Lake Chicot State Park, Lake Village, Arkansas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We are well seasoned travelers to the Arkansas State Parks. We have visited 44 of the 52 parks, and we have RV camped in all but 3 that have campgrounds. So when we invited friends to have their first AR State Park camping experience with us at Lake Chicot State Park we thought they were in for a treat. How sadly mistaken and embarrassed we were. First the encounter at check-in was unpleasant. A park ranger in the visitor center was helpful after seeing the woman working the desk seemed all but irritated we were there interrupting her day. I ran across one other friendly park employee who was not a ranger...and that was it. Then we headed to our site. The roads in this park are abysmal compared to other AR State Parks. The sewer connection was at least 8" ABOVE ground level. We paid extra for the convenience of a sewer connection for that? I assure you we found no pleasure in working our sewer hose up and down to work our waste UP the grade to dump it. I honestly thought, perhaps, the park was getting set to close down for a complete overhaul. But not so. It is simply horribly maintained. The condition of the dock and rental watercraft was terrible. Another thing that would have been nice would have been had the unfriendly people at the visitor center check-in warn us of the utter infiltration of fire ant colonies all throughout the park. Not that they have the ability to eradicate the fire ants, but a warning that every site, the fields, trails, and all along the road are infested with fire ants would have been nice. I pity the person who comes in after dark to hook up his RV and he or his dog stumble across one of these many mounds. In summary this is the absolutely worst Arkansas State Park experience we have ever had. We had high hopes here, but they failed at every turn. Considering I have NEVER given an Arkansas State Park a negative review of any kind, I can state for certain we will not be returning to this park. Too bad...the lake was very enjoyable for kayaking and fishing. Avoid this park. The Arkansas State Park system has far too many other fine parks with beautiful, well-maintained grounds. We camped at Lake Chicot State Park in a Motorhome.

Forsyth KOA, Forsyth, Georgia

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

They have recently repaved all the roads in the kampground. There are some tight turns for inexpereinced drivers of big rigs or large TTs, but overall it is easy to navigate. A few signs would help, though. Road noise at front of the campground is no issue with AC running. Without the AC it's no more than white noise. Nice fishing pond and overall well kept grounds. They staff are all wonderful...friendly and helpful. The bath houses/restrooms are dated, but looked to be in good repair and fairly clean. Warm freshly baked cookies are delivered to your door after you are set up. And pizza delivery from the store to your door is so convenient. We will be staying here again traveling to Florida and back. We camped at Forsyth KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to follow the signs to the campground from the interstate. Seems like it's taking you the long way, but the reason is so the entrance does not get blocked. They can easily stage a few rigs when the signs are followed.

Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA, Washington, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Lot of complaints about the road to the campground. It's western PA...there will be hills. Site was fairly level, but had to share a water spigot with the neighbor...every other site has water. And the dump was uphill from our site. I never understand how anyone thinks that will work well. Sites are very close together. One TT had awning out, and it went over part of the road. Maintenance here seems hit or miss. When we arrived the office was closed. They close 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM every day. We found our space and set up. Headed into the city. Office closed when we returned and when we left the next day. Never saw a soul who worked there. Seems to be a fair number of permanent residents here. I rarely have security concerns at campgrounds, but when we left for the city I double checked all locks. And I was concerned for our dogs. It was hot, and I worried about the power as the outlets were in disrepair. Wife said we are not staying there next time in Pittsburgh. Grounds need a lot of maintenance. We camped at Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA in a Motorhome.

Louisville South KOA, Shepherdsville, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped for a night on the way to PA. I wish we had planned more time here. We checked in right at 1:00 PM. The hosts were wonderful. Lots of walking trails for us and the dogs. There is a nice pool. The dogs had fun in Kamp K-9. Once the place filled up more and kids poured out of RVs the playground and ground bounce were full. They all seemed to be having a great time. We went to the complimentary s'mores social that evening, and lots of activities were scheduled for the next day. Too bad we had to leave early the next morning. This is a great place to base for exploring the Bourbon Trail and local museums. Or just stay right there. They make it a fun place to be. Restrooms /showers were a bit dated but clean. We camped at Louisville South KOA in a Motorhome.

Crossville / I-40 KOA , Crossville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful grounds and very friendly and helpful attendants. Only stayed overnight so we did not get a chance to really get a feel for the whole place. We had a concrete site, but it was not particularly level. No big issue with auto levelers, though, I suppose. Well maintained place. We camped at Crossville / I-40 KOA in a Motorhome.

America's Best Campground, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

You know what to expect as soon as you pull in to register. Easy entrance and lots of room for multiple units to stop and get checked in. Escort right to your site by staff. Staff onsite at all times. This is a very clean, well-kept, and professionally managed RV resort with courteous staff. Large bath/shower rooms closed for 2 hours each day for cleaning. Daily trash collection at your site. Nice store for those things you may have forgotten or some very cute souvenirs. Clean and roomy pool and a nice hot tub as well. Grounds are well kept and mowed with many tree-shaded sites. A car wash area large enough for big rigs. Not a big Branson fan, myself, but the next time a group of friends is heading up there I would be happy to stay here again. Not the most level sites, but certainly not too bad. Wifi was strong. We camped at America's Best Campground in a Motorhome.

Coastal Georgia RV Resort, Brunswick, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2011 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent a few days here the last week of October working our way toward Disney world. We really cannot speak to the amenities at this park, although everything seemed really nice. This is a really nice and fairly new park. All concrete pads with lovely shrubbery between the spaces and nice small lawn areas for each space. Nice decorative hydrant/power poles for the spaces. Lots of pull throughs for big rigs. We had a nice lakeside back-in spot. The people in the office were very friendly on the phone prior to our arrival and while we were there. A nice store at the office also. This park was so very clean and well kept. The pool was closed for the season when we arrived, but it looked quite nice. Nice pavilions by the lake, and you could rent a paddle boat for the lake. Never had need for the rest rooms or showers. We actually only spent the evenings here as we used it for a base for exploring all the cool local history. But we would certainly stop here again when in the area. So much more to do nearby than we realized before arrival. Worth another trip out. We camped at Coastal Georgia RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Mount Magazine State Park, Paris, Arkansas

Date of Stay: September, 2011 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is our favorite park in Arkansas. Absolutely beautiful place everywhere you go. The CG is in the woods, so no views from your site. But a short walk down a trail from the CG and you are at one of the most scenic vistas on the mountain. Miles and miles of hiking trails all over this park from easy to strenuous. ATV and horse trails also available. Stunning views from all over the mountain. Awesome visitor center with friendly and knowledgeable staff. And if you're in the mood for a nice dinner the lodge in the park is exceptional. Lakes nearby also. Just love camping here. The spaces are easily leveled, and the power is steady. Black bears in the area so be smart and maybe you will be lucky to experience a sighting. We camped at Mount Magazine State Park in a Travel Trailer.
