Cape Disappointment State Park, Ilwaco, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Proximity to the beach is the star attraction. Unfortunately for us it was so windy it was not great. My wife would take the 5 minute walk over, but wouldn't stay because of the wind. I understand that weather is variable and have not downgraded the park because of this, just reporting our experience. The site we had was very nice, long asphalt pad with conveniently located hook ups that worked fine. There were some raised portions due to roots, but overall level. I mentioned the wind earlier, but the trees in the camping area we were in cut that to a gently breeze, so no mosquitos. We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The hiking trails are nice but do not originate in the camping area. Trailheads are only 1/2 to a mile away but you must walk along the road that has no shoulder to get to them.

Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area, Prospect, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Oregon State park now. The setting is very serene with scattered mature trees and a lot of open grassy space. Week days it was about 1/3 full, on the weekend mostly full, but not completely. There were large fires some distance away that caused a lot of smoke 3 of 4 days we were there. In fact there was a fire fighters base camp adjacent to but not in the park. When we were there the lake had been drawn down to a very low level. The banks were so steep that actually reaching the water was not possible except at the marina and beach area, a short drive away. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive up to Crater lake is very scenic, There are view points of the Rouge river at several points. Take the marked side road (about a 1/4 mile) to the Disappearing river point. The river, not running too rapidly in August goes underground into a lava tunnel and then re-emerges about 50 feet away.

Nehalem Bay State Park, Nehalem, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Oregon beach park in August, so if the crowds and kids bother you, you may not enjoy. It was completely full every night. We personally enjoy seeing the kids enjoying the family camping experience, reminds us of fun times earlier in life. There is a good variety of camp spots, some with no shade some with a lot. in general, the spots on the outside of the loops are longer and shadier than those on the inside of loops. We were in a mostly shady spot on the outside of loop A. Had to be very careful backing in because of low branches extending over the pad. The trees are all "sea pines" that don't get very high, but tend to spread their branches. Pads are 90 degrees to the relatively narrow roadway. Beautiful long wide beach. The walk over the dunes is on soft sand. Must add a note on the dumpsters. They are the type that incorporates a compactor to reduce volume. I understand the reasoning, but it leads to quite a strong smell that is quite evident in nearby camp spots. We camped at Nehalem Bay State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Tilamonk cheese factory can be a fun experience. We have been in years past and enjoyed it. It has greatly increased in visitations and now has extremely long lines. Would not return in peak summer periods.

Glendo Lakeside RV Park, Glendo, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Previous reviews are accurate. However the description as a large parking lot may mislead. The gravel appears to be washed river gravel so there is no dust. That is an advantage in this windy country. Even though we only stayed only one night, we enjoyed this park. Great views of wide open Wyoming. All utilities worked well. We camped at Glendo Lakeside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dam West Recreation Area COE, Carlyle, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice COE park with lots of shady spots that are VERY long. We stayed across from the main campground for only one night. It is listed in Recreation .gov as a back in, but is in fact a pull-thru. This may be an older section that is very small, about 10 sites. The pad was asphalt, had some ridges from underlying roots, but was level. We camped at Dam West Recreation Area COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Henrys Lake State Park, Island Park, Idaho

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Great state park. The area is a huge ice age cirque with mountains all around, beautiful lake in the center. Fantastic views in every direction. We were in the Blue Dun section which is the older, but prettier section. One caution, the bathrooms in this section were completely closed for renovation. Porta pottys located around campground. Staff said they were supposed to be complete a month ago. We camped at Henrys Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Colter Bay Village RV Park -- Full Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) , Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

The only reason to go here is that it is in the middle of the Teton National Park, and that makes it one of my favorites. Yes the sites are not level, it is always completely full, the bathrooms are old and not cleaned regularly, no cell coverage, no satellite reception, and I think overpriced. We were lucky to get a site near the bottom of the hill with a good view of Jackson lake with the Teton mountains looming just on the other side. The have a very thorough briefing when you check in about bear precautions, and then the dumpster nearest me did not close completely. We camped at Colter Bay Village RV Park -- Full Hookups (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

Absaroka Bay RV Park, Cody, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Previous reviews are accurate. All sites are diagonal pull-thru. Depending on the size of RVs in front and back I can how it could be a problem leaving. Some of larger motor homes did "hang out" into the roadway. We camped at Absaroka Bay RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Have been here several times and always enjoy it. Not sure about being here in the heat of summer, there is no shade. It has always been fully reserved when we were here. As others have stated, the Colorado policy of charging $7.00 a day to get into the park even though you have already paid the nightly fee for camping is a little annoying. Absolutely fantastic views. We camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

WaKeeney KOA, WaKeeney, Kansas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Good for what it is, nightly stopover close to interstate. Long level gravel site. All utilities worked properly, WIFI was good until evening when park filled up and then WIFI was marginal at best. Hot and very windy when we were there, so the "ice crème social" they have in the evening was enjoyable. We camped at WaKeeney KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Fleming Park / Lake Jacomo Campground, Blue Springs, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

As you can see from past reviews, ratings are quite variable. I come down on the side of lower ratings. Stayed one night and wouldn't come back. Site 27 is full hook-up, but not approaching level. It had rained and mud had washed down the hill and covered the gravel. I can see how locals who are familiar would be able to reserve one of the nicer sites, but reserving one site is really pot luck. I had asked when I made a reservation and was assured it was a "very nice spot" We camped at Fleming Park / Lake Jacomo Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Oak Grove Park (Military FamCamp), Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in one of the "Premium" sites. That means it is on the beach side of the interior campground road. Site is close to water but water is not visible because of vegetation. Beautiful white powder sand beach and nice water. When we were there, we never saw more than 5 people at any one time within 1/2 mile. It's very private and quiet. Fairview Riverside State Park, Madisonville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the "Premium" area, it is closer to the river. Enjoyed the stay, but it had recently rained and most everything that was not paved was muddy. Interior roads and asphalt pads are relatively narrow. Vehicles are allowed to park if at least 2 wheels are on the pavement, the result is a lot of mud on roads, and ruts along the side. Never were able to get a WIFI signal, but Verizon was good. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a nice tour of the home of the original property owners of the land. Home is on park property, our docent was quite good. Entire park was donated to the state by the estate of the former owner, a timber logging and saw mill operation.
