Hawn State Park Campground, Sainte Genevieve, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Very well maintained, clean, and attractive park. Friendly hosts and the park manager was helpful on hiking trail questions. Ranger and Hosts maintained periodic drive by presence. Sites had good space between and mostly near full day shade. Sites were paved, had good drainage and level. The bathhouse was a bit of a walk from first campground (CG) loop. Used it daily, it was clean. The showers had benches and curtains. On site laundry but did not use. Level, paved CG road good for children's bicycling but large hill on park so minimal distance bicycle riding (for the serious only). Excellent hiking trails were mapped and well blazed. Interesting geological terrain features. Trails varied in effort and offered scenic views and creek wading. Creek (shallow and clean moving water) on edge of CG, is easily accessible for wading. Small children's playground with medium sized grassy field for kites, playing catch, etc.. Would visit again. Stayed in 24 ft. travel trailer. We camped at Hawn State Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park, Wildwood, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Check in at the park was easy and quick. The host was very helpful and friendly. Dump station easy to get to and well marked (not messy). Park convenient to attractions in and around St. Louis. A nice forested area with paved walking and bicycling paths. Nature classes nightly in amphitheater. We are repeat guests as we live nearby and return because the visitors are generally well mannered and rangers do drive-bys. My travel trailer is 24 ft. We camped at Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

NOTE: If in an RV or towing and coming in from I-64/US40, I would recommend using Wild Horse Creek Road. It is safer than the GPS noted alternate Eatherton Road.

Dam West Recreation Area COE, Carlyle, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly hosts. Sites had good space between. Sites had good drainage and level, most appeared big rig friendly. Some extra long sites available. The bathhouses all appeared to be easy walking distance. Visited one and it was clean and air conditioned, but shower could have used a curtain to separate water spray from clothes and towel. On site laundry. Level park roads good for bicycling and park may be subject to flooding (call ahead) as it is on a large lake. A marina is on the park, and has a boat launch (day fee). We camped at Dam West Recreation Area COE in a Travel Trailer.
