Wilderness Edge Campground, Millinocket, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed three nights in a very large site, no. 10. We liked the fire pit, wooded surroundings and relative quiet. Lots of dogs and children, but other visitors seemed like friendly, happy campers. Manager drove around park regularly. I brought my car plus the truck camper. We camped at Wilderness Edge Campground in a Truck Camper.

We came to explore the new National Monument Loop Road. There isn't much to do at the campground but it is near the town and many hiking or ATV trails.

Papoose Pond Resort & Campground, Waterford, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

Huge old-fashioned campground. Wide range of site selections, many with nice kitchens & bathrooms all your own, complete with shower. Wooded sites seem like a State park rather than private camp and many are far away from roadway. Place is great for kids with resort-like activities, snack shack, and of course the Pond and Pool. The latter was great. Not impressed with the Pond. We camped at Papoose Pond Resort & Campground in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

No dogs on the pond beach or in the nice sites on the water. No fireworks allowed in this Camp. This is why we selected it for Independence Day holiday.

Mount Blue State Park, Weld, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Clearly a Gem! Huge park with multitude of activities for families and campers of all types. Super helpful Park employees who gave us extra info on hiking and maps of the region. Very pretty lakeshore with lifeguard, places to picnic and stretch out on clean, pet-free, grass. Our space was fabulous - very clean, nice table and good fireplace with a grill. Can't wait to return in the Fall when the leaves turn. We camped at Mount Blue State Park in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to take the Scenic Hike in the other section of Mount Blue Park called Center Hill. Bring a bike! Bring your camera because the foliage, even in August, is lovely with ferns, moss, berries, interesting mushrooms, and nurse logs. Every campsite space is different; recommend checking them out before selecting one from the camp map, if possible. We showed up on a Fri morning in August and they had 10 available.

South Arm Campground, Andover, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely setting for an old-fashioned camp. A shame that trailers block gorgeous view of the lake for those across the street. Some sites have their own sandy beach; pretty trees; and good fire rings. We weren't so lucky. Avoid sp. 57. We stayed 1 night, but paid $99.73 for 3. Original Restrooms closest to us were clean but without simple amenities found in forest camps, like a shelf over sinks. Disappointed we couldn't rent a boat; no explanation or offer to contact us when one became available. Water faucet & electric hookup were on opposite ends of sp 57. I was promised a site in A loop, but reservation system and e-mails did not match. We camped at South Arm Campground in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

Rent a boat! Bring your own wood; ours was green and didn't burn well. We also did not fill our water tank because I thought we could hook up to water. We choose electricity and filled our water tank at Mt Blue State Park the next morning.

Cobscook Bay State Park, Dennysville, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Beautifully maintained State Park close to many Downeast Maine sites. Terrific place for children, supervised, to bike and play at the huge playfield, nice new looking playground equipment. Lovely covered picnic tables and cooking devices, plus horseshoe pit. We camped at Cobscook Bay State Park in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

Great walking/hiking opportunities at nearby Quoddy Lighthouse State Park; there are groceries available at a couple of the gas/go stores, including freshly cut meat at one place. Highly recommend bringing a bike as the park is very large with wide roads. Very few campers during our recent July 2017 three night stay.

Schoodic Woods Campground, Winter Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely, large, level spaces. Decent privacy from other campers although we could hear kids at spot behind our. We stayed in Loop A to be away from motor homes. Loop B has both electric and water. Loop A has electric only. Restrooms and entire park are new as of 2015, so kept immaculate. Clean, big outdoor dish sink at restrooms. Wood sold nearby at VERY reasonable cost. Note, showers are available at a commercial facility in Otter Point close to other NPS campgroud. We camped at Schoodic Woods Campground in a Truck Camper.

You can ferry over to rest of Acadia. We didn't try it, but you can bring dogs on the ferry and the buses.
