Saco / Old Orchard Beach KOA, Saco, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We just left after spending the entire summer here for the third year in a row. They have made substantial improvements since last year and are planning on more over the winter. One of these improvements will be removing some more trees and possibly more sites that are truly big-rig friendly. We're already making plans to return next year for the season. There may be something better and cheaper, but we aren't willing to risk giving up on something that works perfectly for us. We camped at Saco / Old Orchard Beach KOA in a Motorhome.

Saco / Old Orchard Beach KOA, Saco, Maine

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We just got here today for the season. This place has been a favorite of our for a number of years. Last year when we left they were talking about improvements that they would be making over the winter. Well, they weren't kidding. The most obvious as we drove to our site was the fact that the main roads are now paved, not dirt and gravel as in the past. When the rains come we'll see how much of an improvement this is. Also, a LOT of the sites have been upgraded to 50 amp service and almost all of them are now full hook up. The pool area is extremely attractive now, with a hot tub as well. We'll have to walk around tomorrow to see what else in new, but what we've already seen impresses us greatly. They have taken something that we thought was pretty good and improved upon that. We're anxious to see what other improvements are made now that the winter is over and they have the weather to do the work that they want to do. We camped at Saco / Old Orchard Beach KOA in a Motorhome.

Terre Haute KOA, Terre Haute, Indiana

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is their third strike. First of all, the service wasn't bad, but it wasn't satisfactory either, so I chose to let previous visits influence my rating.

Our main issue today, and the final blow for them, is our cable reception. I recognize that when we pulled into our site I asked if it was satellite friendly and was told that it probably was not but I could move to another site that might be. It happens that it was the site we had a problem with before when they insisted that it was 50 amp, but it absolutely was not. I would have been more amenable to having been told that I must have been mistaken (but not receptive to that accusation), but to be told that I was wrong was unacceptable.

Today's issue is cable reception that is so snowy that we can barely see one of the networks. I was told that someone would come check it out, but 4 hours later there has been no sign of that "someone".

I hate to write this place off because of its location in our travels, but their customer service and attention/care of their customers has forced me to make that decision. There are other campgrounds in the area, and a WalMart less than 2 miles away. This is the last that they will see of us, and my recommendation to my friends will reflect that feeling.

Sorry KOA this place doesn't deserve the President's or Founder's awards. We have stayed in Passport America campgrounds who care more about their campers than the service we've received in this campground. We camped at Terre Haute KOA in a Motorhome.

Springfield KOA, Rochester, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Like others have said, a bit off the interstate, but not really that far. After hours check-in is easy as previously stated, unless someone else is ignorant to campground etiquette and takes your assigned spot. That isn't mostly the fault of the campground, although we have been in plenty of them who go to the effort of listing the available sites in the after-hours box. This time it wasn't a problem, but with medical equipment it easily could have been. Power is good, and water pressure is good. Our site is satellite friendly, although their website led us to believe that it wouldn't be. Having said that, we will more than likely return, making sure that we arrive during office hours. Our assigned site would have made tomorrow morning's egress from our site much, much easier. We camped at Springfield KOA in a Motorhome.

Saco / Old Orchard Beach KOA, Saco, Maine

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We bit the bullet and stayed for the entire summer. We were hoping that the new owners would do what they promised. By the time we left they had started a new, bigger pool, were updating all of the physical facilities, and were talking numerous additional lodges as well as larger sites for big rigs in previously unused property. We're already signed up for next summer, and look forward to seeing the improvements that are already in progress, and those that are promised. We camped at Saco / Old Orchard Beach KOA in a Motorhome.

Sandusky / Bayshore KOA , Sandusky, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Just here overnight, but don't think that we would return. The only reason for that is that the sites are really, really narrow. Previous posters had said that, but I couldn't imagine that they were this narrow. Ours also had two trees at the entry, site 86, which could cause some problems. This site was also supposed to be satellite friendly, but the dome couldn't find a satellite after 10 minutes. Other than those complaints, there is nothing of substance to not recommend this place, It just isn't right for us. Staff was friendly, it's close to the end of their season, everything works well, just not right for us in the future. We camped at Sandusky / Bayshore KOA in a Motorhome.

We have stayed here before and were looking forward to our return this year. We were surprised to learn that the previous owners had suddenly sold the campground, but were relieved to find that the managers from last year were being kept as managers by the new owners. That gave us a good feeling of continuity, which, when we checked in at the campground was confirmed. The new owners are promising improvements to the campground which will take it to the next level, in our opinion. The minor issues that most complain of are some of those that are promised. We'll see. But for now, we're just as happy as we have been in the past with the campground, and will willingly come back to see what improvements have been made. We camped at Saco / Old Orchard Beach KOA in a Motorhome.

Terre Haute KOA, Terre Haute, Indiana

Date of Stay: May, 2014 - $43.00

What a disappointment. We had stayed here before and were looking forward to a return. The campground itself is worth a return visit if necessary, but I doubt that we will return. That said, the reason for that decision is twofold. First, the site we were assigned, and had reserved, showed on their map and computer as a 50 amp site, but was only a 30 amp. On this trip it wasn't a real concern, but health issues in warmer weather would have required 50 amps for air conditioning and medical equipment. I was met with denial about the 30 amp issue, and met with the accusation that I was wrong. The second issue was the rudeness of one of the staff when going to breakfast at the on-site restaurant. Where a simple explanation of the health code not allowing you to bring the cup of coffee into their dining room would have sufficed, we were rudely told that we could not do it, and belittled for trying it. Simple people skills would have dictated a different approach. That employee will assure that, unless there is no other campground within our travel limits, we won't return. That's a shame, because of it's convenience, but that treatment makes us not willing to return. I would have rated the campground as a 7 or 8 had these issues not occurred. but I believe, under the circumstances, a 5 is generous. We camped at Terre Haute KOA in a Motorhome.

Homerville KOA (formerly Wild Wood Lakes), Homerville, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

While the staff was very friendly and helpful, we were taken aback when the staff member leading us to our site asked where we had been placed. When we told him, he asked if we would object to being placed in a site that was level. Given that, and the fact that they are so far off the beaten path and damned near impossible to retrace your steps to the Interstate, we wouldn't return. Unless, like this visit, we needed a place to stay, that had decent reviews and was in the time frame that we needed for our trip. We camped at Homerville KOA (formerly Wild Wood Lakes) in a Motorhome.

Terre Haute KOA, Terre Haute, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

The park is really nice, with ample, level sites, but not what I have come to expect from the recipient of a Founders Award. Our site was one of the patio sites, and was not anything close to the other patio sites we have experienced. Throwing in a table with an umbrella, and putting some pavers down, really doesn't make the site that special. When they say that the site has a grill, we expect a gas grill, as we have experienced on more than one occasion. We have stayed in KOA's where every site has a charcoal grill on a post, and some of them don't have any type of award from KOA. Having said this, we would return if our schedule dictated so, but this wouldn't be a campground of choice. We camped at Terre Haute KOA in a Motorhome.

Sundermeier RV Park, Saint Charles, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2013 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Overall this campground is a keeper. Our only major complaints were the fact that the site to which we were assigned had no electricity, but we moved to another site. A petty complaint is that they have Tengonet. It's free but it's Tengonet. We would absolutely come back for a night or few. We camped at Sundermeier RV Park in a Motorhome.
