There is a good dentist within walking distance - across the street. Fees are very high, typical of California where gas prices are high and liquor prices very low. I'm not sure what they are trying to tell me.

Santa Cruz Ranch RV Park, Scotts Valley, California

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $82.00
Overall Rating:

The cable TV works. Wi-Fi, not so much. When you are inside of five miles of this RV park, turn off your GPS. Otherwise, you'll tear your air conditioner(s) off the roof, have to unhook, backup, reverse, and never arrive. The location in Scotts Valley is great. Santa Cruz is but minutes away and every convenience known to man is nearby with a ten percent sales tax. The RV park packs you in like sardines sans olive oil. Your tow car will not fit on your site and they run out of overflow parking around five p.m. They don't seem to object to us parking our tow car in the road. It does make it other people's problem however. There are lots of long-timers with their children who are easy to run over if you are not diligent. This is most likely a corollary of the housing expense in the area. The sites are all 30-amp, full hookup. However, the water pressure can drop to nothing as will the electrical voltage. Our solution for the former was to fill our water tank all day - there is a little water pressure - and run our water pump for showers and cooking. The former problem was solved by running our generator. At $82 a night it does seem they want a lot for very little. On the other hand, the pool looks nice and the hot tub hot. We would not return unless we had to for family reasons. We camped at Santa Cruz Ranch RV Park in a Motorhome.

Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

The beach! Hanna Park features one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The pristine beach is two and a half miles long. And there is a lake and water park on the west side. The 450-acre park is heavily wooded with an abundance of maritime hammocks filled with majestic live oaks draped in Spanish moss. There are bike and hiking trails throughout the lovely forest.

The sites are long and sort of level - level enough. The electrical service, 50 amps was recently upgraded. The water at 340 ppm is fairly good. Television reception is good though the trees block satellite reception on most of the sites.

There are 175 sites which are just this side of overgrown. Well, the whole place is just this side of overgrown. But, I like the wild ambiance. However, if your rig is tall, you will lose your antennas and incur some scratches. The interior roads are tight and narrow as witnessed by tree damage.

The location is convenient to all of the attractions of Jacksonville and Atlantic Beach. A ferry is available to take you across the river to Amelia Island, the Kingsley Plantation and points north. Hanna Park is also near the Mayo Clinic.

Shorebirds, wading birds, alligators, and foxes all call Hanna Park home. From May through October, sea turtles also nest on the beach.

It's a government run, city, park with all that implies. The park is usually nearly empty year around. But, on some holidays the locals fill it up. The workers tell me that's the reason they keep this wonderful place nearly a secret - "So there will be space for the locals." They have accomplished that. Often it seems like we have the place to ourselves.

Typically, there are a lot of host campers - some days they seem to outnumber the customers. You will rarely see the city employees outside of the office, and I guess the host campers don't trim trees. There are a number of facilities for groups and/or rallies. Alas, they are all closed - too much work to maintain and to clean up after. We camped at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park in a Motorhome.

Mohican North Star RV Park, Bowler, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Enter through entryway one.
This is a very clean and neat park with no amenities other than the casino.
No Wifi in RV park but free in casino
No pool showers or bathrooms other than those in the casino. Through there are portapotties strategically located.
Clean site, 1/2 pull through with paved roads and gravel sites. Close together side by side but fine in the front yard. We camped at Mohican North Star RV Park in a Motorhome.

Chattahoochee RV Campground& Fishing Resort, Chattahoochee, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

City RV park on the south end of Lake Seminole without a lot of amenities or Wifi. It is quiet and the price is good. We have been here many times and park on the lower level by the river. Caution: if it rains, it gets very muddy and then floods on the lower, and sometimes on the upper level. If rain is in the forecast - leave. We almost went under. TV reception is good and cell service is okay. Parking on the lower level is a bit confusing as the power posts (no sewer) are placed in what seems a random pattern. Park where you will as no one seems to care. We were the only ones here on the lower level. The plan is to drive into town and pay at the city hall. We never hesitate to stop here. We camped at Chattahoochee RV Campground& Fishing Resort in a Motorhome.

Campgrounds of the South, Gulfport, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

The park is clean and well maintained. There are not a lot of amenities. No cable, no pool, no tables, no fire ring, no dog walking area, no . . . well, nothing. There is Wi-Fi, although I was unable to connect. The water is good at 155 ppm. TV reception is good, cell service excellent, and there are not enough trees to block satellite reception. Campgrounds of the South is an easy on and off both Route 10 and 49 making it very convenient for an overnight stop. There are tradeoffs as the traffic noise is fierce. Well, that's the first impression. Then you hear the truck's exhaust brakes - more impressive. Soon, you will discover that the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is just a mile away. Depending on which way the planes are taking off and landing, the noise may hit a new high. Next, you'll find that Keesler Air Force Base is less than ten miles east. Now those planes make a lot of noise in defense of our country. And, the military jets may use the Gulfport airport too. After a while, I just tuned it all out and slept well. We would consider stopping here again at the Passport America price. We camped at Campgrounds of the South in a Motorhome.

Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

All of the roads are paved, and the sites are pull-through on concrete with picnic tables. It is a very clean and well-maintained park and the price is reasonable as long as you stay out of the casinos. The park belongs to the Ameristar casino, and it is patrolled by their security. The water is excellent at 120 ppm. Electric power is good. Sadly, I could not connect with their Wi-Fi. No worries, our cell card worked fine. There is easy access from Route 20. The park is located conveniently to the casinos, historic downtown, the battlefield, and museums. There is a Walmart nearby as well as all kinds of shopping. There is a lot to do in this old Southern city. This is our second visit to Vicksburg and this park and would not hesitate to return. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Motorhome.

Texas Rose RV Park, Tyler, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Just off of Route 20 this park makes a convenient overnight stop which is easy to get into and out of. It is rough around the edges. But, everything worked and the price, at $20, is right.
The layout for transients is unusual. You are to park in a circle, yes just like the wagon trains of yesterday. It works once you figure it out.
The park is over 90 percent low-end long timers. The transients are assigned sites on the highway side. The highway, Route 29 is close, less than one hundred yards.
Wifi is good. The water is fair. It has a taste and 257 ppm of contaminants. The wife, cat, and I would not hesitate to stop here in the future.
Note that Garmin doesn't know about this park but can find it using the address. We camped at Texas Rose RV Park in a Motorhome.

The Wagon Wheel Guest Ranch (formerly The Wooden Spoke Guest Ranch), Snyder, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

The Wagon Wheel is a convenient and clean RV Park built on a perfectly charming nineteenth century ranch on the Texas Tablelands. For the first time I appreciate the beauty of the Prairie. The ranch no longer is in operation though the corrals and building take you back to another time.

It is a hard place to find. For Garmin or Google to find it you must type in 'County Road ', not 'CR'. There are no signs. And, sadly, it has seen better days. The pool and playgrounds are not maintained. The café is closed. There is no Internet, cable, or TV (well, there is one religious station that you can receive. I'm not sure that counts.).

There are a lot of bad reviews due, the story goes, to its being leased to an operator who did a poor job. Now, the potholes are filled, the trees are trimmed, and everything an RVer needs works fine. The sites are long and level, the water tasty, and the power stable. There is a bunkhouse, individual rooms with a queen size bed, two bunk beds, and a bathroom. They are all very neat and clean. The ranch brings a whole new level to quiet and peaceful.

And, there are huge faculties for banquets, parties, or rallies. My understanding is that meetings, parties, and weddings make up most of their business. There was no one here during our stay of two days other than three permanent residents who are rarely seen. There were no other customers. I was told that you had to be family or to know someone to find this place. It was hard to find someone to give the money to. We finally paid one of the permanent residents to give to the manager when she returns in a couple of days from Austin.

Regardless, I love it! For me, it could be a destination. It is beautiful land about to become a wind farm. My wife and I would go out of our way to revisit this wonderful place. We camped at The Wagon Wheel Guest Ranch (formerly The Wooden Spoke Guest Ranch) in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Easy in and out of long sites. Other than that it's a basic RV park with no amenities. No cable as the cable company in this sad little town went out of business. WiFi is excellent.

Black Bart's RV Park, Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

There is no pool, no WiFi, no cable . . . Well, not much of anything here other than an overpriced restaurant. The sites are small, not level (We have three 4X4 boards under our jacks.), and the roads wore out years ago. But the fare is the lowest in town and everything works. If you are just stopping for the night, it's an easy in and out. If you are here for Flagstaff, BB's is just on the edge of the city which is very close, and there is bus service to downtown and the mall. We like Black Bart's and stay here every time we're visiting Flagstaff. And, the office workers are wonderful. The only bad is there is a huge parking lot adjacent to the RV park. They run their engines all night. If the wind is blowing toward the RVs, it becomes hard to breathe for some. We camped at Black Bart's RV Park in a Motorhome.

Verde Valley RV & Camping Resort (Thousand Trails), Cottonwood, Arizona

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $3.00
Overall Rating:

This camp has every amenity known, and it all works. It is very clean and well maintained. We had no problems at all in all had a good time. My only ill feeling was it seems to cater to long time visitors. A lot of them go in using Thousand Trails. When their time is up the move to Bureau of Land Management land at the top of the hill - it is dry camping. Then, as soon as possible they move back down into the RV park. Transients like us, who stayed only a couple of days are not welcomed by either the residents or the staff. About 10 am on our last day a couple approached us and asked when we were going to vacate their site. They were coming back from the top of the hill and wanted their site back. They had fixed it up with stones around it and had planted some flowers. Checkout time is noon. It's a little strange. But, they were very polite and said 'please vacate our site'. We camped at Verde Valley RV & Camping Resort (Thousand Trails) in a Motorhome.

Apache Wells RV Resort (55+ park), Mesa, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Most of the sites are 'snowbirds from Canada'. One of the residents told us that there are only about thirty sites occupied during the summer. Being from Florida, I call it the 'affordable Villages'. The park is very clean, near sterile, and has a lot of amenities, a la the Villages. There is a pool, hot tub, tennis courts, and more. There are all types of clubs (for long term residents). The Wifi is terrific! Best I've had. We would not hesitate to stay here again. We camped at Apache Wells RV Resort (55+ park) in a Motorhome.
