Northwest Michigan Fairgrounds Campground, Traverse City, Michigan

Date of Stay: October, 2013 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Large, level, gravel sites. Easy back in. Convenient location to Traverse City and Sleepy Bear. This is not a destination. This is a great place to park the RV with electric and get out and have fun in an amazing area of the country. Verizon cell/MIFI strong. Would stay here again. We camped at Northwest Michigan Fairgrounds Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Petoskey State Park/ Tannery Creek Campground, Petoskey, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Petoskey is a lovely state park by Little Traverse Bay. The sites are paved, semi-level, and small. The biggest problem is the difficulty of backing in with all the trees. Verizon cell works fine. MIFI does not work well barely pulling 3G. The area is spectacular including the beautiful drive on the Tunnel of Trees scenic byway. Would stay here again. We camped at Petoskey State Park/ Tannery Creek Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park / Union Bay Campground, Ontonagon, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Right on Lake Superior at Union Bay. There is lots of hiking, canoeing, kayaking and motor touring to be done in the area. Sites are grass, somewhat level and open. Make sure to take the time to go over to the Black River National Forest Scenic Byway. A bit of a drive; however, well worth the trip. The "Porkies" as they are known would qualify as a National Park. Michigan decided it couldn't wait for that status so created the state wilderness park instead. The park does have the essence and quality level of a National Park. Well worth the trip. Would come again. We camped at Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park / Union Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Fort Wilkins Historic State Park, Copper Harbor, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Enjoyed this park as the Cooper Harbor area is stunning. Sites are level and paved. Most sites are on the smallish size. The campground is lightly wooded. There was no Verizon cell/MIFI service in Cooper Harbor. Would stay here again. We camped at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park, Paradise, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Tahquamenon Falls State Park is a fantastic place. The campground offers ADA sites. All sites are relatively large, level, grass and dirt. The bathrooms/showers were clean. The staff was friendly. We only stayed one night; however, there is much to do in the area including Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, kayaking/canoeing and hiking to the falls. There was no Verizon service in the state park. Would stay here again. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Munising Tourist Park Campground, Munising, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here to take the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore boat tour. The layout for the lesser priced sites is odd as others have stated. That said, they are level. Most sites have a view of the lake. The sunsets were fantastic. One can overlook a lot for the views and the water. We stayed here coming and going in our travels of the U.P. Would stay again. We camped at Munising Tourist Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Straits State Park, Saint Ignace, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here twice. First time when arriving in the Upper Peninsula and the second time before returning to lower Michigan. On our first visit we stayed in the lower section to the left at the bottom of the hill. The section is good, yet hilly and the sites vary widely in levelness. This section is quieter as it is farther from I-75. There are tremendous views of the Mackinac Bridge and the Straits of Mackinac. The sunsets are spectacular. St. Ignace is a quiet tourist town that we found much more enjoyable than Mackinaw City. All three boat companies offer service to Mackinac Island from St. Ignace. The second time we stayed on the upper level. The sites are larger, more level and many pull thrus. Verizon cell/MIFI extremely strong. Would definitely stay again. We camped at Straits State Park in a Travel Trailer.

P.H. Hoeft State Park, Rogers City, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Sometimes a park comes along that is very special. This is what we felt about Hoeft State Park. We just loved our time here. The sites are dirt and it is heavily wooded. Some larger rigs would be challenged. The staff was absolutely wonderful. The restroom/showers were clean. Verizon cell was good if I stood outside the RV. Verizon Mi-Fi slow 3G. Would definitely come back. We camped at P.H. Hoeft State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Alpena County Fairgrounds, Alpena, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Very basic park, which was all that was needed for our time there. We stayed in one of the back sites by the river. The ones on each end are fairly level while the others, not so much. Those sites were pleasant because of the walking/biking path and away from the traffic noise; however, if you need to be by the bathrooms park in the front section. We stayed there to visit the Great Lakes Heritage Museum and to take the shipwreck boat tour. Both were fantastic. Strong Verizon cell/MIFI. A couple of miles from Walmart. Would stay again. We camped at Alpena County Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Tawas Point State Park, East Tawas, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park on Tawas Bay. Sites are all grass except for the ADA ones near the bathrooms and vary in levelness. We first stayed near the beach; however, the wind was so strong that the campfires blew into are rig. Moved to space 2, which is a large spot near entrance. Like most state parks, would not want to be here when full. Bath/showers spotless. Staff extremely pleasant. Strong Verizon cell/Mi-Fi signal. Kayak and bike rental. Great place for kite boarding. Would stay again. We camped at Tawas Point State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Finn Road Park Campground, Essexville, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park. Sites are reasonably sized, level concrete pads. Interior roads paved. Verizon cell and MiFi excellent. Lovely walking path out to Saginaw Bay. Out in the country; however convenient to everything. This was a bargain. Price should be around $25.00 per night when compared to similar type parks we have been to around the country. We camped at Finn Road Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, Waterford, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This was a good campground for seeing the greater Detroit area. Most of the sites in the west loop are in the trees and very private. We chose site 44 because it was more open. Glad we did because Verizon both cell and 4G struggled inside our rig. The campground was never full even on one of the biggest weekends of the summer, Woodward Ave. Dream Cruise. Everyone was extremely polite and quiet. At night on the weekends it does get a little smoky from the campfires; thank goodness for A/C. The showers are individual with plenty of hot water. The restrooms were always spotless. Sites do vary in levelness so pay attention to what the website description says. A previous reviewer noted that the electric box is close to the pad on the west loop and far away on the east loop. A significant reason to choose the west loop (numbers 1 through 94) with an RV and A/C. The rate was $18 per night. $8.00 reservation fee. Out-of-state: $30.50 non-resident pass good for one year at all MI parks. We camped at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

White River Campground, Cicero, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

There is a reason this campground is rated 8, 9 and 10 exclusively. Situated on the banks of the lazy White River one can sit and watch the kayakers and tubers float by. The campground is spotless with staff and hosts that take pride in this county park. The restrooms, showers and laundry are spotless. Even over the weekend when the park was full, it was quiet and everyone was respectful. The sites are concrete, large enough for most RVs with a metal picnic table and fire pit. Verizon service was strong. Only about ten minutes from Noblesville were all the chain stores can be found. Price reflects one week out-of-state. We camped at White River Campground in a Travel Trailer.
