High Plains Camping, Oakley, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a convenient location and probably the best choice in the area. The check-in was very efficient but somewhat abrupt. Our mostly level pull-thru site was a combination of grass, gravel and mud. The recent rain required use of 4WD into and out of the slick, mushy site. Building up the sites with more gravel should eliminate the mud problem. We had no fire ring and no picnic table, but didn't need them for our overnight stay. The sites in our row were somewhat close together, but manageable. Utilities were located well and worked well. There was some road noise from I-70 and US 83. Be aware there are a lot of cedar trees if you are sensitive. There is an expansive open area that is great for walking dogs. If you watch out for the stickers, they will not pose a significant problem for pets. We would probably stay here again if in the area. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Fifth Wheel.

Roadrunner RV Resort, Red River, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The nicest RV Park in Red River. We stayed in the "adult" loop which is usually quieter and less crowded. Our site requires leveling, but we ask for the same site each year because of the mountain view. The WIFI has been improved but is still slow at times. The cable channels seemed clearer this year. The staff is a little lax on enforcing the rules, so be prepared for the occasional loose or barking dog, loud neighbor, sneaky kid and speeding vehicle. The Ute Park fire closed our normal route to the park through Raton, Cimarron and Eagle Nest. Instead we drove through Santa Rosa, Mora and Taos adding several hours to our drive (but the scenery was beautiful). We were not threatened by fire or smoke in Red River. The navigation on the interior roads can be a little tricky with trees and sharp turns. Deer are frequently spotted in the campground. We stayed for five nights. We will stay here again on our next trip to Red River. We camped at Roadrunner RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tucumcari KOA, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This is a Journey KOA, and it is in need of some grooming. Fortunately, the location is just about perfect for the area. Access is easy from I-40, check-in a breeze, friendly staff, fairly level sites. Our pull through site was #7. It has very good shade, but we only needed water and 50 amp electric for an overnight stay, so this row did not have sewer or cable. The site length must be about 100 feet. Many of the sites are side-by-side hookups, but assignments are spread out as much as possible. There was some road noise from I-40, but not at a level that was bothersome. The WIFI was a bit slow, but adequate for our needs. We would definitely stay here again when passing through the area. We camped at Tucumcari KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Brownwood State Park, Brownwood, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in site 70 on the Council Bluff Loop. Outside the loop sites generally have more room between sites and more shade than the inside ones. There was plenty of privacy and an expansive open area behind us. This loop is full hookup and up to 50 amp. The site was long but a bit narrow, so we couldn't extend the awning. That was no problem since it was too windy to use it anyway. Some leveling was required, but this is common at many State Parks. Great trails. Raccoons, coyotes, foxes and deer are in the park. Various birds were in the area. This was our first encounter with stinging caterpillars (they look like many others that crawl on the ground, kind of grayish with lighter stripes and black fuzz). They crawled up lawn chairs, fell out of trees and stung three out of four of us. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets and stars at night. Very slow WiFi. Very strong AT&T. The couple that met us set up a tent behind our 5th wheel and had plenty of room. They were VERY pleased with the site and with the cleanliness of the facilities next to our site. We all had plenty of room for bikes and kayaks and other gear. It was quiet and sparsely populated since we camped during the week. No kids, some pets. If you plan to stay here during the weekends or summer, you should make reservations. If you want sewer, reservations are also recommended every time. This is true at many other State Parks. We camped at Lake Brownwood State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Newton KOA , Newton, Iowa

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Long, fairly level sites, but close together. Fortunately, the campground wasn't full. Easy, friendly check-in. WIFI and cable worked well. This KOA is convenient to the interstate, but there is considerable road noise. East of the camp sites, there was ample room to walk the dog in an open field, and there was also a nice dog run. A pleasant creek runs along the west and south sides of the campground. Utilities worked well. We were advised of high water pressure. We've stayed here before and will probably stay again when needing an overnight. We camped at Newton KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Rustic Barn RV Park, Kieler, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very interesting campground with farm and cattle on one side and housing on the other. There are a lot of activities for kids of all ages, but no pool. There is even a rustic looking small chapel. There are a variety of campsite options, some with patios. We were in a side by side site that would be too chummy if the place were packed. Road noise was minimal. WIFI was fast and reliable. The wind direction carried the fragrance of dairy air into the campground. Rustic Barn CG was a bit pricey for our needs as an overnight stay, but would be fun for a family gathering. We camped at Rustic Barn RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Eagle Ridge RV Park, Eagleville, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We regularly stay here for overnights when passing through the area. The owners are awesome and they work hard to provide a comfortable stay. This is a very clean, spacious and peaceful campground. Credit cards are not accepted, so bring cash or check. 50 amp full hookup, long and level pull through is hard to beat at $30 with the Good Sam discount. Wellington KOA, Wellington, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice, clean, convenient campground, but far enough away from I-35 so that road noise was not an issue. However, we noticed a much louder train noise than on our previous stay (especially the coupling and uncoupling that was surprisingly jarring). Perhaps wind direction was a factor. If you or your pets are sensitive to train noise, perhaps you should find another campground. Wellington KOA was an overnight stop. We camped at Wellington KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA), Van Horn, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a quiet and convenient location south of I-20 and east of US-90. Our site was long and level. All the utilities were conveniently located and worked well. No problem with cable, but WIFI was slow with occasional drops. The staff here are exceptional! There was a sewer problem at the edge of the campground and they worked tirelessly until it was fixed. I don't think any campers were inconvenienced. We'll stay here again if in the area. We camped at Van Horn RV Park (formerly Van Horn KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Colorado City State Park, Colorado City, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is remote, quiet and very pleasant. Lots of cactus, mesquite, cedar and rabbits. Dark nights make for excellent star gazing. Lake level was somewhat low. No boating or fishing was observed during our stay. No WIFI. If the Sisters on the Fly hadn't taken up an entire loop and part of ours, the whole park would have been nearly vacant. Our site was fairly level, hookups were convenient. We would stay here again when in the area. We camped at Lake Colorado City State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Camelot Village RV & Mobile Home Park, Lubbock, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Great location on the west side of Lubbock near the Loop, so it's easy to get around. We stayed in a "nightly" site which was easy to navigate, ample size, cement and level. Utilities worked well although water h/u was below ground and somewhat difficult to connect. No cable and WIFI was sketchy, but the $25 per night was a good deal. We have stayed here before and will stay again when in the area. We camped at Camelot Village RV & Mobile Home Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Roadrunner RV Resort, Red River, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We really enjoyed this RV park and the surrounding areas. Our site was in the "adult only" loop with very few other campers, so it was quiet, restful, and scenic. Children and campfires were not permitted in our loop, and since they both can occasionally be disturbing to folks our age, we were delighted with these rules. The lower loops do not have these restrictions. There is a nice dog run, plenty of activities for kids, but no swimming pool. The tennis court is a nice but seldom used facility. Many of the sites are not level, so be prepared to make adjustments. Our loop appeared to have significantly more room at each site and between sites. WIFI and cable TV were reliable during our stay. Utilities were well placed and worked without any problems. Be careful navigating the interior roads as they are narrow with sharp turns and big trees in some places. These roads are smooth and paved, however. We stayed 5 nights and will stay here again when in the Red River area. Management is efficient, very friendly and supportive. We camped at Roadrunner RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Overnite RV Park, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stay here almost every trip through this part of Texas, and will continue to do so due to the convenience and reliability of the campground. Sites are level, long and easy to enter and exit. We have never had a problem with utilities. Be advised that we only stay one night here and never use anything but water, electric and occasionally sewer. There is highway and truck stop noise 24/7, but it is not be a problem for us since we keep our windows closed. On this visit there was no internet, but the owner was upfront with a sign on the door. Also, the swimming pool was empty, so be sure to call ahead if you need these amenities. We camped at Overnite RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We broke down near this campground. The owner and staff were extremely helpful in our distress with a broken axle. This campground is quiet and safe with long, pull-through, gravel, and mostly level sites. The utilities were well located. Presho is a very interesting small town. While waiting on a new axle, we spent time exploring the area. Should we be on I-90 in SD again, we'll make it a point to stop here. We camped at New Frontier RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
