We really liked this campground; the water was good, there were plenty of small trees scattered throughout, and nice green grass and good-sized sites for a coastal campground. They had a little apartment complex of well-inhabited martin houses right in the center of the campground and visible from our rig, which seemed to help on the bug front and made the cats very happy indeed when we opened the blinds on the back window. The only downside is that it’s land-locked, so you have to drive to the beach access lots at the national seashore (two miles in either direction on the main road.) Rate is Passport America rate.

A lovely campground with pretty much nothing around. They provide a page of local directions to shopping and so forth which was very useful to us. OBX is an hour away, provided you don't make the mistake we did and try to go on Saturday when shore rentals change over and gridlock is extreme. They insisted on helping us back into our site, but I can understand why. The sites are huge but the actual parking pads are very narrow, edged by a concrete patio on one side and landscape ties on the other. The helper was really nice about it and actually helpful, which was good. In general the staff was friendly and helpful. Sites ring a large pond/small lake, and are half back in and half pull in (utility area with separate power and water for each rig between each pair of campsites) so everyone has a good view through their large window, whether motorhome or towable. Short-term campers on one side of the lake, longer term on the other. Small swimming pool recently installed was very welcome in the heat. Landscaping touches at each site are attractive, place is very clean. Verizon aircard service ok. Definitely an A+ stopover on the way to or from OBX.

Very friendly staff, we asked if we could park outside the gate and walk in for late night return (evening out with friends) and they said sure, suggested we park just inside gates and get friends to pick us up. Made sure we knew emergency number if needed. Gates lock at 9 pm in summer, unlock at 8 am. Pretty campground with large, private, shaded sites. Sites are fairly level side to side, most are quite long but on some slope front to back limits usable area. Verizon internet is 4G and steady. Shower water heated by passive solar, one temp fits all pushbutton showers.
