Soo Locks Campground, Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This park is right on the St. Mary's River and the sites really vary. We stayed in #54 and watched freighters go by out the windshield. Not everyone was so fortunate-some of the sites are blocked views and one row is all gravel so choose carefully. The rules are posted and taken seriously but they are reasonable so were not a problem. We would stay there again. We camped at Soo Locks Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The CG is a short bike ride to downtown and the locks. It's the perfect place to boat watch. Get a burger at the West Pier drive-in and plan on spending time on the Valley Camp. It's a great museum.

Wilderness State Park, Carp Lake, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

This is the first negative review I have written and it's frustrating to review this park. It's in a fabulous location to be out in Northern Michigan. It's out on the tip of the lower peninsula and right on Lake Michigan. There's a dark sky viewing area and a lot of trails and bike paths. Here's the negative: there's over 250 campsites crammed in like sardines. We were just passing through and opted for an electric site instead of FHU. The FHU sites are much nicer but still close together. If I can't get a FHU next time I'll pass on the park. It's really a shame. We camped at Wilderness State Park in a Motorhome.

Meinert County Park, Pines Campground, Montague, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very quiet, well-maintained park West of Montague, MI. We were on site 3 which is level, paved and shaded. We had full hook-up but brought our own water. The beach is about a half mile west but you can walk down a two-lane dead-end road to get there. The play area for kids is small and about a quarter mile away but there is a large sandbox on the grounds, complete with buckets, shovels, etc. About half the sites are seasonal but the trailers are in good condition and everybody picks up and puts their stuff away when they leave. There are a number of sites that are grassy but most seem to be level concrete pads. I rated it an 8 just because it's so remote ( which made watching the meteor shower fun). I would have no problem going back. We camped there in a motor home. We camped at Meinert County Park, Pines Campground in a Motorhome.

Big Lagoon State Park, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

The park is on a quiet barrier island but very close to Pensacola NAS and the Air Museum. There are a lot of trails for walking and biking out to the Intracoastal waterway and the Gulf beaches. I would have graded it higher but during the whole time we stayed there the bathroom had no soap in the dispenser and no paper towels. We camped at Big Lagoon State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Do not miss the Naval Air Museum. It's huge, packed with exhibits and planes, and free. If the Blue Angels are practicing (usually Tuesday and Wednesday) you can watch them from the Museum grounds free.

Blackwater River State Park , Holt, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

The park is located in the Blackwater River State Forest. It's small but very clean and well-equipped. The bathrooms have hand soap and paper towels! That is a pleasant change from empty soap dispensers and hand blowers. The sites are gravel but level and impeccably groomed. Each site has a fire ring and they are cleaned after each camper leaves. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are hiking trails and water activities in the river are awesome! Canoe rentals are available (kayaks, tubes, etc. as well). This is rural north FL: don't expect amusement parks or touristy stuff. We loved it.

Luxury RV Resort, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This was our third visit. The park is four blocks to the beach, an ideal location for walking around town. The sites are gravel but are well-manicured. The general area is quite dry-we found cactus growing on a couple of walks-so grass isn't practical. Our site was level and easy to back in to. We camped at Luxury RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Pioneer County Park, North Muskegon, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

County parks can be iffy but this place is excellent. It is right on Lake Michigan and has two well-kept beaches. The campsites are level, most have at least partial shade and are large enough for an RV and a tent. There is a nice playground, ball diamond, volleyball court and a large shelter. There is a boardwalk along the top of the sand dune that overlooks the beach and stairs to the water. They even have life jackets for kids available at no charge. We camped at Pioneer County Park in a Truck Camper.

Grand Island KOA, Doniphan, Nebraska

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here as an overnight stop. The campground was clean. The site was level and had grass on both sides. I arrived after closing but there was an envelope with a map to my site and Wi-Fi instructions. The campground is only a few hundred yards from I-80 but it was very quiet. I will plan on staying here again because it is so easy to access. We camped at Grand Island KOA in a Truck Camper.

Oak Mountain State Park, Pelham, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2012 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice place. It is close to I-65 but very quiet. This is a great place for bicycling as there are trails throughout the park. The site was shaded and there was a nice separation between the sites. We stayed overnight on the way to the gulf. We would stop there again. We camped at Oak Mountain State Park in a Truck Camper.

Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2012 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is a typical National Park: clean, well-maintained and supervised. The sites are paved but some are very short: pay attention to site descriptions. At least half of the sites have some privacy by appropriate vegetation growing between sites. The location is very nice. It's in an undeveloped end of Santa Rosa Island. Large portions of the island are over-developed but the park is very natural. This is the second year we have camped there. We camped at Fort Pickens Campground in a Truck Camper.

Luxury RV Resort, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: April, 2012 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This park is located right in the heart of Gulf Shores and is a short walk to the beach. That is good and bad news. There are several bars that are located on the highway that are loud at night. We were close to one of them, but running the A/C fan on low was enough to drown out the noise. The pool is very nice and clean. The whole park is clean, but there is very little grass anywhere. We found this to be the best choice in the Gulf Shores area. We have returned here annually. We camped at Luxury RV Resort in a Truck Camper.

Pine Mountain RV Resort, Pine Mountain, Georgia

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a tough review to write. Everything that others have said about the park is accurate - the mix of rustic and shady sites, the pull-through area that has no shade, etc. Everyone from the staff was helpful and friendly. The hard part: there just isn't anything here that justifies the high price. If you're going to stay here, check for a discount from another RVC park, Good Sam, something. We camped at Pine Mountain RV Resort in a Truck Camper.

Norris Dam State Park, Norris, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here as an overnight during a visit to friends in Knoxville. We arrived after dark, so we had no idea what the park looked like. The next morning we were pleasantly surprised. The park sites are roomy, the parking pads are paved and in good condition, and the overall condition of the CG was excellent. We want to return to explore the campground more thoroughly in the future. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Truck Camper.

Carrabelle Beach RV Resort, Carrabelle, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We loved this place. It is clean, offers a ton of amenities, and the ads are accurate. Everyone is friendly. There is a nice laundry with a screen porch so you don't have to sit in front of a washer while you're waiting for your clothes. The beach is literally across the road and is very walkable. The only drawback for some would be the lack of a nearby town for activities. For us, that was a plus. We plan to return next year and will probably stay for several weeks. It is that nice. We camped at Carrabelle Beach RV Resort in a Truck Camper.

Little Talbot State Park, Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This park advertises itself as a, "Two-time gold medal award winning park." It probably is, but it is really for the Kayak / tent / serious fishing types. We are more beach bums. The beach is a drive from the park. Our campsite was very shaded and wooded on three sides. The shade kept grass from growing much and dirt in the camper was an issue. Bugs were also an issue. We will not return next year. We camped at Little Talbot State Park in a Truck Camper.
