Sandy Pines Campground (formerly Salty Pines Campground), Kennebunkport, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

Now called Sandy Pines, there are new owners here. I had never been there before but you can still see what it once looked like as the work is not done. As for the work done so far, all I can say is WOW! Everything here looks amazing from the entry to the office and store to the pool to the sites and the bathhouses. The entire front half of the campground has been done over and the work continues. The sites are all new crushed stone with new bark mulch between the sites. All new fire pits and utilities at the sites which look great. The bathhouse were very nice as well. They are installing campground maps and info boards throughout the campground. The staff was very nice as well and made you feel very welcome. To date they have done a wonderful job on everything. We camped at Sandy Pines Campground (formerly Salty Pines Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Red Apple Campground, Arundel, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has quickly become one of our favorites. The owners are extremely friendly and the campground is clean and beautiful. Staff is out and about making sure everything is picked up and clean. It is very quiet here which is what we look for on many weekends. Peaceful and relaxing is the key to us having a good weekend. The pool was wonderful and the store had everything we needed. The only negative that I can say is that at times the wifi was deathly slow but other than that we had the best time here. We camped at Red Apple Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Normandy Farms, Foxboro, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $78.00
Overall Rating:

Another great stay at this top notch resort. Nice to see they are working on and improving the park. They have added and/or upgraded some sites and looks as if they are adding more sites. Makes me look forward to our next stay to see what changes. Got to enjoy the pools and hot tubs. Outside pool was a bit cool but the inside pool was nice. Surprisingly quiet for the size Campground this is. Staff was great and the entire experience was great. We camped at Normandy Farms in a Travel Trailer.

Abel Mountain Campground, Braintree, Vermont

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We returned here since our son lives within 5 minutes of the park. We had a site on the river which was nice. The sites along the river are plenty wide enough. The one negative is with some rain, the grass was wet and are feet got wet but probably better than getting mud everywhere. The owners were very nice and they have a very nice visitor policy. If your visitors are just coming to your site then there is no charge, only visitors that plan on using the pool and other facilities need to pay and they use the honor system to collect the fees. Not too much to do in the area but we did go out to breakfast with our son and took a ride up to Ben and Jerry's. this was a very quiet Campground, night and day, never heard any noise of any kind other than the train. We camped at Abel Mountain Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Fransted Family Campground, Franconia, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Another awesome stay at Fransted. Gregg and Karen are wonderful hosts and run a nice, clean campground. For the holiday weekend, they keep things very orderly and quiet which we really appreciate. You hear so many horror stories about camping on holiday but no issues here. In the early evening we were able to sit back, enjoy our fire and listen to nature and some kids playing in the distance. As the evening went out, we did not hear a sound from any other campers. They had planned activities throughout the weekend but we only attending the food activities, the ice cream social and the cake event. Both were very good and well attended. This was our first trip in the spring and the campground looked great. The tent sites were all cleaned and ready for the season with new mulch pads, the bathrooms were very clean and the overall look was great. One of my favorite things to do when we are walking is to stand on the bridge and just watch the water flow by, it is so peaceful and relaxing. This year we stood on a new bridge which looked great and must have been a big undertaking in the off season. If you love nature and a peaceful camping experience, this is the place for you. My wife likes this campground so much she is thinking of trying a tenting weekend and I think that will be a first for her. We camped at Fransted Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Whispering Pines Campground, Newton, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

New owners here are very nice and friendly. Campground is very quiet this time of year. There are train tracks nearby but this did not bother us, we love hearing trains. Sites are large. Many sites are seasonal and campers were all working on cleaning up the sites or adding decks etc. Pool looked nice and the owners were busy getting the place ready for the season. All the hook ups were great and modern. Bathhouse was older but very clean. We camped at Whispering Pines Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Fransted Family Campground, Franconia, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This is always the easiest review to write. We love this campground and the owners are great, so easy to talk to. This campground has simple rules and if you follow them you will have a great experience. This campground is beautiful and is a very special place for us. Walking the campground is nice, standing on the bridge watching the water flow is so peaceful. The sites are great, we had a very private full hookup site. The tent sites are great and some are right on the water. We missed going here last year but not again, we will camping there next year for sure. In addition to being a great campground, the area it is located is wonderful with so much to do. The foliage this weekend was great. We camped at Fransted Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Bangor / Holden KOA (formerly Red Barn Campground), Holden, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed 6 nights and enjoyed our stay. Owners were very nice. It was off season so it was somewhat quiet although busier than we expected. Our site worked fine but was tight, had to leave the truck on the very edge of the street. Had to move it a couple times to let campers out from across the street. If you are in the area for Bar Harbor, you are about an hour away. There are a few things to do in the area but not much. We were there for 6 nights. Will return if we are in the area. We camped at Bangor / Holden KOA (formerly Red Barn Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Old Stage Campground, Madbury, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Just home from a nice Labor Day weekend. We like the campground more every time we go. The owners are very friendly as are the seasonal campers. It was fun to see so many kids out running around, riding bikes and playing basketball. From our site we could enjoy listening to the DJ while sitting by the fire. We found the evenings to be mostly quiet especially for a holiday. We have booked for next year already. Wifi was good at the start of the weekend but would kick us off often as the weekend went on. Our site was a pull through which worked out great and was a good size for us. We camped at Old Stage Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Boston / Cape Cod KOA, Middleboro, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

This is like 2 different campgrounds. Last year we were in the back section which was fine but away from everything. This trip we were in a backin site in the front section. We were right in the middle of the activities. Since our grandson was with us this worked out great. We were near the jumping pad, ice cream social, train rides, mini golf and pool. Our location made it real nice. Wifi was good as were the hook ups with great water pressure. We found the campground to be extremely quiet and enjoyable. Staff was great and friendly but could do a little better cleaning sites as our fire pit had trash in it when we arrived. Unfortunately for us it is bee season and they swarmed the site when ever we were going to eat or someone opened a soda. We had to eat a few meals inside to get away from them. This is a nice campground for a quick getaway. We camped at Boston / Cape Cod KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Cold Springs Camp Resort, Weare, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $69.00
Overall Rating:

Great pool complex. Our site was plenty big enough, larger than many campgrounds we visit. Enjoyed a couple I've creams from the restaurant. Many seasonals with nice sites but they are some that are cluttered with too many tarps and canopies. The entertainment was enjoyable, loved the pool side music. Seven Maples Campground, Hancock, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Our first time here and I had read about the great donuts and the great owners. Well, on check-in I was told donuts are only available on holidays, which was disappointing, and I felt the owners were not that nice about the fact I asked about them. Anyway, we headed to our site which was easy to get into but with the length of our trailer I could not get it level. The site was on a hill and I backed up as far as I could go and lowered the front jack as far as it would go and we were still a bit unlevel. Anyway, all this aside, the place grew on me. After set up and dinner I went back to the office to check the pool times as they are not posted and was told 9:00, which was great. We had the older pool to ourselves so to cool off as everyone else was at the beautiful newer pool. Took a nice walk the next day and it is a real nice place. WiFi was a little slow and you need a password which I did not get. I guess it is written on the book they give you but mine was blank. Anyhow, since we were in the mountains and thunder storms started at 2, we were "lucky" and the mountains held the storms overhead for over 10 hours. Parts of the campground did flood, we went out to dinner rather than standing in puddles to cook. We plan to camp here again and hope that it is as enjoyable as the good parts of this weekend. We camped at Seven Maples Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Sebago Lake Family Campground, Standish, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This is a basic, rustic campground. We did not use the bathrooms so we cannot comment. The hookups at the site were fine and they included cable. There is no wifi at this campground. The site was good size but not real level. We left the trailer forward as the front was more level than the back so it worked ok. The biggest draw for this campground is the beach and the lake. It was a nice beach with plenty of sand and real nice clear water. It was very enjoyable the 2 days we used the beach. Will return for the beach along. The seasonal campers seemed friendly but some of the seasonal sites are very cluttered. We camped at Sebago Lake Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Kokatosi Campground, Raymond, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

We returned here for a 9 night stay. We moved sites after the first weekend which was a planned move to get closer to the lake. We like it here but there are a couple things that could improve. First the good, the lake was great and very clean. The pontoon rentals are nice, the staff is great, the snack bar and pizza is excellent. The beach was nice and the other campers were very friendly. The issues, some of the utilities need to be fixed or improved. The 30 amp plugs are cracked, the cable connects do not all work, the sewer can back up. My son went in the bathroom and said it was a mess, I did not see it but he used the trailer the rest of his stay. The speed of cars was a concern, 5 mph is posed but many drive 20 and possible 30. We reported this as there are a lot of kids around.

All in all we really enjoyed our week. We found the campground to be very quiet most nights and loved our time on the beach and swimming/floating in the lake. We will return. We camped at Kokatosi Campground in a Travel Trailer.
