My family and I have camped here several times this summer and have yet another spot reserved in September. The fees for all state parks increased from 12 to 22 dollars but we feel this campground is well worth it! They are still renovating the walk way from the campground to the river so until it's done you'd have to use the Main Trails to get here. Bike riding, hiking and walking are the main things to do at this campground besides canoeing or tubing. Both are lots of fun! The river is cool and refreshing on a hot Florida day. The campsites themselves are graveled, many equipped with clothes lines, fire pits and a grill. Some of the sites are very short so when you make your reservation be sure to look at the site length before hand. We'll definitely be camping here again!

I didn't actually camp here but just wanted to give an update. The roads leading to the campground are being rebuilt and are expected to open in early April. For info on the park you can call (850) 677-1089. Press 1 for general info and I believe pressing 3 will give you info about the campground. As of right now you can only get to the CG from boat. From what we could see at the "Road Closed" signs there are not many trees at all still standing. Hurricane Ivan really messed up the surrounding Gulf Coast. I'm not sure if they will reopen the Fort. I had to give this CG a rating so I went with 5. I also had to put in a cost, not to sure if that's what it is or not?? I hope this helps. :-)

My family and I have been to this State Park for camping and picnics for many years and we love it! Our last trip was the 1st week of March, 2009. We got to the park before it filled up, thankfully! There are many things for the kids to do here. Trails that run over to Bear Lake,(The partly covered walkways are a treat!) swimming and plenty of room for bike riding. You can't fish at this lake but you can at Bear, just make sure and bring your water bottle with you for the hike over. This is purely a summer time swimming hole. The water is cooler as it's filled by two springs. The camp sites are spacious with gravel lots in the area we were in. The middle of the campground does have a few paved lots. The restrooms are clean but have no locks on the doors. The shower rooms could have been cleaner and the shower heads in proper working order, but they still worked well enough. The best treat of this trip for us was waking up to a beautiful view of Lake Krul and seeing two Bald Eagles fishing from the trees! An amazing experience! We will return again!
