Fort Massac State Park, Metropolis, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Very enjoyable stay. Came for the Superman Celebration in Metropolis. Be aware that if you have a 50 amp unit, you need to request a 50 amp site. There were 2-30 amp sites that had been tampered with. Don't screw it up for someone else. Can create an electrical hazard. Campground host is very nice. Water not available at sites. Fill up before parking your rig, unless you have a long hose. Restrooms/showers have been updated in the last few years. Sites are fairly level. We'll definitely return when in the area. We camped at Fort Massac State Park in a Motorhome.

Camp Lakewood Campground & RV Park, Effingham, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

One night layover on our way to Southern Illinois. Sites close to each other, but enough room to put out awning and slides. Has a fire ring, but IMO too close to camper to use. Hosts very helpful and familiar with events in area. One street to campground is pretty rough, but host says it and 2 other streets near campground are going to be updated in the near future. Cable available, but could not get it to work in our section of campground. Informed host. Small camp store. Shopping and restaurants are nearby. We camped at Camp Lakewood Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Campground was mowed and well kept. Site was well shaded. Didn't have to use our awning. Water heater at rest rooms was not working. We had a problem with our slideout and the host advised us of area businesses that were able to help. Camped here for the Superman celebration. Will stay here again. We camped at Fort Massac State Park in a Motorhome.

Paynetown State Recreation Area, Bloomington, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2012 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed at site 174. Site was fairly clean, appeared to have been recently mowed. Quiet during week, but a little noisy on weekend. Did not mind as folks did not get unruly. Had very nice neighbors. Got rained on a couple different days, but we're in a drought, so rain is good. Watched the Perseid meteor shower with several people and the park Naturalist. Enjoyed our stay and will stay here again. We camped at Paynetown State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Restrooms currently have a new water heater, which they did not have 2 years ago. If you are going to use the showers, take a lawn chair with you to put your clothes on, as there are no benches or hooks in the shower area. Due to a flood at the campground, new power pedestals have been installed at some camp sites. The campground hosts are also new, very friendly and are out and about more often than the previous host. We were here for the Superman celebration in Metropolis and enjoyed our stay. No problems with the campground. We camped at Fort Massac State Park in a Motorhome.

Shakamak State Park, Jasonville, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2011 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean and quiet campsite. School is resuming this week, so there were mostly adults camping. Our site was level and graveled. Fire ring was clean and worked very well. Camp store was closed when we arrived on Sunday evening, but the attendant on duty directed us to Jasonville, where we were able to purchase a few supplies and fire wood. Did not have any issues concerning the campground or park. Rates are very reasonable. We camped at Shakamak State Park in a Motorhome.

Seasons in the Sun RV Resort, Mims, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2011 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent campground! We came to see the last shuttle go up, but could not get close to KSC. However, we had a very good view of the launch from here, about 5 miles away! Campground is well maintained and clean. Only 1 firepit for the entire campground, however. Hard to get used to (1 at every site where we usually camp up north). Staff answered all our questions regarding shopping in Mims and traveling in the Titusville area. We camped at Seasons in the Sun RV Resort in a Motorhome.

U.S. Space & Rocket Center RV Park, Huntsville, Alabama

Date of Stay: July, 2011 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here 1 night. We were directed to a site that had a damaged power pole. Covers were on the ground and "hot" wiring was exposed. Informed the campground host about it. He gave me some duct tape to tape the covers back on. I asked that we be given another site. He gave us another site that was next to the Space Camp activities. Not a problem. We enjoyed watching the children go through their training. Overall, we had a good time here. Our site did not have a fire ring or grill. Rest room door was propped open (either the AC did not work or there was none). We camped at U.S. Space & Rocket Center RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sherling Lake Park, Greenville, Alabama

Date of Stay: July, 2011 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 1 night. Our site was level and was across from the rest/shower rooms. We arrived late and did not meet the campground host until the following morning. Did not have a problem with the site. There is exposed wiring outside the rest/shower rooms. Needs to be addressed. Otherwise, I would have given this campground a 10. We camped at Sherling Lake Park in a Motorhome.

Ouabache Trails Park Campground, Vincennes, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2010 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is a well-maintained campground. Although most of the sites were occupied by construction workers (Duke Energy power house project going on in Edwardsport), our stay was very quiet. The restrooms and showers appear to have been recently renovated and are air-conditioned (a plus considering the average temperature during our stay was 95 degrees with high humidity). There is a pay laundry (2 washers and 2 dryers) attached to the restroom/shower building. My wife and I enjoyed our time here and plan on returning in the fall. We camped at Ouabache Trails Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Fort Massac State Park, Metropolis, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2010 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is the first time my wife and I have stayed here. The sites were mowed and the trails were maintained. The showers and restrooms did not have hot water available while we were here. Carried a roll of our TP with us to the restroom (was not always stocked). The campground host had a full time job in Metropolis, so he was only available in the late afternoon and evening. Campground had wood for sale, but it was lying on the ground, rotten and being sold by the piece (a "leave your money in the box" arrangement). I would recommend buying your campfire wood in Metropolis. Most stores sell it. Overall: we were very disappointed in this park. Not sure if we will return. We camped at Fort Massac State Park in a Motorhome.
