Green Valley State Park, Creston, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park. We had a pull thru site with full hook ups. I marked no big rig access due to the fact that these sites are not level. I chose this site because the DNR web site stated it was level. We have a 40' MH and couldn't get completely level. The sewer connection was too far forward. We couldn't reach it without using an extra length of hose. And it was up hill which made it near impossible to use. We had to fish the hose under the motorhome and use the neighbors dump down hill from us. Which brings up another point. The sites are rather close to each other. Our picnic table was next to the neighbor's dump. ICK! We camped at Green Valley State Park in a Motorhome.

Palisades-Kepler State Park, Mount Vernon, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2011 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park! We used a back in site that supposedly had a "slight" slope. We never did get quite level. The pull through sites were worse. There was a large motorhome on one that the front wheels were off the ground and looked like they could have used a ladder to enter the door. But other than the sites not being level, it was a pleasant stay and family oriented. We camped at Palisades-Kepler State Park in a Motorhome.

Elk Rock State Park, Knoxville, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2011 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here in a 40' rig. We had a pull through site (reservation web site said it was a back-in) and had plenty of room to park our toad. The site was fairly level. It was a gravel pad. Had a nice fire pit with a cooking grate. There is a water spigot in the center of the circle, but you would need 200' of hose to reach it. The main water fill is at the dump station when you first enter the park. The pull through section had no toilets. Even the tent section didn't have a porta-potty or a pit toilet. So if you're not self contained I would highly recommend bringing a potty with you. It is quite a jaunt when you have to go. There was one shower house that serviced four loops of the campground. The equestrian portion had a nice shower house and playground. The park seems to cater more to the equestrian camp. Also there were no security lights in the loops. It was very dark at night. The only light for the four non-equestrian loops was at the shower house out on the main road. Overall, it was a pretty and clean park with quite a few deer roaming around. We camped at Elk Rock State Park in a Motorhome.

George Wyth Memorial State Park, Waterloo, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2009 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Had 50amp electric. There were a couple of big rigs here, but the trees need to be trimmed. Never saw the ranger. Sites were pretty good. Gravel pad and nice and long. We could park our towed vehicle in front with enough space for a visitor to park. You can hear the hum of the highway but it isn't too bothersome. Nice bike and walking trail (paved and shaded). We didn't have a reservation but thanks to the reservation system we found a site to use before the holiday weekend. We had planned to stay at another campground but with the upcoming holiday all the sites were being held with unoccupied campers. We will stay here again. We camped at George Wyth Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

Rock Creek State Park, Kellogg, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2009 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We had a reserved site (#28) with 50amp service. The pad was short: didn't have room for our towed vehicle in front of the motorhome, but parking slightly on the grass wasn't a problem. Rangers were scarce Monday through Wednesday. Previous campers had tossed out our reserved tag and the ranger didn't even look at the post until Wednesday. We left on Thursday. It would be nice if the garbage truck didn't have to make his rounds at 5:30am on Monday morning also. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would come back again. We camped at Rock Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Rock Creek Marina & Campground, Camanche, Iowa

Date of Stay: May, 2009 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We had a pretty decent stay. My only complaint was the cold water in the shower. Taking a shower on a 45* morning and only having lukewarm water was not pleasant. We camped at Rock Creek Marina & Campground in a Motorhome.
