Sleepy Hollow RV Park, Willits, California

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here primarily because it was inexpensive, but other than a safe, fairly quiet place to stay, there is nothing here. The owner is very nice, and there is a cute pond next to our site filled with friendly, quacking ducks. There was 30 amp and a pullthrough and sewer, but no tv stations on the antenna. Wifi was very poor, kept dropping us and it took a long time to get a satellite due to all the trees, but we did get it. The pond was pretty, but the frogs and ducks were loud in the night. We were parked on the highest site next to the pond, and it looked as though it hadn't been mowed or weedeated all year. Our site was also very wet and "poopy" from the ducks. I think the pond must leak because it was quite wet. It was not too bad getting in or out, but as someone else said, you have to look for the sign. Our GPS did take us right to the park. We camped at Sleepy Hollow RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Casa De Fruta RV Orchard Resort, Hollister, California

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

The park is very nice. 30 or 50 amp service, decent water pressure most times, free cable and WiFi, swimming pool (not heated) and lots to see and do. This is a huge complex, restaurants, stores (fruit and produce store is very expensive), gas station, and more. There is a train ride and a 2 story carousel too. The sites are all asphalt, but fairly level and nice landscaping in the park. We also appreciated that they honor Passport America Sunday-Thursday. We camped at Casa De Fruta RV Orchard Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

First things first. If you're coming from the south and your GPS tells you to go on Hwy 25 "Airport Hwy"...DON'T! It's a steep, narrow, 2 lane road that takes you past Pinnacle National Park. Stay on 101.

Go to the restaurant at the four corners..can't remember the name, but their tri-tip sandwich is the most tender I've ever eaten. Also, we rode the Harley around the area and found there were a lot of fruit and produce stands with excellent prices....10 avacados for $1.00, asparagus for $1 a bunch, etc. The restaurant at the Casa de Fruta complex was pretty good. Look for the 2-story carousel...absolutely beautiful and take a train ride. Hollister was cute, but no Walmart until Gilroy.

Elks Lodge #2733 , Atascadero, California

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small, members only, place to park your RV while visiting the area. It does have 50 amp electric, sewer, good water and good wifi (free). I thought the price was a little high for an Elks park, but it was conveniently situation. A little noisy as it is next to the 101 in California, but not too bad...no trains that I heard. Fairly close to Morro Bay, and worth the trip. All backins, but wide enough. We camped at Elks Lodge #2733 in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Confusing about the parking. Our fifth wheel is 40 feet long so the back-in wasn't long enough to park the truck in front, but there was room to park it. While there, you really have to drive to Morro Bay! It's so beautiful there...that ROCK is what makes the area. We drove up US 1 for a ways, maybe 20 miles, then turned back inland because there were signs that it was closed ahead due to the recent rockslide or mudslide...forgot which.

Elks Lodge #1625 (Members Only), Lancaster, California

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a gravel parking lot, but it did have 30 amp electric and good water pressure. It said there was wifi, but none showed up at our site. The people were very friendly in the lodge, but other than a place to park, it was noisy (lots of trains in the night) and abuts next to an apartment complex were people were throwing firecrackers in the lot and lots of trash just being thrown near their dumpsters. There were no sewer hookups, but a convenient dump station. A satisfactory place to park, but nothing fancy. We camped at Elks Lodge #1625 (Members Only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Glen Ivy RV Park, Corona, California

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Based on previous reviews we almost didn't come here...but I am so glad we did! I really like this park, and the people that work here are great, especially the girl in the office. We had 30 amp service which was fine, great water pressure and good tasting water, a back in that wasn't very long (our rv is 40' long) but it was very wide and comfortable. There is one section of the park that has a lot of older rv's, and it's true that there is stuff outside them, but the people are very nice, the children were well behaved and we didn't care that they weren't all nice and new. It was fairly quiet and the 3 pools were all clean and nice. There is a lot for kids to do, basketball court, playground and the nice pools. The laundry facility had decent equipment and was $1.25 for a regular load and 75 cents for 45 minutes of dryer time. This park required an inspection of our rv and proof of insurance for not only the tow vehicle but the rv itself, which I thought was a little strange, but not a problem. There is security at night and probably during the day, as we saw security guards often. The surroundings are nice..directly behind the RV resort is Glen Ivy Hot Springs which was beautiful! The area around is also beautiful, and don't miss Toms Farms just a short distance down the road. We only planned on staying 2 nights and liked it so well that we stayed another day. Don't be afraid to come here based on other reviews. We're retired car and rv dealers and we really enjoyed ourselves. The new owners are doing a good job keeping this place up. The interior roads are paved with speed bumps and the sites are mostly dirt, but fine and nearly level. We camped at Glen Ivy RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Indian Wells RV Resort, Indio, California

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent water pressure, good free wifi, cable TV and 3 nice pools and spas. We were in a pull through between 2 park models, but it was across the street from one of the pools and spas and the laundry. The landscaping was pretty and it was nice and quiet at night. As you pull in there are two older motor homes directly in your face, but other than that, I really liked this park. Their summer rates had just taken effect and it was only $22 a night and then she took the 10% Good Sam discount off that price The pools weren't as fancy as some RV resorts we've been in recently, but they were very clean and nice and there were plenty of chairs and chaises around to use, as well as tables with umbrellas. Close to La Quinta and easy to get to Palm Springs on 111. I enjoyed seeing all their date palms from the RV, and the beautiful mountains in the background. We camped at Indian Wells RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

You should go to Palm Springs and ride the aerial tram ($23.95 senior rate) and then to Shields Dates. We had stopped at a visitor center in Palm Springs and picked up a coupon for a buy one get one free date shake (They cost $5.95 each). The brochure had the coupon and it said it expired in 2010 but they had no problem honoring it. The movie about raising dates was very interesting, and free. We ate at Applebees in town and it was very good. We also enjoyed date shakes at Shields Dates around the corner.

Monte Vista RV Resort, Mesa, Arizona

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

First off, I wouldn't consider this an RV park, it's more a park model resort that allows an occasional RV to join them. We parked between 2 park models in a back-in. There are no pull throughs in this resort. It was 116 in the sun, so all we did was unhook and go to the pool...twice in the pool, which was absolutely beautiful. There are two pools and a beautiful hot tub with waterfalls. The grounds around the pool were beautiful! Water pressure was great, 50 amp service and no cable, but we got 75 channels on the antenna. We arrived on a Sunday and the office wasn't open but security told us a site to go to and said we could check-in (and out) in the morning. The office opened promptly and was very quick to process us. The rates had gone down June 1st, so with Passport America we got a rate of $23 plus resort fee and taxes, totaling $30.78. There were no trees at our site and all it was was gravel and not the easiest spot to back in to because of a post. We camped at Monte Vista RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Voyager Resort & RV Park (55+ park), Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

The only thing we did not like about this park is the closeness to your neighbors. The pull-through sites were lengthy, but the RV next to us pulled in late at night, and in the morning we looked out our window and their slideout was only inches from our slideout...windows were facing each other. On the other side though, that person pulled up and it was fine because he was well away from us. The water and 50 amp electric was good, sewer hookup was in a good location. There are about 1600 sites in this park, which are mostly park models and homes, but where we were directed was called "the gravel pit" with no trees or landscaping. There were hundreds of vacancies, yet they bunched us together as I said, which I thought was ridiculous. There is a lot to do and the people were very friendly. The 3 pools and 2 spas were great, with one pool being reserved for adults during most hours. One pool is covered. One of the spas is also covered. There is a small bar and grill and store on the premises, and the happy hour was nice. The rates had just gone down for the summer, so even its the resort fee and all the extra taxes for pool, etc., it still came to $26 a night. Very hot when we were there, but with the 50 amp service we were able to run both air conditioners. We camped at Voyager Resort & RV Park (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Sunny Acres RV Park (55+ park), Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We were visiting a friend in Las Cruces and glad we found this nice park. It's very clean and nicely laid out, with wide gravel roads and nice landscaping. The water pressure and wifi were good (too much chlorine in the water though). Sites were wide enough. Laundry and sitting room were very clean. There is a train nearby, but only heard it once in the middle of the night. The park would have rated higher if there had been a pool and if there wasn't a noisy tree cutter working immediately behind our RV for two days. It is in a nice location in Las Cruces, in the middle of town but easy to get around. TV cable got lots of channels. We camped at Sunny Acres RV Park (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Sierra Hermosa RV Park, Questa, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 3 nights because there was a bike rally in Red River, 12 miles away. They are a Passport America park, but we couldn't use that because it was a holiday weekend. The site was almost level, water pressure and taste was good, Wifi was free and pretty good. We had 50 amp and our site wasn't a pullthrough, but we were able to use it as such because there was no one in the site behind us and the manager told us just to pull through. Verizon wireless was ok, not great, and DirecTV came in good. The park is all gravel and dirt, but nicely done. There is a small stream with a bridge over it to the dumpster, and good views of tall mountains from our RV. We were pretty close to the edge of the road, but even with a bike rally, it was still pretty quiet. The owner/manager was very nice and came to make sure everything was good a couple of times. Even though it is all dirt and gravel, they have done a lot with rock gardens around the trees and a pretty 3-tiered large rock garden near the center of the park. There are fire pits every so often and a pond. We have stayed on the Enchanted Circle of New Mexico before, and I liked Questa for towing a big 5th wheel better than Angel Fire or Eagle Nest...the roads were easier to maneuver. We camped at Sierra Hermosa RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We ate at Pats Cafe in Questa one day and the food was pretty good. There aren't a lot of restaurants in Questa. There is a lot to do in Red River and Eagle Nest and Angel Fire. We ate at Zebs in Angel Fire and liked the place.

Woods and River RV Park & Campground, Del Norte, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 3 nights using PPA, which was great. Pull through was level, water pressure and taste was good, wifi iffy from our site, but free. This is a smaller rv park with mostly long term residents, but very quiet. They are expanding the park next to the beautiful Rio Grande River and have built 2 gazebos on the rivers edge. This will probably be a pretty nice size park in the near future. You do have to go about a mile on a gravel road to get here, but other than that, it's not bad. Interior roads are dirt or grass. Manager lady was very pleasant. DirecTV satellite was good. Nice picnic table at each site. We camped at Woods and River RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We ride a motorcycle, so we rode to Wolf Creek Pass and into Pagosa Springs for the most beautiful ride, 59 miles from the campground. The next day we rode the bike to Great Sand Dunes National Park, about 70 miles away. It was an extremely windy ride with about 25-30 mph winds, but worth the trip. On the way back we stopped at Three Beers Brewery close to the RV Park for the best brick-oven wood fired pizza in a long time...and reasonably priced.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 3 days, the first at full price, $42 using 30 amp. The next two were supposed to be Passport America, $21 plus tax, but we were charged $25 plus tax. I don't know why they didn't honor the half price? Anyways, I really like this campground! Their location is perfect and the owners have gone to great effort to make this place very cool...lots of antique RV's and automobiles to make this like a theme park...lots to look at. We had good water pressure, good free wifi and a nice, wide lot. Loved the happy hour on the front porch each night at 4. Direct TV worked well, except it was 20 degrees off on the pointing of the dish. There is a lot to do in this area, and it is beautiful! Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park! Lots of trees, but the sites were easy to get in and out of and easy to level. We disconnected to drive around this gorgeous area. The laundry facilities were spotless and reasonable- $1.75 for 30 min wash and $1.00 for 45 min. Dryer. The staff here is so friendly and helpful. We had a big snowstorm while here, so decided to stay a 3rd night, which was allowed with Passport America. The park is very clean, well lit, nicely landscaped and quiet, other than the snow falling off the tree branches onto our RV. Nice picnic table, but was more for building a snowman on than using this week! I would definitely stay here again. We were able to get several channels over the antenna. Hookups were good and water tasted good. We camped at Diamond Campground and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Wow is my first thought! This is the most beautiful state park we hav ever been in. There was no water at our site, but there are lots of water spigots scattered in the park, and the map they give you shows their locations. We had good 50 amp service, but only got 3-4 tv channels on antenna and couldn't hookup our DirecTV receiver. Might have been because it was very overcast. The park is easy to get around in (with map) and has a lot to do.The paved, pullthrough site was fairly level and electric was on the corrrect side. It was VERY WINDY though. The views were incredible...snow capped mountains and beautiful, natural scrubs and birds. There were a lot of other campers in our loop D, but the sites are so spacious you feel like you're all alone. I would highly recommend this park, just wish they gave some kind of discount to people who weren't from Colorado. Office staff was very friendly and helpful, and told us if we saw a site other than the one they assigned, just call them and take that site (if it wasn't reserved). We liked the one they assigned. Walnut RV Park, Vega, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is just a place to park for the night....basic services, and there was no wifi network showing up even though the owner gave me the password. We had to pay $3 extra because we were "big" (40 ft) according to the owner. He assigned us #5, but we chose a different site because we would have been facing the sun. I suspect he gave us #5 because there was probably wifi there...but we didn't see any extender antennas anywhere. This is a fairly small rv park, grass sites, but they were level. There was 50 amp service, good water pressure and sewer, so we had all we needed...nothing more. It was extremely windy when we were here, but I noticed he had planted a row of trees to block some of the wind. Owner was pleasant enough. I would only come back if there was no place better to be. It was easy to get here off of the highway. We told the owner we would like a site in the middle of the park, and he told us he didn't want us to park there because "people always run over his stuff"??? The park is pretty neat and no trash around. We camped at Walnut RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
