Rock Hound State Park, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $4.00
Overall Rating:

Small New Mexico State Park - incredible mountain views, easy access from Deming, NM. 5 no-hook up sites, 23 water & electric, + a group site; some on the reservation system, some first come first serve. All full when we arrived mid-March on a Sunday. Luckily their host site was empty, due to a "host emergency" and a park employee let us know it was available. All sites are big & roomy with covered concrete patios. Small but nice & informative visitor center. If you hike or collect rocks - great stop! New Mexico state parks are still a value at full rate of $14, for w/e sites. Bathhouse looks almost brand new, includes showers. We camped at Rock Hound State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Fun day trip 30 miles south to Columbus; great lunch at Patio Cafe; drove thru Pancho Villa State Park (right in town) - plenty of open sites- right on the US/Mexico border, but felt very secure. Spanish Stirrup Rock Shop - just 1/2 mile before Rockhound SP entrance - great stop for rock diggers & collectors.

Rose Valley RV Ranch, Silver City, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

My price does include tax, (tired & not paying attention at check-in so guessing our AARP discounted rate was around $27). We camped in a tiny FunFinder trailer & truly enjoyed our site across from the laundry/restroom facilities. Bathrooms are family style - shower, sink & toilet with combination locks, very clean & (I think) fairly new. Our sight was an easy back-in for our size; graveled, very level; rustic privacy fence; lots of juniper trees. Check-in staff was 1st rate. Location was just far enough off main Hwy 180 (4 lane) quiet, but easy access. Ranch very convenient for groceries, fuel, etc, not far from historic down town. Silver City's RV Park location signs are wonderful, blue with white letters, easy to spot, get you ready for your turns. We camped at Rose Valley RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Prices in Silver City, fuel/food, are very reasonable. Wranglers Bar & Grill across the highway was a good lunch (with beer & wine). Easy availability middle of March, comfortable night in the 40's.

Tucson / Lazydays KOA, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Factory camping at it's finest; fastest check-in in the West (you'll never remember anything - she talked so fast); wifi code at check-in is a joke, was never able to access, called their 800 help line and was never called back, just way too many people trying to use it; if you are there for Lazy Days service - location great, not difficult to get to (3 turns from the interstate) tho rush hours might be hairy; we had planned a 2 or 3 nite stay, but were able to escape early the first morning. This is a huge park, jam packed in Jan/Feb, incredibly designed & maintained, restaurant on property, just bring your own wifi and wallet. I cannot justify the price for the product. We camped at Tucson / Lazydays KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Ajo Heights RV Park, Ajo, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Very, very helpful on the phone for these "wayfaring strangers". Park landscaping is amazing, wonderfully designed and maintained - full of birds, too! Our site was front row on street, a bit of road noise but once we closed up for a cool February evening, no problem sleeping. Stayed 2 nights; great shower in the a.m. (we camped in a 14 ft. FunFinder, so park bathhouse was much appreciated); spur of the moment trip to rendezvous with family; host very helpful. Call ahead in Jan. & Feb. this part of AZ is full! We camped at Ajo Heights RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Located right across the 2-lane road, from local grocery (IGA) & large Chevron for fuel. Downtown plaza area interesting. Large retired copper mine, just south of town - we did not go see - looks interesting.
