Jellystone Park of Western New York, North Java, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

There are new owners this year. WiFi did not work except at the top of the hill near the store. Will avoid weekends in future due to overcrowding. This is obviously because park has so much to offer and nothing against staff or park--just a heads up because it is not relaxing and is hard to get in and out of sites on the weekend. Premium sites are obviously easier to maneuver. Top$$$. We camped at Jellystone Park of Western New York in a Motorhome.

Sampson State Park, Romulus, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2011 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Bring a long electrical cord extension. Average for state parks. Sites are fairly big but laid out funny. Electrical boxes are on wrong side of site as are gravel pads. Decent beach. Nice Bike riding park. 25 Minutes to Watkins Glen gorge so if you have a big rig and don't want to stay at Watkins glen park which looks tight this is an option. Close to winery's and central between Geneva and Watkins Glen. Bathrooms decent. Would return. Some sites are on incline or decline and are not marked on Reserve America. Has Beach nice playground boat marina and military museum. We camped at Sampson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Old Forge Camping Resort, Old Forge, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2010 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Ok for short trip in area. We stayed 5 days which I felt was a little long for this park. Very tight. I have a 30 footer and was barely on site. Any further back I'd be in the lake. No sites that cater to big rigs. Average site is like 18x25. They had some big sites but now it is loaded with cabins. Watch out for bears!! No pool and they nickel and dime you for every activity. Staff just tolerates people. Just not friendly for some reason. My wife went to the counter to tell them a video game was open and kids were taking money. Lady looked at her like why are you are you wasting my time. When she realized she wasn't asking a question attitude changed real quick. Not all bad though. Good enough for short stay for water park. Kids run out of things to do quick. All shade. We camped at Old Forge Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Canandaigua / Rochester KOA, Farmington, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2009 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Positives- Clean baths, attentive owner, close to Canandaigua, nice pool , enough for kids to do. Negatives - site size (tight) if you have anything bigger than a pop up. Putt Putt should be ripped out and burned; old plywood and all warped. Workers sometimes treat you like an inmate about rules. Bathrooms are closed too long for cleaning. Odd sewer placement, but I guess sites are so small placement will be close anyway. Site is top secret until you drive across state to realize you are right next to playground. We camped at Canandaigua / Rochester KOA in a Travel Trailer.
