Lightner Creek Campground, Durango, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Very quiet and isolated site. Not more than 5 min from Durango. Behind a ridge in a valley which means the sun is not baking directly in the windows and you don't hear noise from town. The wifi was weak and I got weak signal on my Verizon wifi box but that is not why we go camping. If you need wifi stay at the Koa in town. Plenty of trees and a fantastic pool for the kids. Will stay here again. No fire rings but you can rent one of those fire in can things or bring your own. We camped at Lightner Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Country Village RV Resort, Montrose, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2013 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

This CG is now a Jellystone Park campground. Clean facilities and well laid out. Close proximity to Montrose. The hosts went out of their way to include our children in camp activities (hay rides, nature walks, crafts, etc. Very nice people for sure. Clean laundry facilities, showers, and bathrooms. Game room was more my speed- pool tables, ping pong, shuffleboard (not a bunch of video games) kept the kids busy. The pull through sites are easy to get in and out of. Most of the trees are fairly young and will take a few years to provide large amounts of shade. Most of the sites are wide open which was ok. It seems like new ownership and they are working hard (and doing a good job) of keeping the place up. Nice clean playground with picnic areas. Unfortunately a fire ban was in effect so no campfires, but they do have community set ups for it. My only gripe was the pool water temp. I presume it was early enough in the season and they had not gotten the system up and running at full speed. Water temps were 68-69*F. Rather chilly by my standards, but the kids still put up with it. Plenty of things to see in the surrounding mountains, kept us busy for a week. Would come here again. We camped at Country Village RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park of Estes, Estes Park, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2011 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Clean park with many things to keep you busy. Great for the kids: large playground, horseshoe pit, game room, etc. Clean bathrooms and pool. Staff very friendly and campsite just outside of Estes Park. Stayed here twice this summer and will go back next year. Cabins are available if you don't have an RV. Liked this place due to cleanliness and close proximity to Denver (easy drive). We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park of Estes in a Travel Trailer.

Royal View Camp Resort, Canon City, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2011 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean and plenty of things to do. Close to the Royal Gorge and Canon City. Read several of the reviews of the hosts being rude but did not have that experience. Did see them get angry at other people, but that was for not following the rules (diving in a shallow pool). If you feel the need to speed though the campground or disregard the safety rules clearly posted at the pool, you should probably stay somewhere else as you will get put in your place. As mentioned before, they strictly enforced 5mph speed limit; keeps the kids safe and the dust down. Will camp there again. We camped at Royal View Camp Resort in a Travel Trailer.
