There are less than 75 seasonal and weekend sites at Lock 30. The property is beautiful and the restrooms are clean. However, happy campers are driven away because of poor management and higher than normal fees. Owner lives out of state and on-site management has no camping experience. Neither are in touch with what camping is all about. With the exception of 2 or 3 holiday weekends, this campground is empty year round. Any longtime camper knows this is a pretty good indication of it's flaws. Lock 30 comes off as a business investment rather than pleasant place for an enjoyable family camping experience. Owner and staff are extremely impersonal. The office and camp store do not have regular hours and frequently not open at convenient times Conversations with fellow visitors to Lock 30 indicate the same reasons for weekend campers not returning and majority of seasonal campers pulling out to greener pastures. Although children are allowed, they don't appear to be welcome. Beware - websites are deceiving.

We have a travel trailer but tent camped this trip. East Harbor State Park is beautiful with friendly campers and staff. Its close proximity to the ferry going to the Lake Erie Islands is a plus. Some areas for recreational vehicles looked tight, but with so many sites to choose from, there is something for everyone.

This campground is a model for all state parks. Many shower houses are conveniently located throughout the park. The restroom areas are large and clean. Each shower has a private door that locks with a changing area separate from the shower itself. The roadways around the park are paved as well as the site pads. Most sites are larger than normal and many privately nestled in the woods. Camp host, office staff and rangers are friendly and knowledgeable.
