San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA, Petaluma, California

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $83.00
Overall Rating:

If you are looking for a relaxing country experience, DO NOT stay here. This park caters to families with kids and dogs. It is huge, noisy and busy. Kids on bikes, scooters, skateboards, in the arcade and pool. Friday night LOUD dance party in the tent in the middle of the campground heard all over the park until 10pm. Movies outside every night. Overpriced at $83 I guess that is what pays for all these activities that did not appeal to us.

Calling in advance, we asked for a space away from all the activities but when none were available for our stay we asked for an end space thinking it would be fairly quiet. There was heavy foot and vehicle traffic cutting across our dried grass space all day long plus it was located across from 3 cabins where a family of 35 people was having a reunion spent mostly outside our entire stay. Other sites had nice green grass but not the one we were in. Sat morning I dumped our garbage in a bin that was totally overflowing. A real problem if it was not picked up until Monday.

On check-in I asked the clerk how to get to our reverse direction space and was told incorrectly as it involved a tight right turn which would have been impossible in our 34ft motorhome with a toad. Luckily the nice lady at the gate instructed us properly. At these prices customers should be personally escorted to their sites! We had to fully extend our rear jacks to level on the blacktop site. We saw one rig with 2 wheels completely off the ground. Beware, if you arrive early before the "official" check-in time there is an extra $12 fee. The free WiFi never worked for us. We camped at San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA in a Motorhome.

Lake Solano County Park Campground, Winters, California

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park so many times I have lost count. We love it's close proximity to home and quietness during the week. We stay in both the spring and fall as it can get hot in the summer. We have never made a reservation for a weekday stay and have always had lots of spaces from which to choose. This is what I would call a "rustic" park. It is definitely not fancy. The restrooms are old but mostly clean. My husbands uses them but I prefer our rv. There is a free dump station. The peacocks are fun to watch as they strut their stuff. They are noisy during the day but settle in the trees at night. There are also wild turkeys, an occasional coyote howling at night and lots of walking areas. We have kayaked many times in the "lake" although we no longer have kayaks. We camped at Lake Solano County Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Morgan's of Calif Dried Fruits and Nuts, 3984 Canal Lane, Winters. A small family farm where they will take you on a personal tour of their lovely grounds, have a picnic next to their man-made lake of even reserve a beautiful setting for a special event.

Putah Creek Cafe, 1 Main St, Winters. Good food, good service, fun decor. 2 for 1 burgers every Tues. Yum!
