Haines Hitch-Up RV Park, Haines, Alaska

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice park, frequented by several caravans while we were there. Make reservations early! We stayed nine days, during which we took the fast ferry to and from Skagway for the Yukon/White Pass railroad tour and left Haines the ferry Matanuska through the inside passage to Prince Rupert, British Columbia, on our way back to the States.
The park rules were very strict about even wiping off any part of the motor home. Odd rules; but, not hard to abide by. We camped at Haines Hitch-Up RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We purchased tickets for the fast ferry to and from Skagway and for the Yukon/White Pass railroad tour through the RV park.
A must-see is Chilkat State Park. Roads in the park are rough; but, if you drive to the launch area, you will see a beautiful, very tall, waterfall across the Chilkat Inlet.
There is a cannery tour; but, we didn't go on it. There is also a Hammer Museum in Haines.
We had a very good meal at the Lighthouse Restaurant.

Tok RV Village, Tok, Alaska

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice, well kept park. We stayed here four nights toward the end of our summer in Alaska. Staff was very cordial.
This park could easily be a destination park; but, we used it to wind down some before driving to Haines. We camped at Tok RV Village in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We made a day trip to Chicken, Alaska (so named because the resident miners couldn't spell "Ptarmigan".) Some nice, small shops there, along with an RV park.
Nice, Alaskan-made, shops in Tok. Look for "Made in Alaska" and "Silver Hands" tags/markings, the latter of which are only allowed if they are made by licensed native Alaskans.

Snowed Inn RV Park, Delta Junction, Alaska

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The grounds seemed to not be maintained. Grass was very high. Per the owner, there is only "one 30 amp pole in the park." There are connections on both sides of the pole. That was our first night in Alaska; and, I hoped that this wasn't an example of what was in store for us! We were charged $10 extra to use their water hose to wash the crud from the Alaska Highway off of our towed car. We camped at Snowed Inn RV Park in a Motorhome.

Crooked Creek RV Park, Kasilof, Alaska

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night only because it was late and there was no way to turn around to leave without disconnecting our towed car. I wish we had made the extra effort to get back on the road. The heat generated by their defective outlet caused damage to my plug. Luckily, we carried a spare, and they only cost around $25. Had to use four sewer hoses to reach the sewer connection; and, it was uphill. This requires "running" the hose (lifting it by hand to drain the contents) to make sure there were no surprises when I disconnected. Nasty work. The roads in the park had large potholes, making navigation tenuous. While the campground appeared to be clean enough, it just had an unkempt look that at least made it seem that there wasn't much effort made on the park's appearance. I cannot recommend this campground to anyone. Another camper was in the process of trying to get his money back because the park did not offer the amenities it advertised (wifi, cable, etc.) Every camper we came in contact with was grumbling about the campground. We camped at Crooked Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Eagles Rest RV Park, Valdez, Alaska

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

There was a lot of public road construction around the outside of the park; so, it wouldn't be fair to talk about the lack of ease getting in and out of the park. Signage inside the park was almost non-existent, so finding the exit was an adventure.
We stayed three nights. Good food at Old Town Burgers. Trash containers were very far from our site. We camped at Eagles Rest RV Park in a Motorhome.

Took helicopter tour from Vertical Solutions. We landed on Shoup Glacier and on the shore below Columbia Glacier. THE best experience of our Alaska summer.
The drive into Valdez has some of the most beautiful scenery in the state.

Black Spruce RV Park (Military FamCamp), Anchorage, Alaska

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We greatly enjoyed our stay, even though a bear shredded our sewer hose the first day we were there. Must've left a bad taste in it's mouth, since it didn't come back. Reservations are not allowed; but, we stayed twice, less than a month apart, and had no problems getting a site. We camped at Black Spruce RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Get an installation map as soon as possible and use ITT, on base, for tour tickets (to get military discounts.) Some gates are only open a few hours a day, for rush hour traffic. There was construction outside the N. Muldoon Gate.

Heritage RV Park, Homer, Alaska

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

WiFi and cable were insufficient. The cable connection was very corroded; and, they only made excuses for the WiFi, never fixing either. The campground is more of a gravel parking lot with power posts, but is representative of what is available on the Homer spit. We camped at Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Lots of shops on Homer Spit. Parking is at a premium. Trolley service, while available, didn't seem worth the cost based on the limited hours of service it provided.

Arnold's Campground and RV Park, International Falls, Minnesota

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Fantastic staff! We arrived for our first stay, without reservations, at 9 pm and were welcomed as if we were old friends. Paperwork was finished quickly; and we were in our site, making our connections, within ten minutes, at most. Not as "flashy" as some campgrounds, so we enjoyed our stay even better. Our site rent included a surcharge for 50 amp connection. We camped at Arnold's Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice little public park for an overnight stay. It is very quiet. You register at a box as you drive in (must pay within an hour of arrival) once you pick your site. There is no dump station. We camped at Island Park in a Motorhome.

Hunt's Cedar River Campground, Tipton, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This campground sits right on Interstate Highway 80. The traffic noise is horrendous and we were unable to get any sleep at all. The sewer connections sit about six inches above ground, making it difficult to keep the hose in the sewer. The water connection leaked, whether on or off, no matter what I did. The electric connection (50A) was up to standards. The eight tenths of a mile of dusty dirt washboard road leading to the park left me wishing I had chosen another park. It left a thick coating of dust on the rear of our RV and all over our towed. We camped at Hunt's Cedar River Campground in a Motorhome.

The highway noise kept us from getting any sleep! The "overnighters" are put in rows literally within a stone's throw of the Interstate highway. We might as well have been parked in the median... We stayed here to have work done on our coach at HWH Industries (leveling jacks/slides); but, we will never stay here, again! We camped at Hunt's Cedar River Campground in a Motorhome.

Delta Ridge RV Park, Inc., Forrest City, Arkansas

Date of Stay: September, 2012 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is an excellent park to spend a night at while on the road. There is some highway noise from I-40; but, it was only noticeable to us while we were outside our RV. Getting into the park is a little confusing. Just stop at the Ole Sawmill Cafe, on the right after turning off of AR Hwy 1B (N. Washington St.) onto Confederate Dr, to check in. They will tell you the correct road to get into the park itself. Very friendly and helpful owner and staff. We camped at Delta Ridge RV Park, Inc. in a Fifth Wheel.
