Roan Mountain State Park, Roan Mountain, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park with 2 sections. One, the "Big Rig section is the lower. flat, leve,l a stream running along the edge and very nice. The other loop is up the side of a mountain. No big rigs allowed. Tight turns, small sites and just dark and dank. The lower loop had wifi, but it was "broke" while we were there. No cell service at all. Would return, but were told by some of the locals that reservations were hard to come by and had to be planned a year in advance. We didn't know, just drove up and got the last site for 2 night. Very nice park. Upper loop can get discounts, but not the lower one. We camped at Roan Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Hamby Park COE, Wilkesboro, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park. No cell or wifi. Nice night over, but we would not make it a destination park. When we arrived just after a series of torrential rains all loops were closed but one. For a night over it was just fine. We camped at Fort Hamby Park COE in a Motorhome.

Goose Point Campground COE, Bassett, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

I only rated it as a 9 because we pulled in to our reserved site Sunday about 3 and the rude people next door had their vehicles in our site. When I asked them to move, they huffed and puffed as though we were disturbing them. The following day the locals had left and the park was a place of glory. Site were spacious while some were rather close together. Our goal was to camp in Fairy Stone Park, but after visiting it and this park there is no question why we are glad we chose what we did. Would definitely return, just in June on the weekend. Reservations are a must. Good WiFi from our AT&T hotspot and cell service both with AT&T & Verizon. We camped at Goose Point Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We did find some Fairy Stones at the Hwy 57 Pit stop a mile to the left and the State Park is 2 miles to the right. The 5 mile trek off 57 to the park seems like and eternity.

Natural Tunnel State Park, Duffield, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park with large COE-ish sites and plenty of space between sites. Water & electric but no sewer at the site. Ours had trees and brush between sites on the side but the back butted to another site which was vacant. Lovers Leap loop is where we stayed #17. Great cell and hot spot (ATT) reception. Very clean, new shower house. Lovers Leap is the newer loop and the reservable site specific one. The Tunnel is worth seeing. Would definitely return if in the area. We camped at Natural Tunnel State Park in a Motorhome.

Natural Bridge State Resort Park - Whittleton Campground, Slade, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Couldn't figure out their pricing. Got 10% for senior, but added $6.00 "walk in fee", total was $31.50. Nice, but small campground with very few sites and most were reserved. Nice clean campground with no wifi nor cell service. The Natural Tunnel was quite a walk, but worth it. Would not stay as a destination but nice for a night over. We camped at Natural Bridge State Resort Park - Whittleton Campground in a Motorhome.

Whitten Park COE, Fulton, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

What a beautiful park not far from Tupelo, MS. A typical terrific job by the COE folks. Super friendly attendant/host. We opted for a premium site for the extra $2.00 and it was worth it. Great view of the water, near the swimming beach and not far from the shower house. We were in site #49 of loop 3. Level, clean sites. Shower house was immaculate, one of the best we've seen. Would definitely stay there again. Real quite at the end of Feb, but more than likely very busy in the summer. We camped at Whitten Park COE in a Motorhome.

Service Park Campground COE, Coffeeville, Alabama

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

What a great campground. Great way to start our return trip from Florida. Up to and beyond the typical COE standards. Large sites with enough room between them, and all have a view of the Tombigbee Waterway to watch the barges travel back and forth. Many of the sites along the waterway are pull through. Both Verizon & ATT reception was good. Campground hosts were above and beyond nice. A few weeks after we arrived home, we received a letter from the hosts and a dollar bill, stating that we over paid our fee by one dollar and they are returning it. Nice or what! We camped at Service Park Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Pickensville Campground COE, Pickensville, Alabama

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Park was very clean and the typical great COE park. On the Tom Bigbee Waterway with occasional barge traffic and they are very quiet and not that often, but worth seeing. Part of the park was closed due to off season, but the larger portion was open. Nicely spaced sites with level concrete pads with water & elect at each site. Restrooms were super clean, not the newest, but far from shabby. Being off season the park was pretty much empty. Would deffinetly return. Our price reflects a premium site (on the water, not cross the road) difference was $1.00 with the Geezer pass. We camped at Pickensville Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Big fishing park with a cleaning station and cleaning tables at each site. Boat ramp is available, but did not visit it. Didn't pay any attention if there were any nearby stores as we just made it a night over.

Ragland Bottom COE, Sparta, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Super nice park. Would've given a perfect 10 but three major defects. Dumpsters are few and far between. Restrooms/showers were not convenient and seem to be added like an after thought, but realize this is very hilly country and they did an excellent job of utilizing what ground they have. Biggest down fall is the signage or rather the lack of. One sign telling of upcoming park road, but none at the turn. If I hadn't used Google Street View prior to our trip I would have missed the turn completely. Wife's Verizon & my ATT were both strong enough to work, as well as our att Hot Spot for the laptop. No OTA TV. Excellent waterfront site, however Labor Day weekend is not the perfect time for a quiet, peaceful setting. Boaters were eager to share their music with everyone, if you wanted it or not. Will return at a less busy time. We camped at Ragland Bottom COE in a Motorhome.

Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, Cordele, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed a night over on our way home and was very impressed with the park as a whole. Campground was well laid out with easy in and out for our B+ with quite a few larger rigs already there. Gnats were horrific! Restrooms were well used but very clean. Would definitely stay here again if on our route. Not the best destination site for us. DW's Verizon & my ATT both came in strong and clear. Our ATT hot spot was flawless. We camped at Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

Had diner at Cordelias, part of the Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club. Totally impressed with the service, food & prices. For a place that is as fancy as this the prices were very reasonable for the excellent quality food we received.

Oscar Scherer State Park, Osprey, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Super State Park. Love the "growies" between sites. You don't even know you have neighbors. Some tight turns for large rigs. Interior roads were tight and a narrow bridge crossing a creek. Of the 5 shower houses #2 & 4 were closed for repairs/ updates. Once again the Ranger assigned us a site upon check in and we were very happy with his choice. We tend to go without reservations, never knowing how long we'll be where. Would definitely come back to this park. Decent location, super nice Rangers and terrific sites! We camped at Oscar Scherer State Park in a Motorhome.

Hart Springs Campground, Bell, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We found this to be a very strange set up. We arrived just after a rain on a Wednesday afternoon. Many of the few available sites were all huge puddles. We were assigned a flooded site and were trying to maneuver between a huge puddle and still reach the electric box when the host came over and told us to park any way we wanted, then offered a higher, drier site if we would only stay one night. That made up our mind and started map searching that night. Shower house was well used but clean. Showers were very close quarters and not the best. Beautiful warm spring and nice swimming pool which are both included in the price. Would probably stay there again but only for a night over, not a destination. We camped at Hart Springs Campground in a Motorhome.

LeFleurs Bluff State Park, Jackson, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Our rating is based an average of an overnight stop and a couple of day stay. For an overnight stop it was really good. Very reasonable price, very close to Hwy 55 with easy in and out. For a longer stay I wouldn't recommend it. We arrived just after a heavy rain and everything seemed musty. Lots of trees and no sun made everything seem dark and dank. Our B+ was an easy fit for a sites and there were a lot of larger units everywhere. Quite a few long term'ers with some rather questionable rigs that didn't appear to be road worthy. Fills up on weekends and a reservation would be needed. We will use this again as a stop over if in the area. We camped at LeFleurs Bluff State Park in a Motorhome.

Florala City Park, Florala, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

I gave a satisfactory rating because the park is in transition from state to city and there are some maintenance issues because of it. State has pulled out the laundry facilities and slacked off on maintenance. Lake side sites were $35 while across the road were $28. All sites have water & electric, level and tree lined. Our B was the smallest camper there, about 4 other sites had 5'ers, all other sites were empty. 28 total sites. We had a beautiful lakefront site. Hope this park doesn't fall into disrepair. We camped at Florala City Park in a Motorhome.

Pickwick Dam TVA Campground, Savannah, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

One of the cleanest parks we've seen in a while. $16 with Geezer card. Level sites for our B with plenty of trees, just below the dam on the river. Campground host/manager was super nice and very accommodating. Only spent one night on our way south. Would definitely return. We camped at Pickwick Dam TVA Campground in a Motorhome.
