Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park, Vandalia, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Everything in the previous review is correct. Wanted to add a few more details. The sites (except #8) are basically back-ins but you can pull-thru to your site by driving down to the end of the row and pulling thru an empty site. That way you will drive along the back side of the RV sites & then be able to pull-thru to your site. Electric was excellent with 50/30/20 amp connections. Nice hardware store (owners of the RV Park) across the street. Be sure to ask at the hardware store for some tokens to "feed the dragon" to get him to breathe fire! Very quiet & peaceful at night. No restrooms available. We camped at Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park in a Motorhome.

Site#8 is NOT a pull-thru site. All other sites are pull-thru/back-in sites. I did find that online reservations are now available via the Reserve America website. There was a $5 fee to make an online reservation. Nice laundry mat & car wash with pet wash directly across the street, too.

Coleman RV Park, Brownfield, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Basic municipal RV park located within the Coleman City Park built by the WPA in '38-'40. 14 pull-thru sites. All sites have 30-amp receptacles w/ water faucet. There are two 50-amp electric boxes site# 2A & 2B (the 2nd site behind the yellow info kiosk). We arrived on a 100+ degree day & ran our four 15,000 BTU A/C's with no problems plugged into the 50-amp receptacle. We noticed just about all of the other Rv's plugged into the 30-amp receptacles had to reset their circuit breaker often. Voltage did drop to 110 VAC in the heat of the afternoon on 1 leg, but the other leg stayed at 123 VAC. Large dump station easy to access on the way out. The parking lot is a mix of dirt & gravel (more dirt than gravel). Sign posted stating 5-day stay limit. Nice grassy park to walk your dog. AT&T internet good strong signal - achieved a 10 mbps D/L speed. Donation box by dump station. We camped at Coleman RV Park in a Motorhome.

Valley of Fires Recreation Area (BLM), Carrizozo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $9.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent BLM campground. We stayed on Site# 8 which is a large pull-thru site overlooking the Valley of Fires. Fairly level with slight uphill slope; easy to level our 45' motorcoach. Site was right next to electric transformer, so had excellent voltage even when temps hit 100 degrees running our four 15,000 BTU A/C's. If you need to use the dump station, it is located on the ingress side as you enter the camping area. That being said, dump before you enter your RV site or you will have to turn around. The 3/4 mile walk thru the lava flow is very interesting. Will stay here again! We camped at Valley of Fires Recreation Area (BLM) in a Motorhome.

Onapa RV Park and Campground, Checotah, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Very easy to access from US 69. We turned westward onto Onapa Rd about a mile. On Hwy 69, there is a blue RV Park sign. RV park is on the left. Good signage. We had emailed our reservation request about a week ago and was promptly answered by Shannon (owner). We were in site# 12 which was a long pull-thru site. No trees on our site. We did not have to unhook our towed. Water tasted excellent. Electric strong utilities easy to access. The sewer connection was toward the rear of the site, which is where is should be. There is Wi-Fi in the park, but we did not use it. We use AT&T & Verizon for internet, of which both carriers had a strong data signal. Verizon cell telephone service was excellent (it showed that I was roaming). They had a nice area for a campfire and they also sell firewood. Pet friendly RV Park. Very quiet RV Park. An above ground swimming pool is available during the summer season. Very neat & clean. Overall, very nice family owned & managed RV Park. We would definitely stay here again! We camped at Onapa RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Lambert's Cafe RV Park (formerly Stage Stop RV Park), Ozark, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

I initially got confused because when I clicked on the link to Stage Stop RV Park it took me to a website for an RV Park with a different name. I guess it's now one and the same. Google search shows "Family owned and operated since 1999!". Anyway, we got here. Like the website picture shows, it's one big limestone parking lot. Limestone parking lot is very clean. Good hook-ups & strong electric. We were in Site#25 in the front row. Excellent site. Did not try the WiFi as we have AT&T and VZW for wireless data, which both had a strong connection & fast data rates. Our voice cell with VZW was excellent. All RV sites are "first come, first served" unless a reserved sign is placed on the post. So when you arrive, you look at available sites & park your RV. I would suggest a site further away from the back side of the restaurant as there are LOTS of VERY BRIGHT restaurant parking lot lights that made those RV sites closer to the restaurant look like daytime when it got dark outside. There is a small office where you get your registration envelope to place your payment (cash or check only) and drop it in the slot at the small office. I never saw anyone at the small office. We plan to dine at Lambert's, but have not made it yet. Locals say go on an empty stomach as they will bring you more servings of your entree if you want. I did ask about receiving mail and was told that we could receive mail & that it would be brought to our site. We stayed at Stage Stop RV Park for 2 weeks exploring the area. When in the area, we would return here again! We camped at Lambert's Cafe RV Park (formerly Stage Stop RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Locals say "Eat at Lambert's - home on the throwed rolls". Six miles to the west is the town of Nixa which has the Christian County Discount Freight & Grocery Outlet. Check out their Facebook page for some excellent buys on grocery & freight. We found Campbell's Tomato or Chicken Noodle Soup for $12/case - that's less than half the price at a grocery store! Not damaged cans either. LOTS of very good buys.

Redman Creek Campground COE, Wappapello, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

This review is for the East Loop. The rate reflects a 50% Senior Pass discount. In my opinion, for seniors wanting a "quieter stay", I would suggest the East Loop sites 1 thru 40. There were many more families with children on the West Loop which is stites 41 thru 109. Most of the sites are fairly level. Our site#32 was long enough for a 45' motorhome. At the end of the site is a concrete stop that if necessary, most RV's can back-over to let the tires stop/rest at the tire stop. We did this & had plenty of room. I think the east loop sites were spaced-out better than the west loop sites. Check in is done in the Fee Booth, which is located on the west loop. Because I had reservations, and knew my site number, I parked the coach then drove over and checked in a couple of hours later. This campground (East & West Loops) allow for same-day reservations with Reservation.gov We had made advance reservations, but I wanted to share with others of this reservation policy for Redmond Creek COE. Our cellular internet is with AT&T and VZW - both had strong signals & good voice quality with VZW. When we arrived, there was a no potable water "boil alert" posted at the entrance of the C/G. I did not receive advance notification of this warning. I sent Recreation.gov an email inquiring if they had received notification of no potable water "boil alert". I got a reply email from stating that Recreation.gov had not received any type of notice of the no potable water "boil alert" from the agency (US Army Corps of Engineers) that administers Redmond Creek C/G. We did not connect to the water during our 3 night stay. Luckily for us our motorhome had a full tank of potable water for us to use during our 3 night stay. Recreation.gov has sent an notification to USACE Redmond Creed admin. inquiring into our complaint. We camped at Redman Creek Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Across the street from the restaurant in Wappapello named Crabb & Company is log cabin that sells campfire firewood VERY REASONABLE. We got LOTS of dry wood in nice-sized pieces that made for a perfect campfire for $5.00! After hours, they have an honor box on the left side of the log cabin. The log cabin is maybe a 2 mile drive just south of the campground on Hwy T. They owner was so helpful & friendly he helped load my firewood!

Percival Springs Airport & RV Park, Watson, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is on the grounds of the Percival Springs Airport. Traveling east on I-70, I exited at exit# 159, W. Fayette Ave. - there is a Petro Truck Stop at that exit. Turn right (east) onto W. Fayette Ave. until you come to US-45. Turn right (south) onto US-45 and travel about 7.5 miles south on US-45. When you see County Road 700N, it's the next driveway on the left. I did not count the number of RV sites, but I would say a good 25 or 30 sites. All FHU with newer 50/30/20 electric pedestal. Voltage was excellent. Water had a little bit of mineral taste, but I filter my water, so no problems. Long gravel sites in excellent condition. All pull-thru sites. Very quiet - I even heard the corn growing! When we arrived, we were greeted by a "camp host", very friendly and took our $25 cash fee. Overall, an excellent campground where you will enjoy much peace & quiet. We stayed at the campground the end of June, 2017. We camped at Percival Springs Airport & RV Park in a Motorhome.

St. Vrain State Park, Longmont, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

When making an online reservation for St. Vrain SP, we noticed that you could only enter an RV length as 40' or less. When we received the reservation confirmation, it stated RV maximum length of 45'. The reason I state this is, we have a 45' motorhome and was concerned that we would be turned away having completed a reservation for a 40' motorhome. Every full-hookup site at St. Vrain SP can easily accommodate a 45' RV. All of the FHU sites are pull-thru with a concrete pad. The WSE hookups were placed correctly and our 50-amp pedestal provided ample strong voltage on a 100 degree day. The campground is well laid-out but watch for the big boulders that cordoned off the perimeter of your RV site. Water pressure was very high. Beautiful views of the ponds that surround the State Park. And the snow-capped mountain views are fantastic. We camped at St. Vrain State Park in a Motorhome.

Hidden Valley RV Park, Del Rio, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We have a large, back-in site that was very private - our own privacy fence. Very quiet park at the end of the street, so no road noise. All utilities were excellent. Water pressure was very high, so do use a pressure regulator. Electric was good - pedestals have 50/30/20 amp. Owner & manager both very pleasant. They have WiFi, but I did not use it. AT&T 4G was excellent. Sites are shaded, which is very nice. Tree limbs trimmed. Cable TV was very good & clear. The Wash House has a lounge area for relaxing on back porch and for rocking and lots of good washers & dryers. The RV park is a bit off the main highway, so we called the park and the owner met us out on the highway & led us in. She and her father started this tradition and it was very much appreciated! We camped at Hidden Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

R.J. RV Park, Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Rate we paid was $170/week for FHU 50-amp. It was HOT HOT HOT when we stayed at RJ RV Park and the electric was excellent: voltage never dropped below 118 VAC. Owner recently upgraded underground electric cable and I could tell the difference! Our site #28 was a long pull-thru that had a nice concrete patio. We had excellent WiFi (no extra charge). Some sites have cable TV, but our site did not. Very nice neighbors: year round residents, most of which are retirees and veterans.

Great location, I-25, exit 75, go 1.3 miles on Broadway and RV Park is on the left. Look for big yellow sign. Larger RV's best suited for "on top of the hill" - very long pull-thru sites can accommodate any size RV. Easy in & out. Exit on top of the hill has no dips & exits onto paved city street. A right turn will take you back to I-25. Don't turn left as there is a concrete divider and will take you to a busy downtown area. On site managers very friendly and helpful. Pet friendly - RV park has a pet walk area. We will definately stay here again! We camped at R.J. RV Park in a Motorhome.

The city of Hot Springs (T or C) is lots of fun to explore. Choose from 10 bath houses, some historic and some modern. I liked Riverside Baths with the 5 common pools, sauna, free coffee all day long, and the ambient lighting is absolutely beautiful at night. Soak your troubles away watching the flowing waters of the Rio with the mountains as a backdrop.

Go visit a classic old-west Ghost Town. Chloride is very historic, has a Pioneer Store Museum & gift shop with gallery and picnic tables.

Historic Chloride is a classic, old west ghost town that happens to have a RV Park with 5 full hookup sites - four spaces are pull-through, and can accommodate any size RV. Roadrunner RV Park, El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older RV park that has been recently bought & is in the process of being updated. When we arrived, 3 new rows of utilities had been completed. New electric pedestals (50/30/20), new underground pop-up cover for water connection, new sewer lines. I think each row had 20 sites. Sites nicely spaced, easy to navigate & make wide turns with big rigs. We were here during 90+ degree weather & the electric voltage was strong during the heat of the day - never dropped below 115 VAC. I think there is cable TV, but did not try it. Planned is a salt-water swimming pool. Pool is there, just not open at this time. There is a laundry on site, as well as RV service & a RV supplies available in the office. Owner & his wife very nice & helpful. I believe he is a retired police officer. Not much highway noise - about 2 block from the interstate. Excellent choice of restaurants and a Super Wal-Mart across the street. Will definitely return again! We camped at Roadrunner RV Park in a Motorhome.

Marathon Motel and RV Park, Marathon, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Rate was based on a weekly rate of $140. If you stay less than a week, nightly rate is $35. If you want to extend you stay an extra night or two, the nightly rate of $35 applies. The RV park itself is nothing but a big wide open gravel lot. When you go to make a resv. online, the rates were the same for 30-amp or 50-amp electric. If you choose the 30-amp, you will get older electric pedestals not too good condition. Choose the 50-amp which are new pedestals with the standard 20/30/50 outlets. Also the 50-amp sites are on the 2nd row and further away from the highway noise. They only have 2 rows of RV sites and a couple "way out in the back" near where the owner lives. I do not know how to reserve those sites (maybe by phone vs their online reserve. system. The motel side of the property is beautifully landscaped with nice ambient lighting at night. They have a very nice outdoor fireplace in the landscaped motel side of the property - RV guests are welcomed there, too. Cable TV was fair. Wireless internet was good. AT&T 4G internet which was excellent fast. VZW 3G internet was fair. The electric in the 50-amp sites was ok - voltage dropped to 109 in the peak late afternoon heat on both legs of my voltage meter. Marathon is an excellent jumping point to visit Big Bend Natl. Park. We have 2 dogs & did not want to risk losing power at the Natl Park campground (which is nothing other than a big asphalt parking lot). We camped at Marathon Motel and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Vaquero Village RV Park, Laredo, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We discovered Vaquero Village while Googling other places to drop anchor. Vaquero Village is about 20 miles north of Laredo on I-35 Exit 18. At Exit 18 also is a very nice TXTDOT Information & Visitor Center. The RV park is on US-83 about 2.4 miles west from the TXTDOT Info. Center. Large sign on US-83 easy to turn southwest onto their entrance drive which was gravel and somewhat bumpy. The office is straight ahead about 1/4 mile. The park office has a sign which also serves and their laundry mat/restroom building. All of the RV sites are LARGE concrete pads. 50/30/20 electric at all the pedestals. Drinking water tasted good and they have sewer at all of the sites. Sites nicely spaced apart from one another. Concrete site not long enough for a 45' coach - front tires had to be on gravel/dirt. OTA TV was 3 channels. We arrived on a hot South Texas April day with temps reaching 100 degrees and with all 4 roof A/C's going full tilt, the line voltage did not drop. That's good. Each electrical box also has your own campsite yard light attached. Sewer connection right next to water. 2 water spigots at every site. The owner is a very nice laid-back courteous gentleman who escorted our coach to our site. He said "Whenever you get all set-up and are ready to register, just ring the bell at the office". That's good service! We could hear a wee bit of highway traffic, but not enough to bother us. We camped at Vaquero Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Our reserv. was for a FHU site 30. Upon arrival, I noticed many tree branches in the driveway to the FHU sites hanging rather low. The limbs at site 30 were so low I asked if another site was available. The attendant did get us moved to site 29 which had no trees to contend with. All of the FHU sites are long and can accommodate any length RV. Strong voltage. Muci. ptable water. Our site had a large patio shelter with cement pad with picnic table. We did not use the restrooms, but looked inside and they had just been cleaned. In the exit driveway, again tree limbs were hanging well into driveway - told gate attendant that we will be exiting from the entrance. Asked when limbs will get trimmed - eyes rolled. We camped at Midway Park COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Note for the other 30-amp sites that closer to the lake. Some of the sites are double sized sites. These double sites have 2-20/30 amp electric posts & 2 water spigots. Very large double sites, some having a beautiful overlook of the lake. If we had not needed 50-amp electric ourselves, would have taken one of those beautiful double sized lakeview sites! Call Midway to find out the site numbers! Lots to do & explore in Waco - we use Tripadvisor to guide us!
