Whippoorwill Motel & Campsites, Lake George, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We were 4 adults and 2 children traveling together which made our campsite more expensive but felt the price was fair considering we were a motorhome towing a small travel trailer. Campsites were grass and pull through but fairly level with easy access. Everything was clean and neat. The pool was excellent, looked brand new. Staff was cordial. Trolley for downtown stopped in front of the office. Even though the facility (motel) was old, it was away from the campsites and was very well maintained. Very quiet and the best thing was the bike trail to town was just behind the campground through the gate. 3 miles by trail to town. We would camp there again. We camped at Whippoorwill Motel & Campsites in a Motorhome.

Branches of Niagara Campground and Resort, Grand Island, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $100.00
Overall Rating:

Perfect campground for easy 10 minute travel to Niagara Falls State Park. Lots of activities for children, but quiet. We drove our motorhome over to the falls, but lots of folks used Uber. We recommend and would come again. We camped at Branches of Niagara Campground and Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you drive or ride Uber to Niagara State Park on the US side (2 exits up on 190), you can easily walk or ride the trolley to the sites. Then, with passports, you can walk across the pedestrian bridge and see the Canadian side of the falls. All very convenient.

Presque Isle Passage, Fairview, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This park was a nice stop fairly close to Presque Isle which we really enjoyed. The campground had permanents in the back and rentable sites as you entered. Staff was nice, park was quiet other than some playing children which we don't fault. We would stay again. We camped at Presque Isle Passage in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Okay but typical state park setting, wooded, sites close, bathrooms older. We only spent one night as we traveled through so did not hike any of the trails. Pool looked nice. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Fries New River Trail RV Park, Fries, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The campground owners make a point to get to know the campers and the friendly atmosphere is what brings us back year after year. We enjoy riding our bikes on the trail and just sitting outside in the shade of the mountains in this quiet campground. Full hookups, neat and appealing landscape and hiking areas leading to hillside swings all add up to a nice place to relax. The mountains are beautiful in full color. We will return. We camped at Fries New River Trail RV Park in a Motorhome.

Bend / Sisters Garden RV Resort, Sisters, Oregon

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

Beautifully landscaped park. Graveled dog walking trail around the entire perimeter of the park was nice. 3 small dogs or 2 large dogs allowed with no addtl charge. Small lake in the center with fountain was pleasant. We saw folks fishing. Three Sisters Mountains visible as a backdrop. Convenient park for us to meet friends in Bend. We would stay again. Willard Bay State Park, Cottonwood Campground, Willard, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Okay for an overnight stay but nothing special. Camp host was very friendly. Lake available for people who wanted to fish but the dumpsters were so smelly near the lake that it wasn't pleasant to be nearby. Did have a short walking trail. We camped at Willard Bay State Park, Cottonwood Campground in a Motorhome.

Pine Bluffs RV Park, Pine Bluffs, Wyoming

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Not a destination campground, but a great value as an overnight. You cannot beat $20 for full hookup with clean bathrooms and laundry. It is old and not visually appealing, but it was quiet and we saw few people. We felt safe. Mostly permanents with what I think were bridge workers. We slept well and felt it was a better deal than Walmart because I did some laundry. Camp host was very very nice. We camped at Pine Bluffs RV Park in a Motorhome.

The huge statue of Virgin Mary behind the campground was an unusual find. You could walk out the back of the campground to see it up close.

Nice, well maintained campground with easy exit just off I80. Perfect for overnight stop. We came in mid afternoon on Saturday without a reservation. Area mowed nicely and lots of folks were fishing. Tips for other Campers:

We preferred the back in site because the pull thrus were on the side of the roads in the park. On those sites, slides extended into the street and could be clipped if people weren't careful. Great walking paths. Only negative $8 day park fee was added to camping charge. We would definitely return.

Overall Rating:

Enjoyed the stay at this little campground. Host was very friendly. We stopped in on Friday afternoon without a reservation and easily found a site. However, later in the day the park filled up. Very quiet. Hiking path. We had an electric only site but dump station was convenient. We would stay again. We camped at Lewis & Clark State Park in a Motorhome.

Watkins Glen / Corning KOA, Watkins Glen, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $79.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights here for location to visit the gorge area and it worked nicely. Easy in and out since we don't tow. Park was quiet even though there were a lot of campers. We were down in the middle section with patios and it was not as crowded there. We would stay again. We camped at Watkins Glen / Corning KOA in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed hiking in Watkins Glen. The guided tour is definitely worth checking the schedule. We also enjoyed the Corning Glass Museum. We only allowed a couple of hours but could have stayed much longer.

Horseshoe Acres Campground, Andover, Vermont

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Very hard campground to review. Neg: The infrastructure was old and out of date so we did not use their facilities. Our campsite was in an open field and heavy rains could have been a major issue. Grounds needed major maintenance and cleanup. Pos: the scenery and nature was beautiful! It was very quiet and other campers were very friendly. The gravel road out back of the campground was an awesome place to walk the dogs along the mountainside for 2-3 miles. We needed a place in that particular location for a couple of nights and likely won't pass that way again. Place was a diamond in the rough with lots of opportunity. We camped at Horseshoe Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We drove to Woodstock for a day, very much worth the trip for the quaint town aesthetics. Good restaurants and interesting history related to the Rockefeller family. Just be careful to stay on roads with numbers, many named roads are gravel which would be difficult in a big motorhome or towing. Be sure to check out Farmer's Markets in the area, one just outside Woodstock.
