Date of Stay: March, 2010
I just spent a week here in early March 2010 and had a seawall campsite. The weather was poor (high winds and cool), so I really did not get a chance to enjoy the waterfront (gulf side) but it would have been lovely. The staff was attentive to the area, very friendly and assisted you to your campsite. The wind, tides and waves splash water and sea grass up on the seawall AND onto the RVs, but the staff was quick to clear it off with a tractor. Since it was so windy and cool, I did find a public beach down the road on the ocean side. The sites off the water were much more protected, and if I were to go again, I would opt for those. The laundry was clean but more dryers were out of order than working. Now the reason I will not return: the showers! I think that paying $77 a night should warrant a shower. The setup for these is ridiculous since you have to pull a chain to make the water come out with no control over temperature. I totally understand the need to conserve water, but this makes no sense at all. Since the sites all have sewer connections there is nothing to prevent people from having long hot showers inside their rigs. It really inconveniences those of us who travel in smaller units (mine is a Class B camper van) and I believe I paid enough to have a decent shower! To me it is unacceptable and until they rectify that, I won't return.

Spent two weeks here on a tent site with a Class B camper van. The only issue for the van was that the site was not level, but it was certainly liveable. This is an excellent campground with each site being on the water. When the tide is in, you can simply step off the campsite to the water. The tide does go out a long way and it is very shallow, so tough for swimming. Lots of boaters had their boats just moored offshore: just be careful to get it out far enough or it will be sitting on dry land! The washrooms were excellent, clean and had great privacy for showers. There was plenty of firewood available for a donation with nice fire rings on each site. This was an absolute favorite campground, as I spent over 2 months in the Keys. I would definitely return here! It is extremely difficult to get a site, even if booking 11 months in advance. There was a lot of turnover as people were in and out for a night here and there, taking up cancellations. I don't think there's a bad site in the whole park. Great beachcombing and trails. A jewel of the Keys for sure.
