Stone Mountain State Park, Roaring Gap, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We love this park. North Carolina really maintains their state parks well and this one is no exception. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful at check-in and the site was level and clean. There are kids everywhere, so if that's not your scene then this park isn't for you. Our kids rode their bikes constantly and met a lot of other children to play with. All the other campers were nice and seemed to be having a good time also. We will definitely return again and again (but definitely with reservations made way ahead of time). We camped at Stone Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain Stream RV Park, Marion, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice RV park. It was extremely clean and well maintained. I did not try the bathrooms but my husband said they were clean. The only beef I have about this place is that there's not much for kids. They don't even have a playground and then they want them to strictly adhere to park rules. I don't think I would say children are welcomed, just allowed. Other than that it was very nice and we enjoyed our time there. We camped at Mountain Stream RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

River Camp USA, Piney Creek, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

I'm really not sure what to say about this campground except it was not my favorite. The whole area is rather uneven and needs to be leveled out from time to time. I thought the whole thing looked like a junkyard more than a camping area. They will not let anyone who has young children camp along the river "for safety reasons." The so-called playground is one swing and a slide and I believe it was set on the tailline field for the septic tanks, at least that's what my nose thought. I would not even go near the bathrooms--the outside didn't look appealing so I didn't try the inside. The owners were different--the husband was okay but the wife was feared. Overall it's in a beautiful place along the New River and if they would just clean up and fix up it would be great. Unfortunately that is not happening. We camped at River Camp USA in a Fifth Wheel.
