Camp America Campground, Salem, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in 10 different campgrounds from San Diego to Illinois and back to South Dakota on this trip. This campground was the best campground of the 10 places we stayed. Wi-Fi was the best we experienced. Long, level pull-throughs. Nice grass between sites, and trees provided lots of shade. This will become a regular stopover on our yearly travels to Illinois and back. We camped at Camp America Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Amarillo RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground, well organized. You must visit the gift shop. Would score this park high except that there was an overwhelming, horrid stockyard smell that woke me up in the middle of the night. It was cool enough to sleep with the windows open - bit mistake! Wi-Fi was also poor. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Lavaland RV Park, Grants, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

I understand that campground is under new management and improvements are in progress. The office was closed when we arrived at 4 PM. Selected our site. Filled out the available forms and enclosed a check in the envelop provided. Did not see a bathhouse. A few campers were overnighters but most were permanent residents. Close to I-40 but did not notice any highway noise. OK for an overnight stop. We camped at Lavaland RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, Santee, California

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

The rate is the 30 day rate as we stayed for a month from late June to late July. Excellent experience. Campground is very quiet with exception of the weekends but even then everything quiets down by 9 PM. Sites are sand but didn't present any problems as it doesn't rain here in the summer. Nice pool, laundry, and bathhouse. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake O'Neill FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Oceanside, California

Date of Stay: June, 2013 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoy staying at Lake O'Neill Campground during our frequent visits to Southern California to visit relatives. This time we stayed in a back-in site with cement pad that was level. Most pull-through sites are grass/dirt and not level. Utilities were all good. Verizon cell service seemed better this time for some reason. We camped at Lake O'Neill FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Cottonwood Campground (NPS Campground), Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: October, 2011 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

We camped at Cottowwood Campground in the South Unit. Campsites were large and well spaced but few were Big Rig friendly, as pull throughs were narrow and not very level. No fire rings - only elevated charcoal grates. The 36 mile drive was a beautiful, scenic experience. Loved the wild life. Bison frequently grazed their way through our campsite. Dry camping with flush toilets centrally located in the campground. Price was with Golden Age Pass. We would return. We camped at Cottonwood Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Greeted nicely by staff. Short, but wide pull-throughs. Great dog run. Excellent Wi-FI. Many permanent residents, but all sites were neat and clean. One of the better, reasonably priced KOAs that we have stayed in. Open year round. Would stay here again. We camped at Douglas KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice Forest Service campground. The lake is a short walk from the campsites. Long campsites, some closer together than others. Well marked Cross country ski trails next to campground made for excellent hiking trails. Forest Service Dump Station about 5 miles away near Burgess Junction. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Sibley Lake (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Shadehill Recreation Area, Shadehill, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2011 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice State Park Campground located 14 miles south of Lemmon, SD. Long, level, well-spaced sites. Most sites are back-in, only a few are pull through and these are small. Picnic table and fire ring at each site. Nice bathhouse with showers. Small, modern playground for kids. Vault toilers and water spigots are scattered throughout campground. Dump station available when departing. A few campers on weekdays but campground is full on weekends. Weekend reservations needed well in advance. Most campers also tow a boat. Large lake has good fishing and is excellent for water sports. We camped for a week and would return. We camped at Shadehill Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Robaix Lake, Deadwood, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2011 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

We paid $9.50 which was 1/2 off with the Golden Age Pass. Pets are an additional $2 each. We had a nice long, secluded site. It was a tricky back-in as there are huge trees bordering each site. Site was not very level side to side. This is a Forest Service Campground located about 13 miles south of Deadwood, SD on US 385. Dry camping, potable water available at non-threaded spigots. Vault toilets. Camphost and us were only people present during our mid-week camping. We would camp here again. We camped at Robaix Lake in a Fifth Wheel.
