Des Moines West KOA, Adel, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2008 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Office staff was friendly. There are level sites, however, campground appears to be geared toward weekenders from Des Moines, not overnighters. Overall this is an acceptable overnight stop. We camped at Des Moines West KOA in a Motorhome.

Mitchell KOA, Mitchell, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2008 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This place is excellent for an overnight stay. There are level sites, clean showers, and friendly office assistance. The only complaint is the extra charge for a pet. It was only $1.00 but annoying none-the-less and the only reason I didn't rate it a "10". We camped at Mitchell KOA in a Motorhome.

Mount Rushmore KOA, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2008 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This is the closest campground to Mt. Rushmore, and the best park we have ever stayed in. There were more than enough activities to keep the kids busy and happy. The pancake breakfast is great, too. Be sure, however, to request a deluxe site with patios and patio furniture that substitute for the common picnic table usually found in campgrounds. The sites toward the back appear a little more crowded and less maintained. We camped at Mount Rushmore KOA in a Motorhome.

This is an adequate park for an overnight stay on the way to South Dakota. There are level sites; some Interstate 90 noise, however. We camped at Albert Lea / Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

Kennebec KOA, Kennebec, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2008 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

We wouldn't recommend this campground even for just an overnight stay. Our site was not level; there was a tree next to our site that prevented ease of slide out use; the grass needed mowing; and the mosquitoes were so bad, we couldn't even be outside for more than a minute without being eaten alive. Next time we will stay elsewhere. We camped at Kennebec KOA in a Motorhome.
