About Leo Millward

Whilst I own a home and 3 businesses in England, I spend 6 to 8 months a year in the USA - traveling around with my Ford F450 King Ranch & DRV Mobile Suites Estate 39RESB3 5th wheel. My travelling lifestyle makes it difficult to maintain regular friendships so I like to get out and about and meet people via Meetup, Spice, Ramblers etc. I would like to make friends with people outside of the RV community too especially as I am aiming to buy property in the USA at some point.

Singing Hills RV Park & Campground, Cave City, Kentucky

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

I really liked this park. The owners were especially friendly and welcoming with an efficient check in service and a clear willingness to help if any issues were to arise. Although my rig is 63' long, I found it easy to get on to my site and easy to leave, too. This campground is not a high end paved road, concrete sited facility with all mod cons - but sometimes simpler is better and I certainly felt this was the case here. The campground is easy to find, well placed for local activities and had a general 'feel good' factor with friendly people (campers and RVers alike). The site is very green with nice sunsets, plenty of birds, a small catch and release pool, and a very friendly office moggy imaginatively (?) called 'CAT 1' - I never say any more cats while there! I would certainly stay here again. We camped at Singing Hills RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Avalon RV Resort, Clearwater, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2013 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

I can't say that I agree with their web site when it says "A premier RV resort located in the heart of Florida", as it's actually quite a tired campground just off US 19, mostly occupied with old trailers and park homes. They DO keep it tidy though and it has a big recreation room with lots of activities over the winter season. The pool is small and quiet but suited me fine and the restrooms opposite my site/by the pool were okay and clean but very dated and worn. We camped at Avalon RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Quail Roost RV Campground, Crystal River, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2013 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Very well looked after campground with easy access and spotless restrooms, recreation room etc. Very well equipped campground and perfect for long term 'snowbird' stays. The only tiny criticism I have is that the Wi-Fi signal is fairly weak (was the same on my last stay here in February) - could do with a booster. Ideally located in between Crystal River and Dunnellon for lots of things to see and do. We camped at Quail Roost RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Woods-n-Water Trails RV Park, Mount Dora, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Very tidy and well maintained RV park in Belen Eustis and the lovely Mount Dora. Extremely welcoming and friendly manager and owners too - who dropped off local newspapers daily to me (unasked) as they knew I was a 'Brit' looking to buy a home/business in the US. The only tiny criticisms I have are that the Wi-Fi is very weak even in the recreation room and camp office - and the access was never on in the recreation room although I expect it is during the snowbird season when the campground is close to full occupancy by travelers and snowbirds. Would definitely stay here again! We camped at Woods-n-Water Trails RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Quail Roost RV Campground, Crystal River, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2013 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Immaculate RV park well situated in between the towns of Crystal River and Dunnellon. The staff are extremely efficient and professional and a credit to the business. The park is beautifully maintained and has a great club room, recreation room, games area, fire pit, heated pool, and mini gym. The staff and the campers here have been amongst the most friendly and welcoming I have experienced. I did have a little trouble with the free Wi-Fi at my site for 3 days but could easily get a signal at the office or Club Room. On the 4th day the Wi-Fi at my site became easily available so the park then became faultless. I will definitely stay here again. We camped at Quail Roost RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Angler's RV Campground (formerly Rainbow Country RV Campground), Cedar Key, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2013 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Quite a rustic site (no paved roads or concrete pads for RVs) but it has character, is quiet, has lots of bird life, and very friendly staff and campers. It's about 6 miles from Cedar Key town so that and the fact that its not a modern site probably accounts for the extremely reasonable rates (for the area). Services were all good except for Wi-Fi which was weak, but that may have been because I was on the extremities of the park. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Angler's RV Campground (formerly Rainbow Country RV Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

South Padre Island KOA, South Padre Island, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2013 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

This is a VERY expensive campground unless you can commit to a month or more so I expected the best of the best. I was prepared to pay a 'premium' to stay here for a week as a reasonable standard can generally be guaranteed of KOA sites and I wanted time to get my bearings. It was nicely situated less than half a mile from the beach and it was clean, well laid out, with good range of facilities and close to town. However, the Wi-Fi was very poor on various channels and the close proximity to the coast meant it was that extremely windy. After just a week, their was a film of salt on many outside surfaces so it would pay to give your rig a deep clean during and if not, certainly after you move on to prevent rust issues. Winter Texan entertainment was quite lacking - even when compared to smaller sites and that was surprising given the holiday season. I would not stay here again. We camped at South Padre Island KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountain View RV Park, Huachuca City, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2012 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Nice welcome and the rate is for Passport America with a maximum of 2 nights on it. Many long termers on site and a good activity program - with a campground that is immaculate (often not the case with long term). Wi-Fi was lighting fast even though I was as far away from the Office as possible - putting many campground subscription Wi-Fi to shame! Quiet site about 15 minutes drive from nearby town and all it's offerings - and easy driving to a number of tourist hotspots. Will stay here again! We camped at Mountain View RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Valley Vista RV Resort, Benson, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2012 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Nicely located for all sorts of local attractions including Tombstone, The Thing, Bisbee, Picacho State Park, etc. Facilities are all as described and everything worked well. What really makes this a great place to camp is the commitment of the staff. The welcome was great. Nothing was too much trouble. They went out of their way to get you involved in the great activity program, and there was something going on almost every day! Will definitely return. We camped at Valley Vista RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Wild West Ranch and RV Resort (formerly John Wayne RV Ranch), Maricopa, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2012 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

If you want to avoid the mega sites of Casa Grande where you're just a number and there to make profit for them - you should consider this campground. It's within easy reach of Casa and Maricopa, close to local small grocery stores and restaurants, but right in the desert with amazing sunsets, peace and quiet. The staff here are really friendly and once again, staff attitude proved to be a winner and helped make this dusty basic campground into a special destination. We camped at Wild West Ranch and RV Resort (formerly John Wayne RV Ranch) in a Fifth Wheel.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort, Oceanside, California

Date of Stay: December, 2011 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

It may look a little pricy but it's just a few minutes walk to the beach and there's nearly always a premium to pay for that convenience. The campground is REALLY well maintained and the guys doing that job were very efficient and friendly. It was typical to come back from a day at the beach to find they had nicely raked the grit next to the concrete pad so it was immaculate. The campground is easily accessed from the main road (not too busy or noisy) running along the front. There's a railway station just a few miles north AND south allowing us to take inexpensive and pleasant trips down to San Diego where we could see the city and old town on foot and by trolley bus. This is a great location of you want a myriad of beach choices and great things to do nearby - and the town of Oceanside is really cute. We camped at Paradise By The Sea RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Bay Pines RV Home, Morro Bay, California

Date of Stay: December, 2011 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Really lovely people here. Site was a bit tight to back onto (38 footer) but made it fine with the help of one of the hosts. Nice and quiet site but easy to get to off the freeway and close to the State Park, beaches and town. Lots to see in the area and would definitely stay here again. Casa De Fruta RV Orchard Resort, Hollister, California

Date of Stay: October, 2011 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Huge site with easy access and lots of facilities on site such as pool, restrooms, laundry, shop, restaurant, fuel, etc. Great site for big groups (I went with the Carriage Travel Club) as they have the space to cater for them and do a fair group deal which they extend after the rally promoting extended stays there. Very friendly staff in the office who helped me out with some printing when my printer died (at no charge). We camped at Casa De Fruta RV Orchard Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Monterey Fairgrounds, Monterey, California

Date of Stay: October, 2011 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Tight to get in and out of many spaces especially when busy but the camp host was a really friendly and efficient guy who seemed more than happy to help anyone out. Basic campground but really close to Monterey and lots of great things to do - and MASSIVELY less expensive than all the other RV sites on this coastline. Just drive REALLY slowly in and out as it's very easy to drag rear jacks/RV undercarriage on the asphalt due to water drainage channel creating a dip. We camped at Monterey Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Kit Fox RV Park, Patterson, California

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Smart and clean small well kept RV site with friendly staff. Nice recreation room/kitchen/lounge with books, videos and DVD's to borrow. Had problems acquiring my 50% Passport America discount online and had to claim refund at the site after arrival. I did not report on the campground right away as I thought I would see if they if they would follow through and do something about this for future bookings - and they have!! Makes a nice change to find a site that acknowledges and an issue like this and then fixes it as promised! We camped at Kit Fox RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
