This is our 3rd time in this park, certainly much busier than our previous visits because it was Spring Break and the park was full. Unlike the old State Park, there are no limits of # of vehicles per site, so it was crowded and much too loud in the wee hours. Our last two times, it was very quiet, however. Wish there could have been some enforcement of quiet hours, and some attention to people driving way too fast through the campground where kids are playing and people are walking. My last wish for all parks in TX is recycling bins. I do recommend this park, the sites are much improved the last few years, plenty of wildlife, and judging by the smell of fried fish throughout the park, some fairly decent angling. We will be back.

This *could* be a great park. We were here for 10 days. There were very nice private park like sites available, but instead we were placed in our "premium" site, sardine-style, next to TWO abandoned trailers that are occupying two prime end-unit, lake view sites. By abandoned, I mean they are clearly unoccupied and have been so for a while judging by the flat tires and dilapidated condition. They belong in storage, or at least in the back 40, not blocking the view and crowding everyone. Very disappointing management decision. Wi-Fi is weak during busy times, but does work at the site, better at off hours and not super fast at any time. Laundry is very expensive (.25 for 4 minutes of dryer time). Nice location with two small lakes/ponds for swimming, fishing, and about 1 mile walking trail around each. Plenty of trash cans throughout park which is convenient. Clean, quiet place. Just bummed that we were parked in the full sun ghetto section when there were a bunch of nicer spaces available (and it is a heat wave). Wonder who they are saving the big, shady ones for, since we booked ages ago and we stayed almost two weeks at regular price (no discounts).

We would not stay here again. It is OK for a roadside park, or if you have been roughing it and need to do some laundry and have Wi-Fi/cable TV for a couple of days. Lots of long-term residents who frankly are bringing down the neighborhood. I would have skipped this place if I could do it over.

Several campers (including us) had their ice chests stolen from their site overnight during our stay here. Apparently this is common at this park--so lock up your cooler when you turn in for the night! No water at sites so fill up when you arrive--there is potable water at the sanitation station. Big rigs are no problem at the upper campground, where we stayed, but I would not want to try to get into the lower campground with one. Upper is much quieter, lower is busy--lots of families and tent campers. There is access to the lake from the lower campground, but it is an easy walk from the upper campground also. Convenient location for exploring Mackinac Island & Soo Locks Area. Out of state visitors will need a MI parks permit $29, but it gets you into all the state parks.

Nice state park. Recommend the TX parks pass for the discount. No Wi-Fi at sites, but works well near office if you need to get online. It is HOT HOT HOT from April to Oct and not all sites are shaded. Most sites are very large, offer privacy from neighbors. CG is patrolled by rangers, a good thing, but they will enforce park rules. They will also drive thru and advise of any bad weather coming thru--very helpful if you are not watching TV or listening to radio. We don't watch TV here, so don't know about reception. Decent phone signal but no MiFi. Clean restrooms, good hiking. Beware of mosquitoes, snakes, alligators. Nice observatory and nature center. Probably best visited in winter/spring. Avoid August and September in this part of TX due to hurricanes and generally miserable weather.

This is one of the best parks we have been to since we got our trailer last year. The sites are spacious, some are very private. Lots of trees and shade. Pet friendly, clean, well-kept park. We are looking forward to our next visit. The park is close driving distance to groceries, restaurants, diesel fuel, etc. Very convenient, but in a "nature" setting. We love it here!!
