Raton KOA

Raton, New Mexico

Date of Stay:

This is a KOA Journey park, meaning most of the campers are overnighters. We have stayed here many times, as it's the halfway point between Denver and Amarillo. It's not fancy, but it's fine. Everything works.

This is a very nice park, and the only reason it doesn't get a 10 is because the spaces are a little tight. There's a 3/4 mile walking trail, and the owners have installed sculptures by a local artist all around. There's also a "museum" of old farm equipment. The laundry was clean and takes credit cards only. I also liked that we got a 7th night free when we stayed a week.

iI want give this campground if it wasn't for highway noise it is bad people are great very clean sites are level some one said the sites were close that is not so very nice site lots of room we have been on the road many years.

It's virtually brand new and really nice. It lacks a little personality due to being so new. No trees, no grass. Every site is paved and level, easy in, easy out. The casino is walking distance or a shuttle bus away. Restrooms were fabulous. So when this place gets a little age on it (trees, grass) it will be beyond compare.

The park is very nice, with nice people and the sites are wide. I liked the store. The only reason I don't give it a 10 is the park needs some work The electric boxes need to be painted and also straightened up. The cabins (so I call them) have alaskan roof material which is a tarp. Some of the sites need leveling. For the cable tv they ran wire all over the top of the ground. I would stay there again.

We had a very nice site, no sewer or water connection but the electric was 50 amp. The only problem I had with this campground was there was all the trash and litter left behind at the campsites. We have hosted for COE parks, and our job was to clean up campsites. When we reported the mess, the host here said, "It's the campers' responsibility to do that."

This is a KOA, I don't think it was up to KOA standards. The site was in the sun, and boy was it hot; there were no picnic table at any of the pull through sites. They have quite a few older sites in a grassy area, but I'm not sure a big RV or motor home could get in or out of there. There are picnic tables in that section, but. they need a lot of work. The trash dumpster was way, way up front, quite a walk on a very hot day. For overnight stays only, it's all right.

I would give this place a 10 except for the highway noise from I-40. It's very clean and nice. Their "deluxe" sites are concrete pads and level. Little hard to get a satellite TV signal due to trees, but they do have extensive cable. Very good water pressure and cell phone signal. We would definitely come here again.

This was the only park with sites available on a holiday weekend. It is Very Tight in here. The manager helped us back into our site after we had difficulty; it took a good 20 minutes to back in. WiFi was not very good. Water pressure was not very good. The manager was very nice, and the place is clean. I would rate it higher if it were easier to get around.

So relieved to get here after bad weather. People were very nice, and we had an easy to get into pull-through site with no leveling needed. It's a large campground, so there was room to walk our dogs. Site are well spaced with good room between rigs. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

I'm afraid we can't give this place a good rating. For an over night stop, it is WAY off the highway, a good 10-15 minutes. Water pressure was awful. My Mr. Coffee drips faster. They advertize wi-fi but we could not get a signal at all. Also there is no cell service on Verizon. We paid for 50-amp but after a scary argument with another RV'er, we switched to 30 and let him have the 50. We were thrilled to leave.

The restrooms are sparkling clean, and they made upgrades so the showers have plenty of room. On a hot day, the pool is wonderful. The pull-through sites will fit big rigs. The grounds are lovely and green. Full-timers for 12 years, we think this is one of the nicest campgrounds anywhere.

This is a nice park with a real country feel to it. It's right next to US-75, but the road it's on is a dirt road. The highway is not noisy. They have a lovely pond and the owners have miniature ponies which are friendly and cute. Our only beef is our site was NOT level, we had to really finagle to get our trailer level. Our front end was jacked up just about as far as it could go. Also, there are some tacky permanent trailers there which should be kept up better. But we would come here again, as the good things outweighed the bad.

We stayed here because of favorable reviews, but make no mistake. This place is a DUMP. A very depressing dump. All dirt and gravel, not an ounce of grass or landscaping. A lot of working people live here, and I feel sorry that the owner can't make this place a little nicer. Resort -- HA!

The roads are in bad shape. The Wi-Fi is not good: half the time I couldn't get on and it was slow. I don't see why they advertise Wi-Fi. Some of the sites are soft, so we moved to another site.
