Country Oaks RV Park & Campground, Kingsland, Georgia

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Our first stay. It's rustic with a western flair. Close to the Interstate but not a lot of highway noise. As it was just an overnight stay, I can't comment on area recreation, restaurants or campground amenities. Would return. We camped at Country Oaks RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Western Village RV Park, Carlisle, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night while traveling through the area. Somewhat rustic campground but an enjoyable stay away from the hustle and bustle of the area. We made reservations and were told that, if we'd be arriving after 4:00 PM, to call to give them our approximate arrival time. Apparently, the office is normally closed at that time. The office staff was very welcoming and gave us good directions to find our site. As we wanted a pull through, two sites were assigned making up a long pull through site. The restrooms were immaculate - even at three o'clock in the afternoon and 8:00 in the morning. There is plenty of room for walking if one is so inclined and there is no need to leave the campground to walk. There are several things for children to do. There is also an ice cream stand in the campground. We really enjoyed our short stay and will return when we are in the area. We camped at Western Village RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Near the city of Carlisle with good access to two interstate highways. There is a great restaurant just up the road from the entrance that serves just about anything you'd like. It's also near Gettysburg, Harrisburg, and other tourist attraction.

Lee Hi Campground, Lexington, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is a barebones campground on the hill behind a truck stop. There are multiple sites - pull thru and back in. The pull thrus are full hookup, not sure about the back ins. The shower building is concrete block and is not anything fancy but is utilitarian. It's a great place to stop for overnight or for a few days while visiting the area. If you are hungry, there is a full service restaurant at the foot of the hill and the food is great (of course - it's a truck stop and you know they say to look for the trucks when you are looking for a place to eat). They do take reservations but usually have space if you just stop in passing through. There is a fair amount of truck noise as most of the overnight trucks keep their engines running, but it is not bothersome. We would stay again. We camped at Lee Hi Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Country Acres Campground, Ravenna, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is primarily a summer residence park apparently with some overnight/short term sites. We stayed for 3 nights and were ready to leave after 1 night had we not had plans in the area. When reservations were made, I was quoted the Passport rate for all three nights then, when we checked in, was told that a mistake was made and I would have to pay full price for all but 1 night. There was a sign at the gate telling campers to switch to propane on refrigerators to reserve electric for air conditioners due to excess heat in area. All over the campground were Christmas decorations that were lit and/or inflated with electric pumps. Where are the priorities? The restrooms were a joke. There were at least two buildings with restrooms but most were locked all weekend. The one building with restrooms that was open was disgusting. Overflowing waste containers, no paper towels most of the weekend, lack of adequate toilet paper, one of two showers locked from the inside on our arrival. The evening before we left, the waste receptacle in the ladies' room had been emptied and the paper products restocked. Quiet hours were not maintained - we were kept awake most of the night with loud voices coming from the tent site next to us. The train that went through two or three times a night was quiet by comparison. The dump station that was most easily accessible required that we go the wrong way on a one way road to access it. The second station would have required that we go to nearly the end of the camping areas to an open field to turn around after dumping. We would not return. We camped at Country Acres Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Camp Bell Campground, Campbell, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We usually stay at Camp Bell when visiting family in the area. The hosts have always been great. There are a lot of activities going on all the time. They also make their campground pavilion available for a summer area child program with free lunches through a county program. They do not have 50 amp sites nor do they have any full hookup sites available. It is a great campground for short stays and there are occasionally long term sites available. We used the Passport America discount for most of our stay and, on days when Passport couldn't be used (weekends), we were able to use our Good Sam discount. Some changes could be made in the rest rooms - more hooks for hanging clothing, etc. in the showers (many were broken or there were an insufficient number). The bathrooms have been painted since our last visit but little things like hooks, a chair in the handicapped shower, etc. would be nice. We would definitely return. We camped at Camp Bell Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Shenandoah Valley Campground, Mount Jackson, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Our second visit. It was previously a Passport America park but they have dropped their P/A membership which, in my estimation, creates an over-priced park. There is a nice pool, a playground, and one can get meals, but that is available in many other parks for less money. The only thing going for it is its proximity to many of the tourist attractions. On our last visit, we didn't notice much highway noise but many of the trees that created a noise buffer zone between the park and the highway have been removed and it is really noisy with the truck traffic. Once some of the trees in the park have grown up it may be better but we are looking for another park as a stopping off point on our way north. We might stop again but that is not a certainty. Our site was level and offered full hookup and cable. We camped at Shenandoah Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Ripplin Waters Campground, Sevierville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We had stayed here several years ago and were not impressed but decided to stay while we were in the area this year. What a difference. Nearly a 180 degree turn-around. The campground was well-tended, the office staff very helpful, the restrooms had been cleaned up and painted and we really enjoyed our stay. The entire area has changed with its proximity to Pigeon Forge and The Great Smokies National Park. Exercise patience - the highway is under construction so you may be in traffic for some time, both getting to and leaving the RV park. We would return. We camped at Ripplin Waters Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

River Town Campground, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived after many days of rain had saturated the Southeast. When we got to our assigned space, the power pedestal was standing in water. A call to the office and we were advised to by the staff to find a nearby site that was not in use, call for verification that it was not reserved and move to that site. We found that the campground staff was most responsive to campers' needs and was very helpful. It is an older campground and needs some work but the staff is working on it and there were obvious signs of that. The campground is well-maintained. There are several long term campers. We would return. We camped at River Town Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Texarkana RV Park & Event Center, Texarkana, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a new park and fully handicapped accessible. Even the showers are designed to allow a wheelchair-bound individual to roll right in. That said, there is no soap or towels in the restroom/shower rooms. Also, they are removing all grass and putting gravel in its place. For these reasons I didn't rate the park a 10. Sites are spacious and there are some sites dedicated to long-term campers. All staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful little duck pond and a gazebo where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the ducks. There is a fair amount of highway and train noise. We would definitely return. Overnite RV Park, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stay at this park whenever we're crossing Texas on the Panhandle. The GPS takes you to the correct area but tells you it is on the right side of the road when it is actually on the left. Signage is not the best. It has become rather isolated by construction in the area and isn't as inviting as it once was due to the removal of trees in the surrounding area. Note: there is an Air Force base nearby and you will hear air traffic at all hours as well as trains. We would stay again if we return to the area. We camped at Overnite RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

We stay at this campground whenever we are in the area. Most sites are pull through and most are full hookups. Also, most sites are level. I do not believe they have any 50 amp sites but, with a "dogbone" and caution with your electrical needs, you can manage nicely with the 30 amp hookups.

The office staff is very helpful and, if the owner is at the desk (as she often is), very knowledgeable about the area and local history. There is a Camping World nearby for all your camping needs. We would definitely return. We camped at Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post in a Fifth Wheel.

Visit Old Town Albuquerque, drive on old Route 66 through the center of town, and head north to Santa Fe (about an hour away by car - or take the train from Albuquerque). The Turquoise Trail is nearby but can be difficult to travel if there has been a lot of rain. The annual Balloon Festival draws a lot of visitors so be sure to make reservations if you are visiting at that time of year.

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We reserved a site for 6 days and ended up staying 7. The park is very nice despite the lack of shade trees (it is high desert so that's not unexpected). It is a retirement community and has camping for short or long term. The staff is very helpful and an escort is provided to your site. The office does close early. Pull through and back in sites are available. There's plenty of room for walking without getting outside the park. We enjoyed our stay and would return. Benson is a small town but has a Super Walmart and several other stores. There are the usual souvenir shops. It's within an hour's drive of Bisbee (there's an old copper mine there) and Tombstone - both of which are on the National Register of Historic Places - as is Fort Huachuca, also nearby. If you wish to explore further afield, the office has a list of places to visit, including the final stronghold of Cochise! It's a very relaxing place to stay.

Midessa Oil Patch RV Park, Odessa, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park. It is clean and meticulously cared for. Plenty of shade trees and they are trimmed of low hanging branches. Regular watering of those trees adds to their attractiveness. The sites are mostly pull-through and are matched to the camper that will be occupying that site. It seems to be the nicest campground in the area. I would have rated it higher except for one thing that has been noted before. Due to a high nitrate level, the State has said that the water is not to be used for cooking or drinking. Each camper is given a case of bottled water when they check in and is instructed to use it for those purposes. If they need more, they just have to go to the office and ask. The water is furnished by the State so campers don't find it as a hidden cost in their fees. A permanent solution is being investigated. That said, we enjoyed our overnight stay and, had we not had reservations at another campground the next night, would have stayed an extra day. We will definitely return if we are in the area again. We camped at Midessa Oil Patch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

There is not a lot of recreation in the area because of the location of Midessa (between Odessa and Midland - both of which have restaurant and stores).
