Date of Stay:

Wilson's is a small full service park, directly off a busy interstate. It's not quiet or remote but it seemed clean and it's close to downtown Asheville. Not sure I'd choose to stay more than a day or two, but if we are needing to be in the heart of Asheville for some reason we'd stay again. When I say full service, we had water/electric/sewer/cable TV/internet, along with a picnic table. And the best part was we paid half price with our Passport America. There were no grills however so must have a stand alone or cook on stove. Can be quite noisy with sirens and traffic from the interstate, but still it has a relaxing atmosphere by the French Broad river. There was no trouble from the other campers although the neighborhood surrounding the place is a little ghetto.

This park was close to home for us in case things just sucked. They didn't. Really liked the park, and would stay again. You can hike trails, bike ride, and swim in the lake. The bathhouse was your average state park type bath house. Clean for the most part, but not 5 star or anything. Each site has picnic table, grill, and lantern pole. Down side is that it has no electricity, so we couldn't run a/c. On a really hot day this probably would suck. However when we stayed here the weather was very comfortable. The sites are very well shaded, so this helped keep things cooler. We were somewhat limited by not having electricity, but as dry camping goes this wasn't a terrible experience. They do allow generators but noise restrictions require they be turned off after 10pm. We camped next door to the camp host and they were very friendly and helpful.
