Hillsborough River State Park, Thonotosassa, Florida

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park to stay at if you like wildlife, fishing, hiking, biking, etc. There is a rails to trails biking trail about 3 miles down the main road. There are several miles of hiking rails within the park. We saw alligators, armidillos, a huge owl, many types of birds, deer, and lots of insects. The sites have lots of space and the restrooms were kept clean. There is a gate at the front entrance that closes at sundown, but your receive the code at check in so you can still get in after hours. The rangers we spoke to were extremely friendly. There is a huge pool that is $4 a day if you like to swim. The only wifi is at the camp store next to the pool. Interior campground roads could be tight for larger rv's. We camped at Hillsborough River State Park in a Motorhome.

Lazydays RV Campground, Seffner, Florida

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This is a good central location to many things in the Tampa area. The campground was very clean and the screened pool was a hit with the kids. There is a very large gameroom with pingpong, pool, and other things for the kids to do. The wi-fi was strong on some days we were here, and other days we had to walk up to the rec room to get a good signal.

It is a fairly large campground, but they seemed to place you right next to other taken sites rather than spreading out. The sites were very small and close to each other so there was not a lot of room for kids to play. We didn't find the check in staff to be friendly. We camped at Lazydays RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Lumberton / I-95 KOA, Lumberton, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is very convenient to the highway. Would recommend for a one night stop, but not really a destination campground. It needed some updating, but it looks like the owners are working hard to make it better. The sites were level and the bathrooms were very clean. There were storms in the area so we weren't able to use the pool, but it looked well taken care of and clean. The sites are very open. Hopefully their plans include planting some more trees to privatize the sites a little bit. We camped at Lumberton / I-95 KOA in a Motorhome.

Oak Plantation Campground, Charleston, South Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This was a last minute decision for us to stay. We were headed to Patriot's Point and this campground was right off the main highway. The worst part of the campground was the turn off of the main highway. Once you get past that the campground itself was very clean with great staff. The woman at the front desk was very helpful with finding us information on Patriot's Point and giving us suggestions for parking the rv there. The sites were mostly level and have a decent amount of space between them. Everyone who was staying there seemed very friendly. It was very quiet. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Point South / Yemassee KOA, Yemassee, South Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

This was probably one of the best campgrounds we have every stayed at. It was on the smaller side and the sites were close together, but the staff and activities make it worth a stop. We attended the wine tasting and had a great time meeting other campers and talking with the staff. It was a great deal and introduced us to some local wines that we probably wouldn't have chosen had we not gone to the wine tasting. The staff was so friendly, we could have spent all night talking with them. Our kids enjoyed the fact that they could order pizza in the camp store and have it delivered right to the site. Everything in the campground was very well cared for and kept clean. The bathrooms were one of the cleanest we came across in the three weeks of our travels. I would highly recommend staying here for a one night stop. We camped at Point South / Yemassee KOA in a Motorhome.

Camp Nelson RV Park, Lancaster, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We were here over the Fourth of July weekend so we tried to take that into consideration, but there were some things we couldn't overlook. First of all, the staff was wonderful and couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. They stopped by our site several times. Unfortunately the actual campground itself was in need of some desperate repairs. Across from our site was an old shower house (?) with a port-a-potty in front. The shower house was inoperable so the port-a-potty was the only bathroom for the 30+ people on our end of the camp site. In order to use a sink you had to walk all the way to the entrance. Our first night we were awoken at 11:00 by a chainsaw one of the other campers was using to cut their firewood and our next door neighbors were setting off mortar fireworks that were raining down on our RV. There were cars parked EVERYWHERE and the tent site below us kept driving their truck through our site and parking it next to our chairs. The second night wasn't quite as eventful. The woman next door was walking around without her pants on and they also had visitors so there were at least a dozen people crammed on one site. If you need a place to stay near Nicholasville then this is pretty much the only option, but I would try to stay somewhere else if possible. We camped at Camp Nelson RV Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Boonesborough State Park, Richmond, Kentucky

Date of Stay: June, 2014 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great family friendly campground. There was so much to do within walking distance. Lots of activities run by the campground (clogging was our favorite), a pool, Fort Boonesborough, a beach along the river, and geocaching. Even though every site was taken when we were there it was very quiet and well controlled. Most of the staff were very friendly, especially the ones working in the store. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Fort Boonesborough State Park in a Motorhome.

Huron River Valley Resort, Huron, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2014 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We were in town for a lacrosse tournament and this was minutes from the fields and Cedar Point. There is a small store and a clean laundry room at the entrance. When you first drive in there are many permanent sites but most are well maintained and everyone we met was very friendly. The sites are level and have more room than many campgrounds we've been to. Although we didn't use the actual restrooms the showers are separate and could definitely use some updating. There is a nice playground for kids, kayaks and canoes to rent, and activities run by the campground. We would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Huron River Valley Resort in a Motorhome.

West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA, Gretna, Nebraska

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

The only fault that we had with this campground was that it was dated. The ceramic on the pool was breaking off into the pool and the mini-golf course needed a little TLC, but that didn't inhibit our enjoyment. We had a back-in site that was pretty sizable . The pull-through sites were closer together, but we had lots of grass behind our RV. The sites all looked level and the staff were great! We had pizza and wings delivered to our site from the office and both were very good. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA in a Motorhome.

Mercer / Grove City KOA, Mercer, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: May, 2009 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Overall the campground is a nice place to stay if you are passing through or looking to shop at the Grove City Outlets. The sites are very close together and some of the larger fifth wheels and motorhomes were slide out to slide out. Almost everyone camps with animals here, but they seem to clean up after themselves and the dogs/cats were never a problem. There were no campground activities planned for the weekend. My only problem with the campground was the owner. As advertised in their brochure we were given upon checking in there was supposed to be a free breakfast for mothers on Mother's Day. Being that we were a group of moms we decided to try out the breakfast only to be charged $5.00 each. When I inquired about the "free" breakfast for moms he stated that he decided not to do that because they hadn't collected enough donations for the Kamp and Kare weekend. Not that I mind donating to a good cause, but they should not advertise a free breakfast all weekend and then decide the morning of to change their plans without letting campers know. I also tried to purchase a few things in the store and was left standing for 5 minutes while 4 people (including the owner) sat and talked about vacation plans. I would recommend this place as a one night stopover, but not necessarily a destination point. We camped at Mercer / Grove City KOA in a Motorhome.
