Walnut RV Park

Vega, Texas

Date of Stay:

Price paid includes the 50 amp surcharge. Good overnight stop while traveling I-40. Power is clean. Sites are long enough that we didn't have to unhook our towed. We will stay here again if we need hook ups but I feel that $25/night is over market value for this campground.

Date of Stay:

Rate reflects the Passport America discount. We stayed here for two nights while traveling. Sites are wide enough to allow slides. Parking is on gravel/grass and fairly level. The 50 amp circuit breaker for our assigned site tripped and wouldn't reset about 2 hours after we parked. Cashier was unable to contact the owner so we plugged into the power pedestal for the next site over. After that, had no problem running two air conditioners plus other appliances for the rest of our stay. This is a very convenient campground and we will definitely stay here again.

Date of Stay:

We have a 45' bus towing a mid size SUV, about 65' total length. After driving on surface streets too narrow us and another car to pass, we arrived at the campground to find the fence gate was too narrow to allow us to turn into the park. This was after driving through low hanging trees. If you really have a big rig, better to pass this one by.

Be sure to ask for the "billboard" rate of $18, Good Sam rate is higher. This is a real bargain for overnight travelers. Clean power, soft water and a good restaurant makes for a relaxing stop. RV park users are allowed to use the hotel pool. If you sign up for their casino card, you get $2 off your buffet daily.

For what it is, this is a great park! Remember, this is an overnight stopping place. Sites are clean, level, and large enough for privacy. We chose an end spot with a view of the mountains and stayed for several days. The campground offers a package deal for meal plus admission to two area attractions and we took advantage of this. One thing to be aware of is that this RV park is located on a reservation where alcohol is not allowed. At check in, the manager told me we were not allowed to have booze in the park, even in our private RV. This is not a problem for us. We like a park where there is no chance of loud drunks in the next site, but others might have a problem with this rule. The adjacent casino has a very good buffet featuring a variety of Native American dishes. I highly recommend the fry bread!

Price paid reflects a Passport America discount. We stopped for a short visit to allow us to see the Grand Canyon and extended our stay for another week. Pull-through sites were long enough for our 45' bus plus dinghy. Enough room between sites to accommodate slides. We loved the community grill area, there are four gas grills for anyone to use. RV guests are allowed to use the hotel pool and exercise room. Both are clean and well maintained. This will be a regular stop when we're in the area again.

Rate reflects Passport America discount. Nice overnight campground. Manager was friendly, knowledgeable and informative. This is an older campground inhabited mostly by year round tenants. Sites are tight but we parked a 45' bus in a pull-through. Very clean! I felt safe walking to a local restaurant approximately 5 minutes away. We will stay here again.

All previous comments about the campground are correct, it is lovely! But the infrastructure is poor at best. Wi-Fi was slow and a poor connection even less than 5 feet from the park antenna. The 30 amp power read between 101 and 108 volts. We have a 30 amp RV and still tripped the circuit breaker twice, even though we were running our refrigerator and water heater on propane. Customer service was also lackluster.

I don't understand the negative reviews. We camped here with our caravan and found it very nice! I'm posting this with the park Wifi, so obviously it works. We have a back-in site that is wide enough to park our towed car beside it and put out the slides. Park is quiet at "night", and we felt safe. Very good laundromat! We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends.

We camped here as part of a caravan. Would not stay again. Sites are small and unlevel. The site next to ours had no seating area so we had to share ours. Owner required guests to remove their shoes to use the laundry or meeting room! Wi-Fi signal is weak and Internet is very slow. We would have been happier staying in the parking lot of the local WalMart.

Date of Stay:

A bit over priced for what is offered. Sites are close together and not level. Management is fanatical about not parking on the grass, but most sites are not large enough to accomodate a medium coach with a small towed car. Many sites occupied by monthly residents who speed through the park. School bus picks up children in the morning, inhibiting departures. However, we would stay here again. It is a pretty and convenient location.

Date of Stay:

Over priced crowded "locals" campground. Sites were very tight and turns were difficult to maneuver. The campers next to us sat outside smoking constantly, keeping us from being able to open our windows. Would have been no problem if the sites were a bit wider. We would not stay here again.

Very nice park. I rated it 9 for an Alcan park, would have only been a 7 in other places. Good restaurant, great management and shady location. There is an RV wash at the back of the park, along with a group picnic area. We stayed here with a caravan so I'm not sure of the price. We would definitely stay here again! Be sure to see the museum while in town.

Stopped for an overnight stay but extended for a week. We needed a campground to stay while waiting for a storm to pass and this one is great. Office people are very friendly as are the seasonal residents. Fitness center is well equipped and clean. Cable TV at site but we did not use it. Our rig is 65' long, they accommodated us by parking us across two sites while only charging for one. We will definitely stay here again!

Gave it a "1" because there is no grade lower. Tried to stay here on 1/09/13, but when I went into the office to register, one woman was chatting on the phone and the other shushed me when I asked for a site. Guess they don't want over night clients! Also, we have a 45' Prevost and had difficulty getting out because of a newly erected sign that protrudes into the outbound travel lane. No really big rig friendly. Would definitely avoid this campground!
