Date of Stay:

We stayed here during the very busy tourist season. The campsites were fine. Laid out in rows, but not too tight, so that was good. There is a lot of red dirt, but that's Monument Valley. Our only disappointment was that it was in a canyon and there were only a few sites (mostly the tents sites) that had a view down the canyon of the monuments. I had heard about the wonderful views from the hotel, but hotel is outside the canyon, and Monument Valley is all about the view. I think the only good thing about it is that if bad weather came up with some very strong winds, the campsites would be protected there. Otherwise, there is not much choice in campgrounds that have full-hookups in this area. So besides that lack of view, it was a good place to stay.

Date of Stay:

As others have stated, this campground is made up of two sections. The north section, closest to the office, is an older section. The south section is very new and has concrete pads (instead of gravel) and very nicely landscaped, with a pool and hot tub. We chose to stay in the south-side newer section. We had been traveling for several weeks and was ready for a little bit of a finer looking site and we read that a lot of other campgrounds were full of the Moab red dust. So the concrete was a nice change. It kept everything cleaner. While we were in Moab, we checked out some of the other campgrounds. We noticed that several had so much tree cover, that you couldn't see any of the view. Portal had a nice view of the red rock mountains. View is a priority to us. We loved sitting on the patio looking at the pretty Moab landscape. Some said that it was pricey but we checked several other parks and they had the same going rate. We loved it there and would definitely go back the next time we are in Moab.
