Sonoma County Fair Grounds, Santa Rosa, California

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Gravel parking lot with hookups. They want excessive information on the form including insurance company and policy number. We just did a overnight, so I didn't see everything. We camped at Sonoma County Fair Grounds in a Motorhome.

Convict Lake Campground, Mammoth Lakes, California

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are fine, some are unlevel. ours was pretty good, #88. You can see the lake from our site, and probably from #2, and #3. There is very few trees to provide shade, and this is a no-hookup situation. Convict lake is within walking distance and it is stocked with trout during the year. We didn't catch any this time though. The lake was crowded on Saturday and Sunday, but Monday of Labor Day weekend was good and we did our boat fishing then. You are only 10 minutes or so from Mammoth Lakes area for supplies. There is a free dump station on the way in to the lake. We camped at Convict Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fish the lake, Drive the Mammoth/June Lake loop. Visit Devil's Post pile. Ride the gondola to the top of Mammoth. Lots of festivals in the summer at Mammoth lakes. The road from the highway to the campground was dirt when we visited, but it looked like they were in the middle of repaving it. It is probably paved by the time you get there.

Sac West RV Park and Campground, West Sacramento, California

Date of Stay: November, 2014 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed over Thanksgiving Week. It is a nice campground with level gravel sites. The 30 AMP row we were in had one electric post for every 2 sites, so you had a 50% chance of having to run your electric under your coach to the other site. The sites are pretty close together, but this is a more urban campground. Very nice for visiting Sacramento, Davis, and Gold Country. Large dog run area, large game room, tetherball for the kids. We camped at Sac West RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Safeway is not far for food, they do have a 24 Karat Grill, to provide hot food at the campground. Most of the RV sites are pull through.

San Diego RV Resort, La Mesa, California

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

This park is very close to the freeway. So close there is quite a bit of road noise. This is probably why they only allow RVs (no tents). It is also very near a San Diego Trolley stop (Green Line). You get a special key that gives you access to the bathrooms, pool, jacuzzi, and gate that goes to the trolley stop. The pool and jacuzzi were clean and very warm. My kids loved the pool. There is no playground. The sites seem to be mostly permanent residents. The folks are nice and the campground was clean and tidy. Our site (99) was a back-in level gravel pad for the RV with a concrete area next to it. No fire rings and no picnic table. The sites are quite close to each other. The location is very convenient for seeing the sites of San Diego. We camped at San Diego RV Resort in a Motorhome.

San Diego Metro KOA, Chula Vista, California

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice friendly park. They are doing some construction now, probably preparing for spring/summer. Our site was an end site and was very nice. They have Tengo Internet which is worthless. It is good that the mobile phone coverage is fine. Very convenient for all San Diego attractions. We liked the bike path that is nearby. We camped at San Diego Metro KOA in a Motorhome.

Banning Stagecoach KOA, Banning, California

Date of Stay: October, 2013 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Park is clean, relatively level. Sites are on gravel/dirt; access road is paved. We had a 30 amp back-in site. For our site (85) it seemed the table was on the wrong (hookup) side of the site. Our two young kids liked the playground. We didn't use the pool. Beware if you want to sleep before 9:30 PM on a Friday, the campground is next door to the local high school, and you can hear the football game until 9:30 PM. We camped here since it is near the Oak Glen apple farms that we toured. We camped at Banning Stagecoach KOA in a Motorhome.

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - Borrego Palm Canyon Campground, Borrego Springs, California

Date of Stay: April, 2013 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We were here April 26, and it was quite hot still. Unfortunately our Rooftop AC decided to fail too. Next year we will try to come in March when they said it is possible to get the wildflowers. The campground is great. Most sites are pull-throughs. Relatively flat too which makes for good bicycle riding for the kids. It said shaded sites are available, but I did not see any unless you count the palm trees. This is typical California High desert. You get a few bushes and cactus and maybe a few palm trees. The visitor center was nice, well done and air conditioned. We didn't get a chance to do any of the hikes. Next time.... We camped at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - Borrego Palm Canyon Campground in a Motorhome.

Lake Isabella KOA, Weldon, California

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

This is our second KOA, the first was the San Diego Metro one. This is much different. It is fairly small, only 60 sites. The roads and sites are all dirt/gravel. No grass. Be sure you bring your outdoor carpet. It would be better if they pave the roads and plant grass, but I suppose that would be a lot of irrigation. The kids liked the pool and splash zone and playground. They had movie night on Saturday, free ice cream one night and free pancake breakfast on Labor Day. It is a fairly old campground so the shade trees are fully grown and serving their purpose well. We had site 12, behind the camp store and the trees were so good I really didn't need my awning. Overall a good campground, just be prepared for the dust. Only 30 amps at our site. No cable hookup in site. We camped at Lake Isabella KOA in a Motorhome.

Holloway's Marina & RV Park, Big Bear Lake, California

Date of Stay: June, 2011 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Nice RV park. We were on a non-waterfront site. It was quite small. Not enough room to put out our awning. The waterfront sites look much better. Note however, you cannot swim in the lake at the park. You cannot launch or beach a boat from your site at the park if you have a waterfront site. They have rules against bicycling by kids, but everyone does it anyway. If you are using a site, they give you 10% off marina services (boat rentals, etc). No fire pits at the sites. We couldn't have a fire anyway due to the red alert fire danger. If I went back I would try to get a waterfront site, but the temptation of the water and not being able to swim would probably be too much for the kids. Also Wi-Fi showed as three bars, but we were not able to connect to it. I didn't investigate the issue with the office because we didn't need it. We were in site 38. Not far from the office. We camped at Holloway's Marina & RV Park in a Motorhome.
