Tonopah RV, Tonopah, Nevada

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a combination motel & RV park, and about a third of the RV sites are occupied long term (large propane tanks adjacent). The staff at check-in was friendly and helpful. This park is one large lot made up of sandy dirt, within 150 feet of US95, where big rigs headed north are accelerating, and those headed south are using their gears to decelerate. All of the sites are pull-thru, but there's a problem: The RV lot and sites are flat but not level; my fiver was a little more than 3 inches off level side-to-side, and I had to unhitch to remedy the about 3 inch difference front-to-back. The cable TV reception and selection is mediocre; no PBS. We camped at Tonopah RV in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a desert mining town, with one good supermarket, a casino or two, a regional museum, and a few restaurants. I don't know if it's always as windy as it was during my stay.

Ely KOA, Ely, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2010 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park, off the road, quiet, partially shaded sites, good hookups except no breaker for the electrical service. The park is all gravel, so there's a little dust. Easy in and out, friendly staff that grilled a picnic dinner the night I stayed. I've stayed before and will again. A nicer facility than the other park I stayed in previously. We camped at Ely KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Antelope Valley RV Park, Delta, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2010 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

A pleasant surprise of a park, modern nice layout, big level sites, nice lawns and trees in a dry desert basin. Friendly, helpful staff. Has good utilities except for the sewer hook up in my pull-through site; a bare (unthreaded) plastic pipe protruding 6-inches above the ground, requiring the use of a "donut" (not a very reliable connection). Good enough WiFi, didn't try over-the-air TV reception. Good AT&T cell but no 3G. We camped at Antelope Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

McCloud RV Resort, McCloud, California

Date of Stay: September, 2010 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

If this park wasn't located in a very convenient location, I probably wouldn't stop here. All of the pull-throughs are on grass, and I've yet to be placed in one that was level front-to-back or L-to-R. The pull-throughs are also very close to CA Hwy 89, on a slight grade, so the big rigs rumble past either climbing or decelerating. Noisy. Many of the back-ins are on concrete, but tree limbs were bent against the back window of my 28.5' fiver the times I've been in such a site. The park is otherwise tidy and in a shady setting. We camped at McCloud RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Port Orford RV Village, Port Orford, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2010 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

This is the most laid-back and friendly park I've ever heard of let alone stayed in. All facilities are kept immaculate. Quiet. An older park, so not spacious, but the owners have gone all out to make everything as functional and aesthetically pleasing as possible. The sweet vibe here is contagious. Patrons can use the shop, the freezer, a rock tumbling/meat smoking/scuba tank charging shed (away from the campground, so no noisy). There's a well appointed crafts/exercise/banquet room, a coffee room (free each morning with baked goods) and a covered and heated happy /social hour space, plus a patio. Close to miles of walkable beaches in a small seaside town. I paid by the month, $340 with Escapees discount. We camped at Port Orford RV Village in a Fifth Wheel.

Desert Rose RV Park, Fernley, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2010 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

This park is modern and well laid out with mostly concrete pull-through sites. I've stayed several times and will again. The sites I've been in have all been level in both axis. The utilities are nicely laid out. There's a grass strip on each side of every site, and the trees are well-trimmed. Easy in and easy out, friendly staff, reasonable prices; this is one of the better Passport America parks, and my rating reflects that. We camped at Desert Rose RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Deerwood RV Park, Eugene, Oregon

Date of Stay: April, 2010 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

A newer park with well-designed sites, all interior roads paved; very clean with well-manicured lawns and shrubbery. Easy access to I-5 at Oregon Hwy 58. Traffic noise might be a problem for lighter sleepers in sites at south end of park. Lots of interior lawn to play or relax on. I've stayed here at least 6 times, and it's always a pleasant experience. During my 1st stay my tow vehicle broke down and the owner/managers went out of their way to accommodate my overstay, moving my RV to an equally nice (but un-reserved) site when my loaner couldn't. We camped at Deerwood RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Adelanto RV Park , Adelanto, California

Date of Stay: March, 2010 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

A good quiet park to stop for the night if that's all you're after. Discount dropped price to $30 even. All their pull-throughs are in one large, level and well-graveled area, so easy in and easy out, level enough to not unhitch. 50amp service. Didn't drink their water. OK sewer connection. Excellent AT&T cell and AT&T Air Card 3G service. Management seems neutral, neither friendly nor brusque. Park is clean enough but not luxurious. Didn't look at the pool. No nearby shopping or dining. I've stayed here 3 times previously and will again because it's decent, and the location is right for stopping for the night. We camped at Adelanto RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
