Cross Winds Family Campground, Linwood, North Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2011 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

A really nice place to stay! Sites are very large, and the ones close to office are level. Some in trees are not level. Very quiet even though Interstate 85 is nearby. Design of hookups is well thought out. Great play area for children. Very friendly staff. We camped at Cross Winds Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Large level sites. Close to Fort Gordon. No restrooms -- self-contained rigs only. Cable TV not available for short term stay. Free wi-fi. Very helpful staff. Expansion in progress will make this an even better place to stay. We camped at Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Folksy and friendly. We were greeted with fresh baked cookies. No cable due to local cable company going out of business. Wi-fi is satellite so is a bit slow. Quiet. We camped at Southern Gates RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Crystal Lake RV Resort, Naples, Florida

Overall Rating:

Expensive, but a great place to stay! Staff and guests are friendly and helpful. Lots are large and private. Wi-fi available only in the office and rec center, but a high speed cable modem is available at a nominal cost. Many activities and facilities for recreation are available. Groceries and restaurants are close. We camped at Crystal Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Motorcoach Resort St. Lucie West, Port Saint Lucie, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

Greatly overpriced for what you get! Wi-fi only available in rec center. Rec center is just a big room with no exercise or recreational facilities. Pets are only allowed to take care of business in the dog park -- many guests transport their dogs to the park in golf carts. All lots are privately owned, and the staff gives a hard sell for currently unsold lots with the check-in. No attempt was made to provide information about nearby facilities. We will not stay there again. We camped at Motorcoach Resort St. Lucie West in a Motorhome.

South of the Border, Dillon, South Carolina

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This a very convenient place for an overnight stop. The sites are long and flat. We have stopped here many times, but this time we had a serious problem with the power. At about 2 AM the power to our motorhome went off. The entire power box had no service. There were no employees on site to correct the problem, and nobody in the office the next morning to report the problem to. Because the campground was not crowded, we were able to hook up to another power source. We would not stay here if the campground was full. Also, avoid the sites near the sewage treatment plant as they are noisy. We camped at South of the Border in a Motorhome.

Coles Creek Campground, Carlyle, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2009 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Reservation website, recreation.gov, does not make it clear which sites have hookup's and which do not. Very few sites have water & sewer hookups. campground is far from civilization which makes it quiet, but not easy to find groceries, etc. We have stayed at Dam West several times which is MUCH better. We probably will not stay at Coles Creek again. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Iowa State Fairgrounds, Des Moines, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2009 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Layout of sites and utilities is very erratic and poorly defined. Many sites are not level. Signage is non-existent until you actually enter the fair grounds. Entry from the west on E. Grand Ave is easiest. It is a very pleasant place when it is not crowded, but could be difficult if anything significant is going on at the fair grounds. We camped at Iowa State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Blackhawk Valley Campground, Rockford, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2009 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

A pleasant campground with very friendly office staff. Quiet, along river off the beaten path, but easy to find. Our site was a spacious, level pull-through. Office recommended a nearby pizza delivery that brought us a GREAT pizza. There are several negatives, however. Campground caters to seasonal occupants. Only sewer hookups are reserved for seasonals. Sites close to river are seasonal also. Wi-Fi works in limited locations. We camped at Blackhawk Valley Campground in a Motorhome.
