Country Club RV Resort, Monahans, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2005 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

A little way through town, but next to a golf course and very clean and quiet (though stray golf balls may be a hazard). Peaceful neighbors, many working folks. Nice long sites and easy-to-maneuver gravel roads. A great choice for golfers and those passing through or just wanting a quiet park. We camped at Country Club RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Abilene RV Park, Abilene, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2005 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty scary-looking park: large dogs running loose (neighbors?); shabby trailers of permanent residents; open holes in road for plumbing repairs; overflowing dumpster; rutted roads (thank goodness it was dry!); just dirt, no grass. The trees were just obstacles, not shade; and although the ad said 65' big rig sites, our 62' hung over at both ends. Good point: just off I-20 (but bad if you are a light sleeper!). If ya gotta sleep, stop here. Otherwise, keep going. We camped at Abilene RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

IB Magee Beach Park, Port Aransas, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2005 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park for beach lovers - just 100 yards (over the dunes) to the Gulf. Room for larger rigs, though the pull-throughs were still in development when we were there. Very helpful park staff and plenty of quiet. Road VERY rough coming in, but only 1/2 mile to downtown. Fun to watch the giant barges head down the channel to sea. Great bird-watching - even had a heron nesting near our site. Lots of fun local seafood restaurants, some on the beach. Sites not too close together. A beautiful, though windy place in winter. We hope to go back many times. We camped at IB Magee Beach Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Braunig Lake RV Resort, Elmendorf, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2005 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

The camp "lake" is just a fishing pond; Braunig Lake is a few miles down the road and they charge a fee. There is a flea market next door so plenty of weekend traffic. Staff person was unpleasantly bossy and despite rules we found numerous dog droppings at our site. Otherwise, grounds and buildings well maintained. We missed the ice cream social. For the price (even after discounts), one could probably do better. 5th wheel, February 2005 We camped at Braunig Lake RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
