Myakka River State Park, Sarasota, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived on Thursday evening and departed Monday. Stayed in Palmetto Ridge, which has a number of pull thru sites. Unfortunately with the rain we've had this year the sites were saturated and with showers most afternoons the roads were covered (as were a number of sites). Traveling with our dog we were concerned with the possibility of snakes every time we opened the door for him to go out because of standing water in the palmettos all around our site. Because of the low land/wetness, sewers are raised making it difficult to have good drainage. The bugs were terrible, mosquitoes and sand fleas ate us up. Do not go during July when it's rainy and muggy. I don't believe the restrooms were cleaned while we were there as the shower floors were dirty and the drain was thick with hair. I've enjoyed many of Fl. State Parks but this one we will not revisit. We camped at Myakka River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Savannas Recreation Area and Campground, Fort Pierce, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Allow long or short time stays (great for construction or contract workers). Sewage at each site. Camping ring road was rough but it had been raining for some time before we got there (tropical storm while we were there). Great price and convenient location. We bought our camper to be able to visit our grandchildren in the area. Looking forward to spending more time here. We camped at Savannas Recreation Area and Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Kissimmee State Park, Lake Wales, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Love, love, love the quietness of Lake Kissimmee. We make an annual trip with our church every Spring. I look so forward to "down time" in the trees. Always wildlife of some type (deer, turkey, bunnies, armadillo, turtles, black snakes, gators). We camped at Lake Kissimmee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, Cordele, Georgia

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean and well maintained. Most, if not all sites in #3 are pull-through. Large sites. We reserved the Lakeside Pavilion for a family reunion and everyone enjoyed the facility (little overpriced) and closeness to restrooms and playground (large area for throwing frisbee, football). Great weekend! Hated leaving. Will definitely come back for longer stay (and try the golf course and train). We camped at Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park in a Tent.

Lake Griffin State Park, Fruitland Park, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2010 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The best thing about this park is their bathrooms, with strong overhead fans to help against the heat. Our site was at the bottom of a rocky incline, and it rained on 2nd day and washed us out. "Lake" Griffin. There is a canal to the lake within the park, but otherwise no view of the lake. It is a short drive from home but we won't return or recommend it. We camped at Lake Griffin State Park in a Tent.

Fort De Soto Campground, Tierra Verde, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2010 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

They need to do something about the racoon's! One ruined our trip chewing a hole in our tent while we sleeping. There is no reason the population can't be thinned out. We liked the seclusion of each site but could use some manicuring to make it easier to maneuver. The Rec room came in handy during afternoon storms (took books, games and drinks). We would definitely return if racoon's relocated. We camped at Fort De Soto Campground in a Tent.
