Shreveport / Bossier City KOA (formerly Tall Pines RV Park), Shreveport, Louisiana

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The sites in front are grass/gravel and not completely level. The sites in back have very nice concrete pads and appear to be given only to the very large RVs. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Easy access from the freeway. We would stay here again. We camped at Shreveport / Bossier City KOA (formerly Tall Pines RV Park) in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice park that is far enough from the freeway to provide real peace and quiet. The proprietor was professional and friendly. The sites are very level and easy to get into and out of. The rate we received was an excellent value. Definitely on our list of parks we would return to. We camped at Benchmark RV Park in a Motorhome.

San Antonio KOA, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful, large KOA near downtown San Antonio. The facilities are excellent, roads are wide and sites level. They can accommodate rigs of all sizes. The BBQ pit is closed until spring so we didn't get to try that. There is a bus stop across the street, making a trip to the Riverwalk very easy. We spent two nights here and could easily have stayed longer. Our rate reflects a KOA card discount. We camped at San Antonio KOA in a Motorhome.

Gulf Waters RV Resort, Port Aransas, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful resort and after looking around, it just may be the nicest on the island. Wifi is among the best we've ever seen while traveling. The new boardwalk over the dunes to the beach is great. Roads are wide and the sites are superb. I expect this place will be perfectly fine for most people. We had two issues that drove our rating and both result from management/owners business policies. First, we made reservations back in April of this year. At some point the website was updated with a new price effective October 1st. I expected to receive the price listed when we made the reservation but we were charged the prevailing price. Second, my wife has a medical condition that makes restroom access with very short notice an important feature. Based on an earlier review, we understood that there are only two bathrooms on the property. What we didn’t know is that they are located inside the welcome center which is locked from 10 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. We were told that the building gets locked due to vandalism at some point in the past. The welcome center has a cipher lock so I requested access for my wife as it seemed a reasonable approach to the problem. We were quoted the owners policy of locking the building and that was the way it was left. It did not appear that any effort was made to find a solution. We would not stay here in the future. We camped at Gulf Waters RV Resort in a Motorhome.

81 Palms Senior RV Resort (55+ Park), Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We are here for one night on the way home from Arizona. Very easy to get to. Some road/train noise but not bad at all. We didn't have a reservation and there were plenty of available spaces although there were a fair number of people here. We were put near the shower/laundry/pool building and internet is very good. A second access code costs $2 more. We will stay here if/when Deming is a stopping point again We camped at 81 Palms Senior RV Resort (55+ Park) in a Motorhome.

Mesa Spirit RV Resort (55+ park), Mesa, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This was a short 4 night stop for us. We had chosen this due to positive comments in the past but see much lower ratings recently. We made our reservation online and there was some confusion at check in about whether we had paid but that got resolved quickly. The fact that there are separate systems that don't talk seems archaic to me but I do understand the cost to move to a modern setup. We were not given the walk through gate code and would have checked on that if we were going to be here longer. The site met our needs and was close to three dog parks which are just gravel/dirt but kept nice and clean. There are permanent residents near us who are very friendly and most here are cordial. The Wi-Fi is provided by Dish and works very well. Trash is picked up on Fridays which didn't work for us and disposal was a bit tricky to find. There are a lot of older park models along with plenty of empty RV spots. We expect that is true at most of these places from what we could see while driving around. We plan to return to the area next year for two weeks and will stay here again. We camped at Mesa Spirit RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Big Pine Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is an excellent park with lots of tall pine trees that provide shade and keep it cool inside. The hosts are excellent and really take good care of the facilities and grounds. The only negative we found is those trees also block any satellite dish signal. We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Motorhome.
