Montgomery South RV Park, Hope Hull, Alabama

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty new park that the owner is constantly updating. Very friendly people and convenient to I65 and truck stop for fuel. Everything is clean and well maintained. Had a pull thru with ample room. We had a problem with the engine not turning over. Owner brought a jumper pack to the coach. Noticed a spark at a battery connection on attempting to start. Proceeded to clean the terminals for us. Refused to take any payment. It's that kind of place.
Try to arrive at daylight as roads are dark and GPS co-ordinates
are off. Park has sign at entrance. We camped at Montgomery South RV Park in a Motorhome.

Big Rock Campground, Big Rock, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Spotlessly clean spacious park with gravel sites and paved handicapped sites. Staff very friendly, firewood $5 for a nice bundle. All sites 50 amp with water, but no sewer hook-up. Two dump stations at exit. There is an equestrian area also. As it's a new park there are only small trees. We stayed for an Escapees event and others commented on it being a nice quiet park. We will return. We camped at Big Rock Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Small aviation museum at nearby Aurora Municipal Airport. Shops on Rt 30 and Galena Blvd. Bit of a drive. Convenient for Fox River Valley towns. Geneva has a nice downtown with the Fabian house and grounds. Good fishing in the quarry lake we were told.

Nice camp ground. Was just an overnight stop for us so we did not use any facilities. People were friendly and helpful. Bit pricey for what you get. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

Grand Ole RV Resort, Goodlettsville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice camp ground with lots to do. They have a restaurant on site that had good food. When my wife went into the camp store to buy some aspirin they had none so the owners girlfriend insisted on driving her into town to get some. Great service and friendly people. The only down side was the nearby railroad line that ran all night. No train horns though. We camped at Grand Ole RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Columbus Woods-N-Waters, Columbus, Indiana

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice camp ground. Planned out before big rigs but easy to negotiate. We had a pull through that fit our 65'. There seemed to be quite a few permanent rigs but the place is well kept. Only certain sites have sewer so check when booking if you need it otherwise there is a dump station on the way in. It was an overnight stop for us on the way north so did not use any of the facilities. Close to I65 but very quiet. We camped at Columbus Woods-N-Waters in a Motorhome.

Emmaus Motor Coach and RV Resort, Summerdale, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful park. Roads and pads are concrete. There is a nice little clubhouse with a pool table, library and kitchen facilities. Everything is spotless. Pads are far apart with many trees. Very quiet area with the exception that the navy is using a local remote field to practise touch and go landings. Fun to watch them hot dogging around in trainers. Managers are very friendly and helpful. it's about 20 min. to local town of Foley which has every store imaginable and about 30 mins. to Gulf Shores. We camped at Emmaus Motor Coach and RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a museum in the old Foley railroad depot with a large O gauge railroad layout as well as a small collection of full sized boxcars and a locomotive. Eat at the Gift Horse restaurant on Rt 98 or at the Foley Coffee Shop (serves full meals) across 59 from the depot. Next door there is an art galley located in the oldest building in town that was a real estate office.

Overall Rating:

This site is on a family farm. Very easy access from I65. All sites are pull-throughs. Owners are friendly and the WiFi is good. Water pressure is high so use a regulator. This is a great stop on the way south/north. We camped at Northgate RV Travel Park in a Motorhome.

Wolfe's Leisure Time Campground, Lafayette, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Older campground. Sites are tight for a larger rig (we are over 60' with toad) so call ahead to make sure they can accommodate you. We stayed one night on way south so can't comment on area. Backs onto the Wabash river. Lots of trees. Owner friendly and helpful. Nice CG for smaller rigs. We camped at Wolfe's Leisure Time Campground in a Motorhome.

Great Lakes Naval Base Training Center (Military FamCamp), Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2014 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

First the only thing this has is the view of Lake Michigan. It's right on the lakefront. Problems: The check in process at the hotel is a joke. After three years they should have it down. Asked on the phone for a particular site and was told we don't reserve sites. Asked about a site when booking in and was told that it was reserved! Which is it? Got to the site and someone was in it. Assigned another and there was a heavy (very) picnic table on the pad. Seems the grass cutting crew put them there and never put them back. It had rained and some of the sites were flooded. Was told it happens whenever there is heavy rain. So step out the door into mud. This place could be a jewel if management would get a grip. We camped at Great Lakes Naval Base Training Center (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Great Lakes Naval Base Training Center (Military FamCamp), Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We often stay here. It's a wonderful site except there are no water or sewer hook ups. Both are available at the marina along with toilets and showers about 3/4 mile along the lakefront. There is a beach house with toilets and shower as well, but the Marina is nicer. They need to do something about the electric as there seems to be only a 200 amp service and voltage is always low (108v was seen at times). There is always talk about expanding and installing full hook-ups but this is the Navy and everything takes forever to get done. Note that the reservations are now taken by the Navy Gateway Inn on base NOT the Marina. Phone # is 847-688-6675 24 hour service. Make sure you emphasize RV Park and not "camping" because that is tent camping at a different site. We camped at Great Lakes Naval Base Training Center (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Stop N Dock Marina, Two Rivers, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2011 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nice little marina/RV park right on river. Because of low water levels the docks were empty so it was very quite. Owner is friendly. Good restaurant called the Lighthouse Inn right on the lake not too far away. Wi-Fi was down otherwise a it's a 10. We camped at Stop N Dock Marina in a Motorhome.

City of Houghton RV Park, Houghton, Michigan

Date of Stay: October, 2010 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

I hate to give this site the 5 stars it deserves as it will always be full! This is the nicest site we have ever stayed at. Besides full hook-ups you get your own fire ring, cabana with a picnic table as well as a park bench to watch the boats go by. You have to book well in advance and send them a check. No B.S. fees from third party on-line booking sites or park entry fees here. The camp hosts are friendly. Security is excellent as it's patrolled by the Houghton PD. There are restrooms just along the road but you must be self-contained to stay here. There is easy access to all amenity's as the site is located close to downtown though you would never know it once camped. If only other sites were as well run as this one. We camped at City of Houghton RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Kohler-Andrae State Park, Sheboygan, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: October, 2010 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We booked this on line - only option - which adds $10.00 to the site fee of $22.00. There is an entrance fee of $10.00 per day each day! Buy the yearly out of state sticker for $35.00 if you want to enter a state park more than 3 times! We arrived after dark and could not back into our assigned site as there were picnic tables in the way. It was of course pitch dark. There were no unreserved spaces alongside the road available. We were very disappointed and drove the extra 110 miles home. We had driven from the City of Hougton, MI RV park, Wisconsin needs to look at how they run their park. Too expensive for what you get. We camped at Kohler-Andrae State Park in a Travel Trailer.

J W Wells State Park, Cedar River, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2010 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Very well maintained park. Helpful staff and excellent, clean facilities. Despite a lot of recent rain the grass sites were quite good. Dump station was spotless. As this is the 4th July holiday site was very busy but there was no excessive noise in the evening. Several people we met were locals who are regulars. There is even a group that raises funds for the park to add what the State cannot. We camped at J W Wells State Park in a Travel Trailer.
