Lake Shawnee Campgrounds, Topeka, Kansas

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Love this park! The only reason I didn't score it a "10" is because I only give that rating to parks with paved sites with full hookups. (The sites here are gravel, and there's no sewer connection.)

It's in a lovely setting, quiet, and close to Topeka amenities.

We will definitely stay here again given the chance. We camped at Lake Shawnee Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

In addition to lake activities, Lake Shawnee offers a wonderful paved path - about 7 miles long - to walk or bike. There's also a great golf course.

Recreation Plantation RV Resort (55+ park), Lady Lake, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the park for two nights. The park is mostly park models and RVs in long-term sites. Overnight sites are grouped together in a nice, shady area - very clean and quiet. We will definitely stay here again. We camped at Recreation Plantation RV Resort (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The park was running a special for first-time guests: book 2+ nights and get the first night for free. That brought our average cost to $25/night. Be sure to ask about this when you make your reservation.

Trailer Ranch RV Park (55+ Park), Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a clean, quiet, well-maintained park with level sites. The woman who helped us back in to our site (all sites are back-in, and no one is allowed to park without an escort) made parking very easy. There is a mobile home section that is in great shape. It appears the park owners require trailer residents to keep their units up, which makes a big difference in terms of the general condition of the park. Be sure to take advantage of the city bus that stops right outside the park walls. Day passes are $2 ($1 for 65+), and the bus drops you off right in old Santa Fe. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Trailer Ranch RV Park (55+ Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tucumcari KOA, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is older, well-maintained and quiet. Sites are level and in good shape. We found this to be a very pleasant place to stay with nice owners, clean facilities, and conveniently located to the interstate and town. The owners offer a limited breakfast and dinner menu. We had breakfast and were really pleased with our meal. The rate reflects KOA discount for kamp card and two-night stay. We would stay here again. We camped at Tucumcari KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Deer Creek Valley RV Park, Topeka, Kansas

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Rate based on monthly stay and includes actual electricity charge. This is a terrific park - clean, well-maintained facilities with excellent management. Sites are concrete and level. The location's good, with easy access to California Ave and nearby Lake Shawnee and to I-70 (for trips to downtown Topeka and the Wanamaker shopping corridor). If you're a BBQ aficionado, be sure to check out Lonnie's BBQ (just outside the park's security gate). We will definitely stay here again. We camped at Deer Creek Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Elk City / Clinton KOA, Canute, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects KOA discount card and includes tax. This is a clean, well-maintained park right on Historic Route 66 with easy access to the nearby town. Our site was level. Although there were large trees nearby, those are trimmed back so we had no problems with clearance. There are two enclosed dog areas. Although the interstate noise is noticeable during the day. It dies way down at night so wasn't a problem. We would definitely stay there again. We camped at Elk City / Clinton KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Rainbow's End - Escapees Rainbow Park, Livingston, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is based on Escapees' "stay and play" rate and includes electricity for our 20 nights there. This is a great park - friendly staff, good selection of planned activities, nice facilities. We will definitely stay there again. I lowered my rating a bit for two reasons. First, the campground's Internet service. It's through Tengo Internet, which in Spanish means "I have Internet" but is really more like NO tengo Internet (slow, unreliable connection). Definitely not worth purchasing if you can avoid it. Second, park rules prohibit the use of washing machines because of the septic system. We had to pay to use the park's laundry. A bit inconvenient if you're a full-timer who is used to doing laundry in your rig. We camped at Rainbow's End - Escapees Rainbow Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Goose Island State Park, Rockport, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This is a terrific park - clean, quiet and our site was right next to the bay. And all for just $22/night (plus a $5/person/day entrance fee). Be sure to take advantage of the scheduled activities. We went on one of the morning shore bird walks and really enjoyed it. Ask whether you might save on fees by purchasing a TX state parks annual pass. We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Greentree Village North Travel Park, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

This park's greatest asset is its friendly, helpful staff. It's greatest weakness, which cost it a point in my rating, is the condition of older sections of the mobile home area. Some of those units are a bit run-down and in need of some cleanup. I also deducted a point because of the park's dog policy. There is no restriction on dog breeds, and our dog - as well as those of other guests with whom I spoke - had problems with "bully breed" dogs whose owners aren't able to control them. Despite the above, we would definitely stay there again. We camped at Greentree Village North Travel Park in a Fifth Wheel.
