Double D RV Park, Texola, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for one night as we were traveling through the area. We were very surprised at how much better this campground was over the typical "one night pass through." A nice, large parking lot is located just off I-40. We were not bothered by interstate noise even sleeping with windows open! Check in is at the gas station. The sites are grass/gravel and are somewhat close if the place is full. We didn't have anyone on either side of us in site 14. Some people there seem to be long-term but not many. The bathhouse is located on the side of the restaurant and were shared with the restaurant. Laundry was also available. One washer worked easily but the broken lid of the other took some work to get the washer to work. Only one dryer was working but I had the laundry to myself as was able to get all our clothes cleaned and dried. We did not experience any problems with noise or dogs here. The restaurant was a nice change from our camper food! We camped at Double D RV Park in a Motorhome.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Canyon, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here for three nights in the Hackberry section. This section is before any of the creek/river crossings. Bridge construction closed one end of the loop. The sites 1-9 had a nicer view, especially 7-9. Those sites also had fewer trees and seemed to have more space. Site 19 had just enough space for us to almost open our awning fully. The picnic table is located in the back. The bathhouses were well maintained except for one broken light on the women's side. I was told by the volunteer that the light was broken. Therefore, the bathhouse was pretty dark inside at night. The trails are great hiking. The store seemed to be well stocked. Meals were also available there. Internet is available at the park office but Verizon phones required a drive out of the park and down the road a few miles. We were able to get radio and satellite TV in our campsite. The park is used by many locals for hiking, running, and cycling. The park is very well run. There was always a ranger, volunteer, or host available. We camped at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in a Motorhome.

Abilene State Park, Tuscola, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here for one night while traveling north through Texas. We chose to stay in the wagon circle area (group camping)because of the better rates. The road circles and you back yourself in at an electric/water hookup. A large, shaded green space is in the center. Several picnic tables and fire rings are also in the green area. There is a bathroom and group shelter in the middle. The bathroom in this section doesn't include a shower but a short trail walk will take you to a bathhouse with shower in another camping area. The park was clean and the office staff were friendly. Other than a few well maintained hiking trails, there was not much to do with the lakes dried and the pool closed. We did visit Buffalo Gap Historic Village. It was a lot of fun and they are dog friendly! We camped at Abilene State Park in a Motorhome.

Potters Creek Park COE, Canyon Lake, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was very level. All sites seemed to be paved. Water and electricity was available but sewage was not available at the campsite. A dump station is located near the exit. The bathrooms were very clean with very large shower rooms. We did encounter one person at the gate who was fairly rude but every other person working there was wonderful. The lake is low so our lakefront #92 had a view of the lake but a nice walk to reach it! The sites along the lake seemed to be long enough for any size RV. We stayed over a weekend so there was some noise from others but nothing too loud or too late. Overall, I was very happy with our stay here. We camped at Potters Creek Park COE in a Motorhome.

Quiet Oaks RV Park, Kinder, Louisiana

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

The office wasn't open when we arrived but a quick phone call and someone arrived. We had a grass site that was level. The mosquitoes were bad in the evening but we did hear the fogger driving around about 11:00 pm. Since we were only one night I don't know if the mosquitoes were better after they fogged. It seemed that most of the people staying long-term were around the perimeter and the short-term were in the middle section. This gave more of a camping feel to the park. The bathrooms seemed clean though we didn't use them. The park is a good distance off of I-10. There were some smaller stores within a few miles for basic items. Our $16 rate was for Passport America. We camped at Quiet Oaks RV Park in a Motorhome.

Hilltop RV Park, Robertsdale, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We only stayed one night as we passed through the area. We were happy that they were able to fill our LP. Many of the sites are taken by those who seem to live there year-round. They did have one row behind the office that seemed to be those staying short-term. The sites are grass and are fairly level. There are some smaller stores close by and it is very easy access to I-10. The bathhouse was okay but we didn't use since we had our own in motorhome. The sheet we received from them had many, many rules (no mats...). We brought our large dog. They did let us stay but seemed not too thrilled with her size. Our price of $20 was with Passport America. I cannot imagine paying their full amount of $40 for one night. We camped at Hilltop RV Park in a Motorhome.
