Grand Texas, New Caney, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

This is our 2nd stay, a one night stop on the way to south Texas for the winter. Easy access from Hwy 59 / I-69. This park is a good value based on the area it is in. Good satellite and over 100 cable tv channels. good Verizon service. Grass has filled in. Very nice dog park. Reservations would be suggested for a one night stop, as the park is almost sold out tonight. We camped at Grand Texas in a Motorhome.

Brecks RV Park, Batesville, Arkansas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Very friendly owners. Very clean park. Nice place for a one night stop or if in Batesville for medical treatment or activities related to Lyon College. Very quite and secure. 40Mbps free wifi and over 100 channels on cable tv. Sites are satellite friendly. Standard pull through was all we needed for a 40' MH towing a Honda. (about 58 feet). I agree with the comments in the prior review. We camped at Brecks RV Park in a Motorhome.

Denton Ferry RV Park & Resort, Cotter, Arkansas

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

For the price, it probably should get a 10. But, to me, a "10" has paved sites, a swimming pool and a dog park. And you don't get that for $28. The owner and staff are fantastic. We were there for me to have surgery at Mountain Home and stayed 6 nights.. When the owner found out, he switched us to a site next to the office and bath houses. While I recovered, they offered to help in any way they could, including getting the TOAD hitched up when we were ready to leave. Our site was level and I did not have to but the jacks down. We met several people there for a Good Sam Chapter rally. Everyone we met was friendly. We had good satellite tv and Verizon service. This would be a very nice place to spend a few days to just relax. It is only 10 miles from the RV Park to Mountain Home. We camped at Denton Ferry RV Park & Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

White Sands Cafe in Cotter is a wonderful little restaurant. Most business is done at breakfast and lunch. They serve breakfast all day and had several $ 7.95 lunch specials. At night things range from the usual fried stuff, under $10, to grilled salmon, $12.95 and walleye, $15.95. The salmon was drizzled in a special sauce prepared by the waitress who was probably the owner and part time cook. There is a Walmart at Flippin a few miles away.

Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground, Yuma, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Easy location to get to. They guide each guest to their site and be sure they get hooked up. Got a problem getting your tv matched to their cable? No problem. They will help you in getting your tv set to scan. My site was perfectly level. No need to put jacks down. Electric was 122 volts prior to turning anything on. This place is a real gem. If you want a pull through where you do not have to unhook, reservations are almost mandatory. Yuma, TN. not really. Just 1 mile North at Exit 108 off I-40. Several places for fuel and food at that exit. Great for a one night stop, but there are things, Civil War related, to see in the immediate area. There is a parking lot and a walking trail between the RV Park and I-40. The staff will help you, even with a shop for minor RV repairs on site. They also offer RV cleaning inside and out. They now do minor work on diesel engines and there is a diesel shop down the road. They also work on Refrigerators, AC units and water heaters. We camped at Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

You are 12 miles from a WalMart Supercenter in Lexington and 48 miles from Shiloh Battlefield National Park. Two gas stations have a separate area for trucks and provide diesel at a lower price than the larger truck-stops. There are a number of local restaurants within 4 mles of the park.

Grand Texas, New Caney, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Great for a one night or several. Paved roads and sites. New park and they were still working to get all the grass in. We make a one night stop in New Caney each year on our way south for the winter and it was nice to find a park at a reasonable price that did not have negative reviews. Our rig is 60' long and fit on the standard pull through. The premium sites look to be about 70-75 feet long. They told us that a new water park was being built across the street. They have a good location with a Pilot and a Valero truck stop about 9/10 mile away. We camped at Grand Texas in a Motorhome.

Pilot truck stop with a Denney's restaurant and a Valero truck stop at the intersection of Hwy 242 and Hwy 59. The Park is about 9/10ths of a mile west on Hwy 242 and on the left.. The initial map we looked at had the park in the wrong location.

Canoe River Campground, Mansfield, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We had a group of 4 rigs in the Pull Through, PT 14- PT23 section. These sites are larger than most of the rest and we had good satellite service. We had no problem with large dogs and the owner told us the person that had the pit bulls (see prior review) was not a permanent or seasonal. The park is large and has a large number of campers. We used the limo to and from the train station and they never failed to pick us up. We would return IF we could get a site in that section. Most of the other sites are too small for a 40' rig and are surrounded by many trees. We had good 50 amp service. We camped at Canoe River Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Great Ice Cream and produce stand 1/2 mile north.

More than 33 flavors. Four service windows. There is a great cafe across from the park downtown that is open for breakfast and lunch with no price gouging of tourists. Example: $ 6.99 for omelet with all sides. Need a tire? Try New England Tire. If you plan to drive and park at the railroad station, check out the location and parking in advance. Senior tickets are $5 to Boston and sold in the train station.

Clayton Park Recreational Area, Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This was stop 19 for us and 3 other rigs that have been on the road touring the New England area since July 6th. The women at the office and the owners were very friendly and helpful. The new swimming pool is unbelievable. It is by far the nicest pool we have seen during this trip. The seasonal sites were well kept. Our site, 22, was next to 2 of the seasonal sites. (I will try to post photos.) We had a large site with grass and was at least 60' long. The laundry was spotless and all the machines looked new. The owners honored their commitment to put the 4 of us together. A few of the other parks we have stopped at did not, even though the reservations were made last year. Clayton Park now accepts credit cards and does not add a surcharge.

The last park we were at charged 5% extra if you used a credit card. We have run into other RV Parks on this trip that only take cash or check. This may be more prevalent in this part of the country than elsewhere. This park is out in the country, thus cell service is week, wifi is slow, and there is no cable TV. The sites we were in had no problem getting satellite service and you can receive several stations off the air. The restrooms were spotless and each site in our area had a picnic table and fire ring. We camped at Clayton Park Recreational Area in a Motorhome.

Check out Villa Maria Restaurante, 1610 Washburn St, Scranton, PA. Great Italian and other food. Lunch under $10. The $8.95 Stromboli at lunch will feed two. Large burgers are only $3.50. Most of the dinner menu is under $15.00.

Tour the Lackawanna County Coal Mine, Scranton, PA.

8 miles from the RV park, at the town of Hamlin are several places to eat, a large grocery, 2 auto parts stores, a McDonald's, a Dollar General and a Tractor Supply.

Camden Hills RV Resort, Rockport, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

As others have stated, this is not a resort. Even with the park 75% full, it was very quiet. Very few children. I count 3 at one seasonal site and never saw any others. The pool looks nice, but I never saw anyone in it. Since the prior reviews, they have upgraded the electricity and have a number of 50 amp sites. The water lines look new and the pressure and flow were good. My site was about 52 feet deep and 40 feet wide with some gravel.

There were 4 in our group and when we made reservations last year we requested sites together. That did not happen.

The laundry appears to have new machines and was very clean. The cable tv does have the network stations in HD and a few other stations. No CNN, HLN, CNBC, The Weather Channel, etc. Satellite service is not available on most or maybe all sites due to the trees. Same for AT&T cell phone service. Verizon was ok. Verizon 4G data card service was only 2.5 Mbps. The free wifi was about .5 Mbps and very slow to get connected to.

As for service:

No one on call after the office closes. One person was on the old electric service at his site and he lost power. All he had was an outlet and no pedestal or circuit. He wandered around and found a garage with an open door. Inside he found a bank of circuit breakers.

Forget after hours check in unless you have reservations and an assigned site number and probably a map. One older couple, with a small Motorhome, knocked on my door after dark to see if there was a host somewhere. It was starting to rain and since I knew where several empty pull through sites were, I got them set up on one.

This park is ok for one night or several, as long as you know what you are getting into. But, if you desire to stay near Rockport and Rockland, there does not appear to be much else to pick from. We camped at Camden Hills RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Hadley's Point Campground, Bar Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We were with a group of 3 others and reserved last year and got one of the few 50 amp sites. (There are only sixteen 50 amp sites.) But, most RV Parks in this area don't have many 50 amp sites. Our site was about 45" deep and wide enough to park the car beside the motorhome. The electricity was excellent and did not drop below 118 volts with all 3 A/C units on and the hot water heater running, when we initially set up. There was good water pressure and water flow.

The owner and the workers were all very friendly. The current owner has had the park for 6 years and made a number of improvements. They have 16 new cabins with heat and air, a small bathroom and a covered porch. The swimming pool is well maintained. The free, Island Express, a bus, runs through the park every 30 minutes. You can go to the National Park visitor center and transfer to other buses or go to downtown Bar Harbor. There was very good Verizon 4G service, 14 Mbps. They also have free WiFi.

CONS: I docked the park due to the lack of sewers at the 50 amp sites, (A2-A17), $12 for "honey wagon" service if needed, the lack of cable tv and the fact that most sites are not satellite friendly. We were gone most of each day, but I do like to be able to view some news and financial channels at breakfast. You can get 2 or 3 stations from Bangor, Maine, 35 air miles away, at some of the sites. Potential, satellite friendly sites would be A1, A28-30 and A25-26, Also A2-9, if the dome was at the very front of the RV.

OVERALL: I would not hesitate to return to this campground and I would recommend it to others. They do have 15, 30 amp sites with sewer and 7 of those are pull thru sites. We camped at Hadley's Point Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Food is expensive at night, as in $14 for a hamburger, if the restaurant you choose offers sandwiches at night. Downtown, you can pay $14 for a burger at lunch.

Our best dining was at The Chart Room on Hwy 3, about 2 miles north of downtown Bar Harbor for Lunch. Meals were available for under $10 and tables were available with a view of the harbor. Their fries were fresh cut and not frozen. Once you cross over to the island, there are no places like McDonald's or Burger King.

Crazy Horse Campground, Littleton, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Was here with a group of 4 rigs. New owner. A lot of work has been done.
Nice pool and playground. Very wide sites. Cable TV with the networks in High Definition. Good, fast, 6.7 Mbps, wi-fi. 1 hour per day free. Small charge for additional hours. In 3 full days, I never got cut off. What some have posted as "seasonal" are actually people that live one to two hours away and they come in with their kids for the weekend. We arrived at noon Sunday and of the 3 semi-permanent by us, only one was in use. The gravel road is only 1/2 mile and they age keeping it graded and it was wider than I expected.
CONS: No Verizon phone service, but good Verizon data card service. Satellite service limited. Best sites for satellite service are; W2-W9 and 83-86. Sites down the hill can be tight for larger rigs. (9-80)
The gravel road is only 1/2 mile and they age keeping it graded and it was wider than I expected.
We would stay here again. If the pictures I will try to post show up, you can see how wide the sites are and what the playground looks like. We camped at Crazy Horse Campground in a Motorhome.

Moose River Campground, St Johnsbury, Vermont

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderful owners. Really a great small park. As others have posted, things can be tight. The big problem is that if you need 50 amp service, be sure to reserve one as they only have 3 or 4 available. The very long pull through sites in the center have no shade, but get satellite service. Verizon 4G service was strong and the free wifi runs about 6.5 Mbps. The back in sites along the creek have a great viewThe park was sold out every night we were there and we saw people pull in without reservations and have to leave. The staff were wonderful. Due to illness we had to leave and they waived the 48 hour cancellation policy. If you get a site near the back, you are a little further from the Interstate. Although some reviewers complained about the noise we had no problem with it. We did leave the fan on one A/C unit running full time, like we always do when near a highway, to create some "white noise". The 70' pull-through sites are nice and easy to get in and out of. We camped at Memphis KOA in a Motorhome.

This was our 5th year. Our rate reflects the 3 month rate. BUT, it includes electricity and cable TV and this year a new cable TV system with cable modems for Internet. The dog run is excellent. The staff will go out of their way to help you. The same for the work campers. This park has just about every activity you could desire. We understand that their will be a change in the activity office next season, which will be good for the younger Winter Texans. We met one person that has been coming to this park for 33 years. That is great, but it is time for management to look into activities for the younger set. We envision returning each winter for a number of years.
