Chippokes Plantation State Park, Surry, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed three nights here as a base while touring Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. Nice secluded location, but a short trip across the ferry to Williamsburg. Restrooms and shower facilities were about what you would expect at a state park, nothing fancy but not bad. The Olympic size pool was great, and we enjoyed touring the hiking trails on the grounds. Camping sites were in a wooded area, with a reasonable amount of privacy. We camped at Chippokes Plantation State Park in a Tent.

Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground, Swannanoa, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Enjoyed a great four nights here as a base for our vacation in the Asheville area. Very short drive to Asheville attractions, and a reasonable trip to Chimney Rock, Mount Mitchell and Pisgah Forest. Tent sites were nicely spaced and and varying elevations, providing plenty of privacy. Showers and bathrooms were immaculate. We were most impressed. After a drenching downpour, the laundry facilities were most appreciated. Very helpful hosts, and great location just off of 1-40. We camped at Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground in a Tent.

Carolina Beach State Park, Carolina Beach, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2009 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campground with campsites in a wooded area which would be much appreciated during the hot summer. Acceptable shower facilities. Great proximity to Carolina Beach/Kure Beach attractions and not very far south of Wilmington. We especially liked the Fort Fisher SRA and NC Aquarium. We camped at Carolina Beach State Park in a Tent.
