Circle The Wagons RV Park , La Veta, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed a week, and had one of the "river" sites. However, the river by dry! Big time drought in the area! However, we still enjoyed the stay. I'd echo what a previous posted said about only 3 broadcast television stations available.... However, they have a ton of loaner DVDs in the came room available for free. We enjoyed this park very much. The owners are doing a great job. I am sure this is the best park in town. Mule deer roam freely thru the park... and all over town for that matter. It's a bit dusty, but I attribute that to the drought. We camped at Circle The Wagons RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out Cuchara, Cuchara Pass, and Cordova Pass! Also, the downtown market has reasonable prices considering where they are. Lastly, the corner diner at the south end of town (down the main drag) has the best BLT sandwich, and some of the best onion rings I'v had anywhere. We also visited Huerfano Community Bible Church in Walsenberg, I highly recommend it as well! We really liked LaVeta, hope you do too!

Craig KOA, Craig, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

New ownership, seem to be really nice folks. Our site was near the highway, but noise was not a problem. Fairly level, and everything worked fine. Had to have a cable box from the office to get the TV to work, but that is supposed to be remedied soon. Looks like there were some other upgrades underway, but we enjoyed it as-is. Wifi and At&T cell phone service both worked well. We would stay here again. We camped at Craig KOA in a Travel Trailer.

4J+1+1 RV Park & Campground, Ouray, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Folks: It aint about the campground....Ouray is the most scenic town we have visited in Colorado. The mountains rise up at the edge of town....amazing. This campground is right in the middle of town well within walking distance. Check in was quick and easy. If you have a big rig: navigation can be a bit tight and most of the sites are narrow so, if you are sitting under your awning, you will have a ring-side seat when your neighbor dumps his tanks. The wifi is very slow and, although we had 4 bars of 4G signal on AT&T, it was very, very slow as well. The restrooms and laundry room were as clean as I have ever seen. The sound of the river is mesmerizing. We would definitely stay here again. There was a burn-ban while we were there...no outdoor campfires or charcoal grills. Propane grills were allowed and available at the hardware store downtown (well within walking distance). We camped at 4J+1+1 RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

There is a stunning waterfall just east of Main Street downtown. You can see it from the campground. We did a jeep tour with "Switzerland of America" up to Imogene Pass. Amazing view and quite a ride! I'd recommend it! We also drove down Hwy 550 to Silverton. Saying that this is a breathtaking ride is quite the understatement. If you are scared of heights - wear Depends ;-)

Springfield / Route 66 KOA, Springfield, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park. Check in was literally less than two minutes. Our site was easy to find and easy to get into.... although they are somewhat close together. The office has a good assortment of supplies and parts... and they will deliver firewood, propane, or whatever you need to your site. Because of the closeness of the sites... our neighbors sewer connection was only a few feet away from our patio and table... Which can make for a smelly breakfast if your neighbor is trying to get dumped and leave first thing in the morning. However, I would definitely recommend this park, and would stay here again. We camped at Springfield / Route 66 KOA in a Travel Trailer.

RV Ranch of Keene, Keene, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

First of all, this is a trailer park, not a campground. If I had extended my awning it may have touched the camper next to me. Which means when I walked out of my door I had to take care not to trip over their sewer hose. The layout is terrible. Parts of the campground (including the office) are not accessible from other parts, without getting out on the road and looping around. Secondly, although they advertise WiFi, and give you a piece of paper with a network name and password... the password doesn't work. I asked my neighbor who had been there a few months, and he told me he had never gotten it to work. Thankfully that AT&T signal was sufficient for a hotspot connection. Lastly, I will say the lady at the desk was nice, and did allow us to stay an hour past the normal noon checkout so we could go to church. They do have cable television hookup, which worked well. I would also have to say that given the quantity, quality, and density of the trailers crammed into this place, it is fairly well maintained and clean. Although I would not rule it out, we would seek other options if we found ourselves in this vicinity in need of a place to overnight. We camped at RV Ranch of Keene in a Travel Trailer.

Ray Roberts State Park Isle du Bois Unit, Pilot Point, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice campground, deer everywhere. Very nice boat ramp facilities, and the sites have picnic tables and nice fire pits. Our site was a a bit shallow, but double-width.. allowing me to park my truck beside my camper. There is also overflow parking nearby. There are numerous paved hike and bike trails. We had fairly strong AT&T cell service at our site. For a Texas State Park, I thought the sites were a bit close together in some cases than I'd like. However, this was our second stay here, and we'll be back. We camped at Ray Roberts State Park Isle du Bois Unit in a Travel Trailer.

Stillwell Store and RV Park, Alpine, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We spent Christmas Eve here..... with 1 other camper. This is no-frills at it's best! The road that the store is on dead-ends into an abandoned border bridge about 20 miles further down. You can sit and watch for hours and most of the time you'll never see another vehicle. The stars at night are big and bright! (there's a song in there somewhere). Across the street there are 7000 acres that are part of the Stillwell ranch that you can explore. The wifi was OK, but there is no cell phone or TV signal at all. We used this as a base for several Big Bend excursions. The store has gas and necessities (no perishables). We are already contemplating going back next Christmas. We camped at Stillwell Store and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Visit the Hallie Stillwell museum... just pick up the key at the store and do the self-guided tour. They tell me that at certain times of the year large groups of geology students descend on the park as well as the ranch across the street. When we were there we pretty much had the place to ourselves.

Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second trip to DMSP. It is as good as I remember it! Great hiking trails, lots of wildlife, beautiful scenery! Great place to get "off the grid" and away from it all. No WiFi, no cell phone reception.. (unless you drive to the top of Skyview, which we did a couple times to check email) Lots of stars at night! We had a site with cable TV on our first trip here, but not this time... didn't seem to miss it.... We were in a water/electric site... but the dump station was convenient as we drove out... Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort, Lajitas, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We didn't get a site with cable TV. However, we watched a lot of football in the clubhouse... which was adjacent to our site. This is a nice park... no other parks in the area are in the same class... We had dinner across the street at the resort, and simply charged it to our RV site as you would a hotel room. The staff was friendly and helpful. Now for the not-so-good... AT&T signal in the area is 3G and spotty.. very difficult to maintain a connection and streaming is poor. Same with the park WiFi. That being said.... I would definitely stay here again, and may book next December again.... We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Caverns of Sonora RV Park, Sonora, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived around 8 PM. The resident came out to give us directions to the pull-through sites. The campground was about 75 percent full. We took the side on the end and with a little maneuvering were able to get hooked up and set up for the night. We saw about a dozen deer driving in and in the morning there were at least that many behind the gift shop at the caverns. There were also for peacocks along the entryway to the gift shop that were very beautiful. The sites were paved and fairly level and we had no problems with the water or power. I would rate this park higher... But the actual campsites are just a paved parking lot and fairly cramped, no picnic table or other amenities. There is also zero cell phone service via AT&T, and the park has no Wi-Fi. That being said I would definitely recommend this park and the caverns as a site worth seeing if you are in the area! We camped at Caverns of Sonora RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Somerville State Park Birch Creek Unit, Somerville, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Two of the three camping areas are closed due to damage from the recent hurricane. However, our site was great! We had enough room for our trailer and tow vehicle, and my son was able to park his truck and boat beside us. The natural trees and bushes provided a sense of seclusion. The trails were great, and deer and wildlife was abundant. We even spotted a bald eagle while fishing on the lake. We camped at Lake Somerville State Park Birch Creek Unit in a Travel Trailer.

There is a bait / convenience store just outside the entrance. Their firewood price was better than any other place we found. There was also a 10-point buck lurking in the lot adjacent to the store when we went there one evening.

Roadrunner RV Resort, Red River, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We were in a "deluxe" site that backed up to the river. The sites are tight, and many of them are nothing more than a parking lot. That being said, it is a well-maintained facility. We stopped by the front desk and had firewood delivered to our site, which was a much better value than what they offered at the grocery store downtown. The Wi-Fi worked well, and we were able to pick up a few broadcast TV stations with our antenna. We did not try to use the cable TV although it was available. This is definitely by far the best RV park in Red River. Our site was level and we had no problems with the power or any other aspect of the site. There was a nice fire pit at each site and picnic table . We camped at Roadrunner RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The city of red river is fairly small, with only 400 permanent residence. There are no red lights and only two gas stations. The one grocery store was always a bit crowded and difficult to park . However there were a lot of things to do including trout fishing, jeep tours, hiking, and offroad activities. We had dinner at Texas read our last evening and had a great steak. There are lots of shops downtown and plenty to do.

Elephant Rock Campground, Carson National Forest, Red River, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Our reservation was done online several months in advance. When we arrive our site was tagged with our name, and they can't post showed up within five minutes to make sure that we were the correct guests. Our site ran downhill a bit so A little extra effort was required to chock and level the trailer. The picnic table and fire ring was located on the backside of the site, but this provided a nice view from our living room. You could hear the occasional vehicle passing by on the highway below, but this was not a problem for us at all. There are a couple of water spigots in the park but you are not allowed to hook up a hose. So fill up with water before you arrive, or be prepared to ferry water by hand. I would also add that there is no place in red river to stop and fill up your trailer with water. Cellular service at the site was off and on. All this being said: We loved the place and definitely plan on coming back and staying longer. The scenery is beautiful and the sites are spaced to provide a good level of solitude and privacy. We camped at Elephant Rock Campground, Carson National Forest in a Travel Trailer.
