Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Hobe Sound, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the Pine Grove Campground. I'd recommend sites 33-51 because they are farther away from the main highway, thus avoiding roadway traffic noise at night. The restroom/shower facilities are brand new and well maintained. The park is very big rig friendly. All sites are level and spacious. The only negative is the lack of shade and privacy due to the absence of trees and shrubbery. We used our mountain bikes to ride the equestrian trails inside the park. Great stop over before heading to the Key West (5 hours). Make sure to purchase a SunPass and get on the turnpike before you get to Miami. We camped at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tomoka State Park, Ormond Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

The park is typical "old Florida style", narrow inner roads (not big rig friendly), lots of thick underbrush but well maintained. The drive getting to the park cautions vehicles over 12'-6" high because of the tree canopy on Beach St. I drove down the middle of Beach St. for a portion of the journey to avoid the lowest hanging branches. Great location for visiting Daytona or other beach areas. No ocean beach access, river access only. We camped at Tomoka State Park in a Motorhome.

Spearfish City Campground, Spearfish, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2008 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Great park with a convenient location. Make sure you visit the Historic Fish Hatchery across the street. It's really enjoyable. The only thing keeping it from being a "10" is that some sites limit the ability to back a larger trailer into. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fern Lake Campground, Paducah, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2008 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is your basic gravel lot with full hookups, NO table, fire pit, or shade. It is convenient to I-24 but so close that it does have some road noise. It was OK for a one-night-stand. I'd probably try something different the next time through. We camped at Fern Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fleming Park / Lake Jacomo Campground, Blue Springs, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2008 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This Jackson County park sits on a knoll with a nice breeze only a couple miles from the I-470 & I-70. The campground is quiet and fairly new. The gravel sites have a picnic table, fire ring, and E/W/S. Very convenient to Kansas City and I-70. The lake is beautiful and they have a beach if you have the time and inclination. More shade trees and a lake view would make it a 10. We camped at Fleming Park / Lake Jacomo Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Cottonwoods RV Park, Columbia, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2005 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Staff was not overly friendly. The park was just a smidge better than average, just a few short miles from I-70 ramp. Several good places to eat at the I-70 exchange. We camped at Cottonwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Portland Fairview RV Park, Fairview, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2005 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly staff, clean, attractive, and the hot tub (spa) was hot & refreshing. Great place to use as a jump-off point for US 30 waterfalls tour and downtown Portland. The only negatives: too many sites, a little crowded, and not enough trees for me. We camped at Portland Fairview RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hastings Campground, Hastings, Nebraska

Date of Stay: July, 2005 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Advertised as having a spa (hot tubs). Obviously, they have not had the hot tubs working for years, if ever. This place is 18 miles off I-80 and not worth the drive. I normally don't post, but this one really got my goat. The park was in an open field with no shade, not very attractive or welcoming. Don't waste your time or money. Head further on down the road. We camped at Hastings Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Canyon Camper Village, Tusayan, Arizona

Date of Stay: June, 2005 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Way over priced for what you get. Before I pulled in I expected a really nice place for the price. When I arrived, the place reminded me of a bad "drive-in movie" theater. I would never stay here again. We did find a nice laundramat located behind the Best Western Motel. We camped at Grand Canyon Camper Village in a Fifth Wheel.

Ainsworth State Park, Cascade Locks, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2005 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park. Excellent shade and spacious, well maintained sites. Great jump-off point for the US 30 waterfalls that start less than a mile down the road. There is some distant road and train noise that was somewhat annoying or I would have rated it even higher. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
