Shell Campground, Shell, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Down town Shell. Handy for exploring the Big Horns. Nice, friendly, mom and pop campground. Had been closed two years. New owners trying hard to get it up and running. Mostly gravel sites, close to adjacent campers, but a friendly hand shake and hello, and your neighbors are like friends. Laundry and restroom/showers are small but very clean. Nice bar and small cafe across the highway. We felt like we were at home. We camped at Shell Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Billings KOA, Billings, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2011 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

We stay here at least twice a year, beats a motel room fee. Nice peaceful park and very over priced since you are packed in. Avoid Sturgis weekends, rude bikers coming and going at all hours. They pack the tent areas and rev the bikes, no matter what time it is. We learned the hard way and showed up with out reservations opening weekend of Sturgis. We got stuck in the over flow grass areas near the tent areas. Pretty good security even though teenagers wandered the park all night long pilfering the bikers beer. We camped at Billings KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Kearny State Recreation Area, Kearney, Nebraska

Date of Stay: September, 2010 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed three nights for a family reunion. Grassy sites, none of the sites used by our party were level. Trees and narrow road made it difficult to back in a trailer of any length. Grass had been recently mowed/swathed, large piles of dead grass lay on top of live grass covering your shoes on every trip to the one restroom. Restrooms were dirty, and you usually had to wait in line to use the restroom or shower. Seventy five cents for three minutes in the shower, no hot water. Only water available was old fashioned pumps. Hydrant was at entrance to park. Plenty of shade. I don't plan on staying here again. We camped at Fort Kearny State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site, Hyattville, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2010 - $6.00
Overall Rating:

A bargain at $6 (residents), $11 (nonresidents). A nice clean state park. It was full while we were here, atv's mostly. Most were rude, they rode them every where, even to the outhouses, and at all hours. Few campers observed a quiet time with generators, and there was no enforcement either. Campers on either side of us ran generators until 11:00 p.m. And you could hear others further away, as well as a few started up before 7:00 a.m. Not a biggee, as it quieted down within a few hours. Trees need trimmed as there are quite a few over hangs, on the roadway that rub on roofs as you drive in and out. The campground is quite a ways off the beaten path. We camped at Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site in a Fifth Wheel.

Green Creek Inn & RV Park, Cody, Wyoming

Date of Stay: September, 2009 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Very expensive for what you get. They advertise: close to Yellowstone Park. I guess it's closer than New York. Still well over an hour's drive. Noisy and a very windy location. We were not forewarned of sewer work and could not use sewer, had to rely on our own tanks. Still full price. We wanted to stay several nights but one was enough. We opted for a Forest Service campground, 15 miles closer to the park. We camped at Green Creek Inn & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Devils Tower KOA, Devils Tower, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2009 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Great access to Devils Tower. There is a nice pool. The showers and rest rooms are not very clean and the hot water ran out quickly in the showers. You can't beat the morning and evening views. Restaurant had terrible service, but the food was edible. We camped at Devils Tower KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain View RV Park & Campground, Sundance, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Great place: we arrived during a downpour, late at night. Manager said pick a spot and pay in the morning. Couldn't beat that. Had clean bathrooms and showers. We only stayed one night on the way to Rapid City. Even after the rain, the trailer spots were well drained. All gravel with small trees. It will become a regular stop. We camped at Mountain View RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Happy Holiday Resort, Rapid City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2009 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Restrooms were clean, and front desk help was friendly. Otherwise, the park was very crowded, cable TV didn't work on either visit, sites were narrow and hard to access, there was not much room for tow vehicle, and the pool always crowded and unclean. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Wyoming Gardens, Thermopolis, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2009 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Owner/manager was rude and had a careless attitude towards my wife and me. We had planned on staying two nights, but with highway traffic all night and many pedestrians wandering in and out of the campground, we left as soon as the sun came up. Bathroom and showers were dirty and unkempt. It was close to McDonald's is about it. We camped at Wyoming Gardens in a Fifth Wheel.

Very well ran, family operation. Clean, peaceful, and easy to access. Rather expensive, but cheaper than a motel. We stay here 4 or 5 times a summer. Cookout each night has great food and service. Nice clean pool, and near the Yellowstone River: a great place for a little walk. We camped at Billings KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Billings Village RV Park, Billings, Montana

Date of Stay: May, 2009 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Cheaper than KOA, and also closer to shopping and Cabelas. Nice friendly managers and the restrooms and showers were very, very, clean. Biggest draw back: the park is usually over half full of full-time campers for construction workers. Never a problem, but you get a trailer park feeling when staying here. We camped at Billings Village RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
